This is a sub-page of Proto:Jurassic Park: Trespasser/Build 96.

Jungle Road is a bit different in the final. There are numerous things that ended up cut or disabled in the final. Most notably, shooting off parts of the Plantation House. (Though a few of the shootable parts can still be shot off in the final, others were disabled.) The "Hidden Valley" isn't so "Hidden" in Build 96 either. In addition, various textures and other objects are cut from the final.

Placeholder Loading Screen

This loading screen is a placeholder. Apparently they didn't have a proper loading screen set up even a month before release.

Following the Monorail Tracks

Voice-Over Repeat

A forest this wild, this unknown, has not been seen by any human since the great hunters of the early Pliocene.

A Hammond voice-over from the last level plays in this spot. It was removed in the final. However the version from the Beach was left in the final.

Missing Echos

A couple of Hammond voice-overs which also play in the final are missing their echos in the prototype.

Dinosaur Tooth

This tooth is about as useful for melee as using a small twig.

This dinosaur tooth here is mentioned in the official Trespasser Strategy Guide as a melee weapon. However, it was removed from the final version making some people reading the guide scratch their heads in confusion. This isn't the only place the Strategy Guide mentions something removed from the final either. As for the tooth itself, it's not a great melee weapon.

The Lindstradt Gun

This Lindstradt gun and voice-over that accompanies it were moved in the final to much later in the level. The one in the weapons cabinet was replaced by a .357 Magnum (S&W Model 686) in the final.

Floating Objects

A few of the terrain objects are floating off the ground, indicating a possible terrain change in an earlier build.

This Stegosaurus

This guy is notorious for hitting objects and disappearing in the prototype engine.

The Stegosaurus here is in the final as well. However, his wake up distance (as with almost all the dinosaurs in Build 96) is substantially smaller than the final's. In addition, this guy's int dinosaur value hasn't been set so by default he tends to use the Raptor vocal cube. In addition, this Stegosaurus is notorious for running into things in the prototype engine and triggering the object teleport glitch. In fact, the teleport glitch has been jokingly called "getting teleported to Stegoland" because it was first observed with this fellow.

Removed Log

This log was removed from this location in the final. This location still exists in the final but is a bit more difficult to reach.

Crashed Jeep Area

This area has a crashed Jeep lying on its side. In earlier builds a Mayan Face was also present in this area. (More on the face later though.)

The Shed

This shed is still in the final. However, this door was removed from it. Most likely due to collision issues. Instead, two wooden planks were put over the doorway and the player had to shoot them off to get to the Benelli shotgun inside.

I guess this is kinda hot...in more ways than one...
Inside the shed a poster with a woman and fire surrounding her that says HOT in red letters can be found. This poster was cut from the final for unknown reasons.

Lost Horseshoe Throw

Jungle Road has this Horseshoe throwing game here where the player can pick up a horseshoe and try and get a ringer on the Iron pole. This little gimmick was shown in some early pre-release images but was scrapped from the final. It is found next to the shed in Build 96.

Another Floating Rock

This rock and the bones are here in the final. However, the rock isn't floating off the ground in the final.

Mayan Face Mystery

Mayan Face, Jeep
In a shadowed, rocky gorge, a stern Mayan face (see photo ref) looks down on a crashed jeep – two eerily parallel ruins.  
The jeep is a standard InGen model, a remnant of the hunting expedition from the Lost World – fleeing in panic, 
a hunter veered off the path of the monorail, and bounced out of control on a group of boulders.  
The jeep is on its side, and players can give it a push if they want, sending it down to the bottom of the gorge.
The jeep should be balanced so that you can push it over, sending it crashing to the bottom of the depression.

As probably can be guessed, the Mayan Face was trashed. However, there is a Jeep in the final and prototype 96 that can be pushed over that is lying on its side. In prototype 96, it is the only Jeep in the level. (Not counting the one in the basement.)

This is the Jeep. In the final, it seems the mass was increased so Anne has a harder time pushing it by herself. However, she can still shoot it to get it to move.

This voice-over plays here. It seems like Anne is talking to something. The Hunter's skeleton nearby wouldn't be a good candidate as it is too far away. Also another voice-over is there anyway. The trigger still exists in the final but it was disabled and the voice-over was removed from the final version's stream.tpa anyway. In early 2013, an early version of Jungle Road was recovered, along with the Mayan Face and confirmed that the Mayan Face went here.

Interestingly, the textures for the Mayan Face still exist in the Build 96 Jungle Road .swp file. They were removed from the final's .swp.

The Plantation House Area

As mentioned before, Plantation House was once a separate level. When it was merged with Jungle Road, not everything was carried over. What was carried over however was mostly removed or changed in the final the exception being the house outside of parts that could be shot off being mostly removed. For this section of the article, the house and the area nearby will be discussed.

