Street Fighter Alpha 2 (Arcade)
Street Fighter Alpha 2 |
---|
Also known as: Street Fighter Zero 2 (JP) This game has unused graphics. |
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article? |
To do: |
Street Fighter Alpha 2 is the second game in the secondary Street Fighter series. You know, the one where Ryu gets a fan and an 'evil' version?

Unused Graphics
Zangief Sprites
Unfinished Sprites | Mid-Air Recovery |
---|---|
A set of unfinished sprites for Zangief, which show him in a backflip. Several frames appear very similar to the sprites used in his mid-air recovery animation in the final game (as well as his jumping Hard Kick), apart from minor adjustments to his body and the position of his hands.
First CPU Opponent Selection Text
This unused text suggests that the player could choose his/her first CPU opponent after choosing his/her fighter in a feature similar to several Neo Geo fighting games. This feature would not be implemented until Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike.
Regional Differences
Title Screen
Japan | International |
---|---|
Continuing the tradition from the first game, Street Fighter Alpha 2 is known as Street Fighter Zero 2 in Japan.
Manual Guard Mode
Japan | International (English) |
---|---|
While the Japanese version got a full explanation on what Manual Guard Mode does, the English-speaking audience got a whole lot of nothing. It wouldn't be the first time, nor the last. The Japanese text translates to:
• Manual operation • Guards yourself
Additional Character Versions
The western releases include additional character versions such as Evil Ryu, and Dhalsim and Zangief based on their Street Fighter II': Champion Edition appearances, which can be selected with codes. These are not in the original Japanese version.
Revisional Differences
The game received a revision in Japan titled Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha.
Additions
New Survival, and Dramatic Battle modes were added through cheats. And there are Super Street Fighter 2 versions of Chun-Li, Dhalsim, Ken, Ryu, Sagat, Vega (M. Bison/Dictator), and Zangief.
Evil Ryu Dialogue
Evil Ryu has his own set of dialogues and an ending where he defeats Akuma. None of this was included in any of the localized console ports of the game, using instead the data of normal Ryu.
Midboss Fight:
Sakura: *pant* *pant*...I finally found you...huh? You're...
Ryu:...
Sakura: You're not the same person as before...what happened?!
Ryu: You are in my way...I will show no mercy!
VS Akuma
Akuma: Hmmm...quite a sharp look in your eyes...for a boy!
Ryu: Akuma...
Ryu: You're master's...master Gouken's enemy!
Akuma: Hah, you're nothing but a mere beginner.
Do you think you can defeat me with that pathetic killing power of yours?
Ending:
With Akuma's demise, Ryu was left with his fists soaked red with blood.
Afterwards, he disappeared--his whereabouts unknown.
Had Ryu fully embraced the true Satsui no Hadou?
Did he live, and succeed Akuma as the Master of the Fist?
Only time will tell when we see him again.
Will the sins etched on his fists lead him to oblivion?
