This is a sub-page of Saints Row (2006).

Hmmm...
To do:
Check for more.
And you were just a scroll away from being fired too...
Oh dear, I do believe I have the vapors.
This page contains content that is not safe for work or other locations with the potential for personal embarrassment.

Pre-E3 2005 build leftovers?! Bonus!

Unused Chunk Textures

tree-1

Found only in sr_chunk05_wh contains this odd placeholder or low-res tree called tree-1 inside the file. It resembles the trees seen in another early graphic.

SR1 tree-1.png

Unused "boudoir" Graphic

From the boudoir graphics used in the Saints Row Church and Lopez Mansion, one singular illustration found in the bottom-right part of the texture sheet goes unused.

SR1 boudoir.png

skyblue01

SR1 SkyTexture.png

An obvious placeholder graphic for the sky labelled as skyblue01, using a real-life stock photo rather than separated cloud graphics. A similar graphic, albeit overcast can be found in the E3 2005 build. The graphic would be used as a backdrop of the Stilwater Science Museum interior in Saints Row 2, though it's also left over in the chunk111yacht (Ultor Yacht) file.

rldbr_whores_wo

A unique set of graphics (rldbr_whores_wo), restricted to a cutscene-only area chunk07_pmp for the Vice Kings Snatch Activity has some additional images that go unseen in that cutscene, or are hard to make out due to the semi-blurred background.

SR1 rldbr whores wo.png

Early Building Graphics

Hmmm...
To do:
Find the relevant chunks filename for those graphics to compare with file.

Found in the chunks folder is a curious file called gdc_buildings_2, with GDC likely referring to the build shown at the Game's Developer Conference 2006. They have files of a05, a15, a17, a19, a22 and a24, with some extras.

Unused Model Textures

Unused Racing Textures

Found in race-start2g, race-start2r and race-check2r are unused textures that signify checkpoints, start and finish line in the Racing Activity. They're labelled as raceind_flagg, raceind_flagr and raceind_checkr respectively.

SR1 raceind flagg.pngSR1 raceind flagr.pngSR1 raceind checkr.png

Erroneously placed in race-check2g of the preload_lower file rather then the peg file is a placeholder graphic saying "TEMP OBJECT".

SR1 raceind checkg.png

Unused Yacht Decals

An intended decal for Hughes' Yacht in the final mission of the game, saying "Queen Ulrike". This is likely intended as a small easter egg to Red Faction, another game developed by Volition.

SR1 f29 s name.png

Another decal meant for Hughes' Yacht in the final mission of the game, that says "Hughes' Mistake".

Unseen Voxel Decal

Found in the files for linstrunk during the "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do..." cutscene is a decal for a spare tire in the trunk that is never seen.

Unused HUD Graphics

Map

Unused graphics exist for Stronghold Missions, listed as map_start_stronghold_3ss, map_start_stronghold_lc, map_start_stronghold_vk, map_start_stronghold_wr. The Carnales icon was used in the demo, before being replaced with just the gang symbol in the final. There strangely exists one for the Third Street Saints, despite not having any Stronghold missions in the final.

A third icon for clothing shops labelled as map_store_clothing_mid exist, implying that it was meant to be used for middle-class clothing outlets. The graphics can be restored if the clothing values are set to 2. The graphic would be technically used in Saints Row 2, only appearing on directional signs rather than as a map icon which goes unused there, too.

SR1 map store clothing mid.png

An earlier "undiscovered location" icon called map_other_hidden, originally used in the Demo.

SR1 map other hidden.png

A placeholder graphic called map_other_replaceme. It's also in Saints Row 2.

SR1 map other replaceme.png

An unused "darkened" variant of the finalized map intended for the Demo (mapsaintsrow_demo), only showing Saint's Row District covered in a blue outline. The final version of the Demo map uses the "automatically-darkened" variant of the map. It's also in the Demo's files, unused showing that the finalized Stilwater layout was decided back at that time.

Weapons

SR1 kabob icon.png

A HUD graphic for an unused weapon for a kabob from the demo appears here.

SR1 Stungun.png

A HUD graphic for a scrapped stun gun. The design here is different than it appears in Saints Row 2.

Unlock Graphics

Gang Cars

Graphics exist for singular gang-owned cars that were meant to be used on unlock screens, before they were replaced in sets of three.

hd-ts_saintsrow01

SR1 hd-ts saintsrow01-0.png

An unused unlock graphic for Mission Beach as a neighborhood, despite it already being unlocked at the start. The files for "Canonized" planned to show that graphic as an unlockable.

Unused Font Graphics

Regular Font variant

Separate Assembled (Mockup)
SR1 px thinvar nobdr.png
SR1 px thinvar nobdr ASSEMBLED.png

An unused "shiny variant" of the in-game font, including the green "$" that was used in the X05 build. The equilvalent graphics don't seem to match up with the final text font set.

Regular Heading Font

SR1 px giantout nobdr ASSEMBLED.png

A "regular variant" of the heading font, without the shiny effect applied to it.

Early Header Font

SR1 px hdgoutline nobdr ASSEMBLED.png

px_hdg and px_hdgoutline contain an early header font, used in the E3 2005 build.

Early Japanese Font

There seems to be an earlier Japanese font leftover in non-Japan releases, lacking several symbols in comparison to the Japanese version.

SR1 jap nobdr INT.png

"ige" Graphics

There are three "ige" graphics going by ige_regular, ige_small and ige_smallest.

ige_regular and ige_small appear to be corrupted...

SR1 ige regular nobdr.png

SR1 ige small nobdr.png

But ige_smallest appears to show some unused pixel-y text file meant for the cellphone. The final version uses px_digital instead.

SR1 ige smallest nobdr.png

Early Cellphone Font Texture

Found in cellfont and cellfont [DUPLICATE 1] is cellfont_nobdr, with the font used up to the Demo builds.

Placeholder Graphics

Temporary Multiplayer Placeholder Graphic

SR1 pc testasset.png

Found in covrs_mptest_cl is a humorous placeholder graphic labelled as pc_testasset, saying "M.P. TEST ASSET - DO NOT SHIP!"

DXT5 Placeholder

SR1 hud sheet fades.png

A placeholder graphic saying "DXT5 ONLY" located in hud_sheet_fades. It's not even noted in the bitmapsheets file.

Unused Interface Graphics

interface-startup-dm

SR1 interface-startup-dm.png

A leftover from the demo depicting the controls.

interface-legal1

Early Final
SR1 interface-legal1.png SR1 interface-legal us.png

A slightly earlier version of the copyright screen labelled as interface-legal1, at a slightly different resolution, a near-final logo design and an additional logo for Xbox Live. It appears to be from before June, judging from the finalized ESRB age rating and a similar earlier screen in the demo.

interface-upsell

Demo ending screen leftovers, in all five languages. Unlike the screen used in the demo, they're grouped together rather than as separate files (upsell_base and upsell_logos), except that the upsell_logos use the English-language graphic.

startup_loading

SR1 startup loading.png

In startup-interface is an earlier startup screen labelled as startup_loading, showing preliminary key art of generic gangsters rather than the game's main characters. It's used in the Post-X05 build.

ui_credits_default

SR1 ui credits default.png

Found in interface-credits is a silhouetted mugshot of a human, labelled ui_credits_default. Maybe the credits was supposed to show images of people who worked on the game? A similar kind of feature would appear in Saints Row: The Third, Saints Row IV, and Saints Row (2022) showing group photos of developers.
