Puss n Boots is an action game starring Toei Animation's mascot Pero the Cat. It's based on the classic story Around the World in Eighty Days.

Hidden Text

While not actually seen in-game, the string MASAHIRO is used as a RAM check to determine if the game has been soft-reset (with the Reset button) or hard-reset (by turning the power off and on again). Masahiro Yoshihara was a programmer on the game.

Regional Differences

Four years after the Japanese version, the game would be heavily reworked and released in the US. The goal in the Japanese version is to defeat Count Gruemon on top of the Big Ben, in the US version, you defeat the count on top of the Statue of Liberty.

Miscellaneous

  • In the Japanese version, you must reach the end before the 80 in-game days are up. In the US version, there's no time limit.
  • The Japanese version has 8 stages (England, Atlantic Ocean, Arabia, Hong Kong, Pacific Ocean, Alaska, North Pole, and Big Ben). The US version has 7 stages (The West, The Ocean, Arabia, Space Wars, London, Liberty, and New York).
  • You can use vehicles in some levels. However, the sailboat from the Japanese version was replaced with a biplane in the US version.