The Small Chasm

This area here is right before the small open area with the Triceratops fighting the Velociraptor just before the fork that leads to the Plantation House and the rest of the monorail track. The terrain here is a lot more uneven than the final.

Shootable Parts

While parts of the house can be shot off in the final, there are even more parts that could be shot off in Build 96. In the 1997 developer walkthrough, when the house was planned to be part of the scrapped Plantation House level, an Albertosaurus was supposed to attack the house while the player was inside and it was supposed to rip off parts of the house to get at the player. The player could also shoot off parts of the house to injure it as well. It was supposed to eventually back off and walk away. These shootable parts of the house might be remnants of that plan.

Another One of Those Floating Rocks

If you think the number of floating objects in this level is bad, just wait until Industrial Jungle's Build 96 iteration...

Another indication of a terrain change in an earlier build.

Old Parasaurolophus Model Design

That old neck joint had some clipping bugs...

Located between the House and Cathy's Beach, is a Parasaurolophus. This one is here in the final but the model (as with all other paras in the game) was fixed. Notice the head pointing straight forward. In the final, the para stands with the head raised above its body. However, in the prototype levels, the paras all have their heads level with their tails. While this looks more realistic, looking closely reveals a problem: The crest clips through the neck! Probably why the model was changed in the final.

Also of noting, the area here is missing the large Allosaurus skeleton from the final... in fact, all the levels that had the skeleton in the final are missing it. Seems the model wasn't made until sometime after Build 96, or at least wasn't added to the game anyway.

Cathy's Beach

I have no idea what that yellow spot is there. Stuff like that happens in the final in places as well, usually those involving water. Trespasserb96cathy'sbeach 2.png

Cathy's beach is very different from the final, in fact, it may not actually be Cathy's beach in this prototype. In the 1997 developer walkthrough for Jungle Road, the player was supposed to come across a beach that was very barren and desolate. Nothing like the beautiful beach encountered in the Beach level. However, since Cathy's beach was in Plantation House, it seems they decided to move it to this location rather than port over the part of the original heightmap. This could explain why the spot looks nothing like the beach from the movie.

The Valley

Coming back up away from Cathy's Beach following the path that leads up to it will allow the player to enter the valley. In Build 96, it hasn't been closed off yet like it was in the final. While the area is devoid of dinosaurs, the vegetation is far thicker than in the final if you manage to get inside of it. Also worth noting, the lone Triceratops located in this area in the final is nowhere to be found. The Jeep that was here with a SPAS-12 nearby is also missing. Supposedly, this was to be a quiet walk through the forest without any dinosaurs attacking the player and an alternative path to the main one that was kept in the final. The thicker foliage can drop the framerate however which is probably why the foliage was mostly removed in the final.

Moving to the end dumps the player out at the monorail tracks close to the end of the level. Be careful exiting however as a raptor is nearby and will attack.

The Main Route

Prototype Anne's Floating Physics Suck

This pool of water near the spot where the Trike and two raptors are fighting doesn't seem to allow Anne to float. This is actually a problem with Anne's prototype model and has nothing to do with the water itself. This can be seen if the player uses TresEd to port in Anne's model from the final into the Build 96 level. There's a pool of water in Pine Valley that behaves this way as well. (More on that later.)

Different Textures and Objects

This weapons cabinet is here in the final, however the door was removed as was the stone post behind it. The Rugar Redhawk still remains there in the final as well. As for the ground textures, they're unique to this prototype.

Also worth noting is that the grass textures in this image are also not in the final.

The box puzzle here is a little bit different and less complicated (not that it was really complicated in the final.) here.

Back to the Tracks

This Stegosaurus pictured here isn't in the final. However, this Stegosaurus is actually mentioned in the official Strategy Guide. As mentioned earlier, the Strategy Guide was obviously being made at the same time Trespasser was being developed, as a result, there are a few differences from the final. In the final, this Stegosaurus was replaced with a Brachiosaurus. (Which is technically the last Brach found in the game as well.)

Further on down the road is this thing. It's here in the final, however the arm attached to the bucket (which you use as a ramp to climb into the bucket to get onto the tracks) is purple. In the final, the arm is aqua colored instead.

The base of this thing with the bucket is missing most of its physics. As a result, Anne will generally fall through the base while trying to climb on the arm.

Close to the end of the level is this Benelli shotgun. The gun is found inside this box in Build 96. As can probably be seen by this image, taking it out of here could pose a problem with collision. As a result, in the final it was moved outside of the box and placed on the ground in front of it on its side.
