Risk of Rain/Unused Enemies
This is a sub-page of Risk of Rain.
Note: Most of the content here won't work hacked into the game without extra modification.
Unused Normal Enemies
Security Chest
The Security Chest is Risk of Rain's version of the classic mimic monster.
It has sprites for idle, walking, and a hit frame.
Its appearance is a small chest with a siren and legs. Although there are only sprites for a small chest variant, the sprite names suggest there might have been other variants if the enemy was fully implemented (Being Mimic1Idle rather than MimicIdle).
When killed, the enemy drops an item equivalent to opening a standard small chest. Other than dropping an item, it's just a clone of the Lemurian object.
Suicider
The Suicider is an enemy which will try to chase down the enemy and detonate itself when near to attack, dealing 200% damage in a fairly small area around itself.
"Fake" Imp Overlord
The fake Imp Overlord is identical to the normal Imp Overlord in appearance. When you compare the fake Imp Overlord's stats to the standard variant, it has about half the health and deals slightly more than half the damage. It also doesn't have a boss health bar.
This enemy is 1 of the 2 unused enemies which actually has its own spawn card. It takes only around a quarter of the amount of spawn points a normal Imp Overlord takes to spawn.
Bot
A robot, the design of which is very similar to HAN-D.
It has a 2 frame glide animation and a single frame jump sprite.
Aside from the sprites, it's just a copy of the Lemurian.
Cube
Another Lemurian clone, this one is a pretty generic slime monster. All it has is a simple walk animation.
Small Magma Worm
A smaller enemy variant of the normal Magma Worm boss.
Has less than half the health of the normal boss variant, but is otherwise pretty much the same.
Eye
A strange enemy which looks like some sort of yeti, only given the simple name "eye".
Although it looks like a standing enemy, it actually flies, circling the player like an Archer Bug.
It has a simple blinking animation as its idle, and an attack animation that flashes as if firing a laser.
It's very incomplete and cannot be hit or attack the player in any way.
Unused Bosses
Post
An unfinished boss with a very unique design. Unfortunately the only part that was finished were the spawn and idle sprites, other than that it's just a copy of the Ancient Wisp.
Although it's so far from finished, it's 1 of the only 2 unused enemies that actually have a spawn card, though its spawn stats just match that of the Ancient Wisp.
The Pale One
The Pale One, subtitled Hunter of Time, is an unused boss which seems to be a reference to one of the enemies in the indie game Iji. Although this boss is much larger than the enemy it's referencing, the developers of Risk of Rain are big Iji fans.
This boss is quite old, being only the second one worked on in the game, after the Magma Worm. As such, what's left of it is barely functional.
It attacks by teleporting beside the player, attempting to poke them, summoning its traps, and then teleporting out of existence again. When it teleports near you is your only opportunity to attack it. The traps it spawns appear for a couple seconds before snapping shut and freezing you in place if they catch you.
Abscinder
The Abscinder is a boss made up of many segments which flies around after the player. Every couple seconds, it fires 3 green circles which can damage the player.
Its subtitle is Hydra Worm.
When part of the enemy takes enough damage, it splits, similar to the Eater of Worlds boss from Terraria.
Scaleless Wyvern
The Scaleless Wyvern, subtitled Toxic Flyer, is an unused boss which is made up of many different segments and very much unlike anything else in the game.
It takes up quite a bit of space, and only flies around the player in circles.
Its attack is unfinished, but it seems like it would have spat a big green laser of some sort.
The attack and design are similar to that of the Spitter.
Totem
A boss made up of 4 different segments, each of which would attack and animate separately.
Only 2 attacks are programmed, and only 1 face animates.
The lowest face has a couple frames for eye animation but otherwise is still static.
The bottom head's attack fires 2 shockwaves off in both directions, the shockwaves create explosions every 15 frames that damage the player.
The other attack fires 11 red circular missiles in a 100x100 pixel area near the player, similar to those fired by the Wandering Vagrant but missing the extra white ring.
As no other attacks are programmed, all heads 2 to 4 all share the missile attack.
Early Providence
An early version of the final boss.
Obviously, they changed quite a bit before the final version.
This version stays in 1 spot. When they attack, they cast out a giant ring in front of them, which is purely for visuals.
Their first attack spawns pink death circles around the player similar to how the final version does. Their other attack shoots the black and white death circles across the ground every couple tiles. Seemingly, the black and white death circles were originally lightning.
When asked why the boss was changed so much, Hopoo responded that it seemed more like "more like you smacking a board" than personal 1 on 1 fighting.
Sprite Only Enemies
Giant Crab
A giant crab boss, similar to the Colossus.
This boss was actually a community suggestion, just like the Imp Overlord, and the sprites were drawn by a community member that also drew the Imp Overlord's sprites.
Although the idle and walk sprites were added to the game, they were removed in a later version.
Giant Mushroom
An object for this one actually does exist, but all it does is set its team to enemy, health to 1000, and teleport onto boss spawning ground.
The sprites follow the naming scheme that other boss versions of normal enemies do, being the boss version of the Mushrum enemy.
The larger sprite is its idle frame and the smaller sprite isn't specified.
Monkey
It's a strange round monkey.
All that exists of this enemy is the death animation and idle frame. These enemy sprites were the very first added to the game.
Hive
A hive-cannon thing that's shooting something. The color palette matches that of Archer Bugs so it may have been intended to shoot them out.
