General Differences

  • The bugged title screen fade-in from the 0606 and 0608 builds has been fixed. The same fix applies to the fade-in for Sonic & Tails' endings.
  • The Level Select code now works in Sonic & Knuckles alone and is now the same as in the final. This also applies to Debug Mode if locked on.
  • Pressing A while paused with Debug Mode now sends you back to the title screen.
  • Title cards finally say "SONIC & KNUCKLES" ("SONIC 3 & KNUCKLES" if locked on).
  • When finishing Act 1 of any zone, power-up monitors now appear in front of signposts, rather than behind them.
  • Selecting "Special Stage 1" on the Level Select will bring you to the faded "NO WAY!" screen. Use Game Genie code FFFFA1:0001 to enable the Blue Spheres minigame.
  • The player can't input a password for Blue Spheres yet.
  • When playing on a Japanese system, Tails' life counter still calls him "Tails", even though the results tally calls him "Miles".

Zone Differences

Hydrocity Zone

  • The Screw Mobile's twister in Act 2 no longer glitches out Super/Hyper forms.

Marble Garden Zone

  • The Act 1 miniboss crash glitch caused by beating the boss with player 2 offscreen can still be achieved.

Mushroom Hill Zone

  • The Act 2 boss' starting position is still shifted slightly left compared to the final, allowing you to hit the boss endlessly without destroying the satellite. Only hitting the satellite itself will begin the boss fight. The first 7 hits on the boss will count towards defeating it after destroying the satellite.

Lava Reef Zone

  • Knuckles' boulder in Act 2 now cancels your Super/Hyper form.
  • During the Act 2 boss, the boss theme no longer restarts when the Robotnik fight takes place.
  • After defeating the Act 2 boss, the lava now cools down when the animal capsule is broken, rather than after the results tally.

Hidden Palace Zone

  • Beating Knuckles will still continue his song until the cutscene plays.

Sky Sanctuary Zone

  • Sonic/Tails and Knuckles can no longer enter each other's acts.
