La-Mulana Early Release is an almost finished version of the game that was released early (hence the name) on GR3Project's website for open testing.

General Differences

  • The prologue cutscene is still not here, and the title screen still doesn't go back to the Kobami logo screen.
  • Only map files 0 to 19 are present; this means the game's fully clearable, but bar the Maze of Galious' entrance, you can't play any minigames or the Hell Temple. As a result, music themes from those areas are also missing.
  • Unlike any other version, you close the game by pressing F11. Bizarrely, doing it with Alt+F4 doesn't work.

The SYSTEM WINDOW, containing the infamous typo on the Continue option. Contrary to belief that the number keys changed the sound volume in a version closer to the final, here they don't work at all. In fact, none of the options except for CONITNUE do, having yet to be implemented according to a disclaimer below the prototype's Download page.

Music Test Menu

Elementary, my dear Cactus.
This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: There's more music titles blanked out, please find and put them here. See if there are more differences too.

A bunch of tracks are named differently here unlike in the final: Sky Tower is named "eve"; Earth Wind, which has an entry despite not appearing normally in the game, is named "Children's Song"; and "Mother will be awakened" is simply titled "Mother". There are also other music titles that are simply blanked out, such as Interstice of the dimention (sic).
