A development build of Skullmonkeys was discovered on a bootleg copy, complete with accessible debug features. This build is dated December 16, 1997, one month before the US release.

Phart Head is spelled with an "F" in the control setup, but the tutorial message in-game still spells it as "Phart". This appears to have been a last-minute change, especially since the back cover, in addition to marketing materials, spell it as "Fart".

The default audio setting is Mono in the prototype.

Debug Functions

Select+R1: Enables/disables slow motion

Select+R2: Pauses/unpauses the game without the pause menu

Cheat codes do not work in the prototype.
