This early build of Postal III was first demoed at Igromir 2007, at least four years before the game was released. It was then leaked in June 2020 alongside the game's original design documents, several pieces of concept art, and even early builds of Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode Two.

To do:
  • Document all of the test maps in the demo.
  • Maybe discuss the concept art/design documents if needed.
  • Document all models that are specifically only found in this build of the game.
  • Everything, basically.

Test Map

The highlight of this prototype is the demo map, as shown in the video. Compared to the Catharsis in the final game, it's a lot dirtier and much more brown. Out of all of the maps from the leaked build, this one is the most complete, suggesting it was a test map meant to showcase the artstyle. The concept art related to it seems to suggest this, with all of it labelled in a folder called "Test Town."

Differences

Because this is a very early version of the game, a lot of things were changed between 2007 and 2011, with some things getting revamped or removed completely.

General

  • There are only six weapons in the prototype build: the Pistol, Badgersaw (which took on the appearance of a wolverine), Pee, Sniper Rifle, Shovel and the Dude's empty hands.
  • The Pistol has 33 rounds in its magazine compared to the 14 in the final game.

Extra sprites were added to the texture sheet over time.

Catnip Throwable

Before release, the catnip weapon was meant to be an actual throwable instead of having to place down each catnip manually. This would have made that cat retrieving mission so much easier...
