Hidden Menu
At the title screen, hold Up + Left + A + C. Reset the game while still keeping the buttons held, and when the title screen reappears, press B to open a hidden menu that contains a sound test, as well as toggles to open the entire map and enable infinite lives and invincibility.
Below that menu is a printout of the current system's hardware info at $A10001 ("FDD UNIT" refers to the unreleased floppy disk drive add-on), and a build date.
