XMB Graphics

Japanese XMB Icon

This build's Japanese XMB icon is very much a placeholder; it's the same one from LittleBigPlanet 2, but with the number 3 crudely drawn over where the number 2 would be.

The Pod

  • Bunkum, the Popit Academy and Store planets were all redesigned for the final game to either incorporate more moving parts or just to appear more visually interesting.

User Interface

  • All of the Popit menus have sharper corners in this build. In the final game, they were rounded out everywhere except for the main Popit menu and the Organisertron.

Changed Tool Icons

A number of gadgets and tools had their icons changed between the beta and the final game.

Bendy Rail

The early Bendy Rail icon depicts a rail with a somewhat more complex path than what's shown in the final game.

Character Tweaker

The Character Tweaker's icon in the beta featured all four playable characters. The final game's icon only features Toggle.

Progress Board

The early Progress Board features a happy Sackperson alongside an arrow pointing right. The icon in the final game only features the arrow.

Blaster Handle

In the beta, the Blaster Handle was simply a Rotator-shaped gadget with a ray gun icon on it. It was given its own model for the final game, and its icon was updated to reflect this.

State Sensor

The early State Sensor icon used a slightly more detailed magnifying glass icon, and a Sackboy doodle could be seen through the lens. The graphic was simplified for the final game.

Object Saver

The early Object Saver icon was a simple arrow pointing down to a rectangle. The final icon was changed to a curved arrow pointing to a floppy disk.

Sound Object

The Sound Object's model was changed from an elaborate speaker to a more basic speaker with bolts on each corner. The early Sound Object's icon is lifted from LittleBigPlanet 2's Tools sound object, though a Popit icon much closer to the in-game model can be found unused at gamedata/lbp3/misc/mesh/speaker/speaker_nova_icon.tex.

Character Changer

The Character Changer originally took on the form of an archway with curtains, with an icon of the chosen character appearing on the curtains. A different model was created for the final game, and its icon was updated as such.

Velociporter

The early Velociporter icon has blue lights. The final game changed the lights to green and added a beam of light.

Swivel Light

The early icon for the Swivel Light is a stock photo of a ceiling light, which was replaced with a render of the in-game model.

Changed Tweak Icons

Many tweak icons in this build use simple placeholder text in lieu of proper graphics, though a few tweaks do have proper graphics that are different from the final game.

Sackbot Animations (Sackboy)

While the Sackbots in this build only let you choose from the 10 animation styles that were in LittleBigPlanet 2, gamedata/texture_library/ui/tweak_sackbot_animation_icons.tex has icons for every animation style in the game. The sheet features early icons for Newton and Nana Pud, as well as placeholder icons for Pinky Buflooms, the Carved Bear and Evil Newton. Note that Jacob (the deer with the sunglasses) has an icon in this sheet, suggesting that he had his own set of animations at one point, though the animations themselves do not exist in this build.

Sackbot Animations (Dwarf Toggle)

gamedata/texture_library/ui/tweak_sackbot_animation_dwarf_icons.tex contains three placeholder icons for the default animation set, Zom Zom and Papal Mache, all of which were replaced with proper icons in the final game.

Super Hero

The outfit icon for Big Toggle's Super Hero Costume was re-rendered with different lighting. Its resolution was also increased from 64x64 to 256x256.

Changed Adventure Map Previews

The preview icons for the various Adventure Map terrain styles changed between this build and the final game. The early icons have more consistent lighting, and only use the default Adventure Map materials, whereas the final icons appear to use the lighting and materials from the Story Mode maps.

Changed Music Artwork

Between the beta and the final game, the artwork for various music tracks was changed. For the Interactive Music, artwork from the beta is either concept art or cropped screenshots, whereas the final artwork seems to have been lifted from the Story Mode's level badges.

Newton's Theme

The early artwork for Newton's Theme appears to be concept art showing a slightly different design for Newton, whereas the final artwork is just the level badge from "Newton's Airship".

Stitchem Manor

The early artwork for Stitchem Manor has much darker sky and appears to take place during a storm. The final's artwork has bright green sky with a moon visible in the background, and Stitchem Manor itself is more prominent.

Manglewood

This piece of early artwork appears to be concept art for Manglewood Swamp. The final game just has a gorilla with 3D glasses for its Manglewood cover art.

How You Like Me Now - The Qemists Northern Soul Remix

The final game's cover art for How You Like Me Now - The Qemists Northern Soul Remix was changed from the artwork used for 'The House That Dirt Built' to a slightly edited version of the artwork used on the 'How You Like Me Now' EP.

So Fine

For some reason, the final game ditched the cover art for So Fine in favour of what appears to be a placeholder image.

Pinball of the Undead

Pinball of the Undead's early artwork appears to have been taken from a screenshot from some incarnation of the level "Crumbling Crypts". The final game uses the same zombie head graphic as the beta, though with hair and a body added to it.

Crime Scene

As with So Fine, Crime Scene went from proper cover art to a photo of the band's members with text overlaid on top of it.

Swamp and Ceremony

The Ziggurat

This early artwork appears to be concept art for the Ziggurat hub. The final artwork for The Ziggurat is the level badge from "On The Link Of Disaster".

Steam Punk'd

This early artwork for Steam Punk'd appears to be concept art for the inside of the train seen in the level "Go Loco". The final's artwork is lifted from Go Loco's level badge.

Waltz of the Flowers

The early artwork for Waltz of the Flowers is the artwork for Chrome Canyon's 'Elemental Themes' album. This was changed to "Tutu Tango"'s level badge for the final game. The Chrome Canyon artwork is still in the final game, albeit unused.

The early icon for Needlepoint (Summer) features a view of the upper portion of the background. This was changed to a view of the lower portion of the background for the final. For some reason, the beta icon is double the resolution of the final icon.

Needlepoint (Winter)

The early icon for Needlepoint (Winter) is similar to the early Needlepoint (Summer) background, except it takes place in winter, and features mountains that aren't present in the summer variant's early icon. The final icon also tints the scene purple.

Manglewood

The early icon for Manglewood is a zoom-out featuring most of the background in one image, and features a second dinosaur prop that doesn't appear in the final background.

Ziggurat

The early Ziggurat background icon uses a more green-ish colour scheme, with everything having a green tint to it. The final icon is a bit more vibrant.

Bunkum Lagoon's early icon is a zoom-out of the upper portion of the map with more simplistic lighting. The final icon was zoomed in, and has more vibrant lighting and fireworks.
