Taiko no Tatsujin 5 is the fifth arcade installment of the titular rhythm game series. Notably, it introduced a feature which allows the player to choose songs before difficulties, which, despite being removed four games later, would become the norm starting from the series' 2011 revival game.

NOTE: All of the offsets take in consideration an unscrambled version of the game's data (excluding bootloader) unless stated otherwise.

Unused Chart Data

Taiko no Tatsujin 5 stores 206 charts in its data, which are associated with the game's 54 songs. Of these 206, there are several instances of unused data, be it entirely unused files or just unused branch data.

From Previous Games

The following files have unused branches which also appear in previous games, or that match their appearance in previous games, be them arcade or home installments.

  • Chart 006 - ANP_H (Anpanman no march, Hard/Muzukashii)
  • Chart 008 - ANP_N (Anpanman no march, Normal/Futsuu)
  • Chart 041 - CLSW_H (William Tell jokyoku, Hard/Muzukashii)
  • Chart 064 - DORA_M (Doraemon ondo, Donderful!)
  • Chart 071 - ENKA_H (Heisei taiko kaidou ~bachi no onna~, Hard/Muzukashii)
  • Chart 103 - LVX_B (Lovely X, Battle)
  • Chart 104 - LVX_H (Lovely X, Hard/Muzukashii)
  • Chart 114 - NATSU_B (Natsumatsuri, Battle)
  • Chart 123 - ODORU_H (Odoru Ponpokolin, Hard/Muzukashii)
  • Chart 143 - SKA_H (Go go kitchen, Hard/Muzukashii)
  • Chart 155 - SSG_H (See saw game ~Yuukanna koi no uta~, Hard/Muzukashii)
  • Chart 163 - TAI_H (Taisetsunamono, Hard/Muzukashii)
  • Chart 164 - TAI_M (Taisetsunamono, Donderful!)
  • Chart 176 - TOUCH_H (Touch, Hard/Muzukashii)
  • Chart 187 - TTK_N (Hamtaro tottoko uta, Normal/Futsuu)

Same as Normal Branch

Curiously, Chart 175 - TOUCH_E and Chart 178 - TOUCH_N, which are, respectively, the Easy/Kantan and Normal/Futsuu charts for the song Touch, had their used branch data updated so that it is now the same as the unused ones, which were first seen in Taiko no Tatsujin 4.

Placeholders

true blue / CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA

All of true blue‍ 's charts, which are Chart 017 - BLUE_E (Easy/Kantan), 018 - BLUE_H (Hard/Muzukashii), 019 - BLUE_M (Donderful!), and 020 - BLUE_N (Normal/Futsuu), as well as all of CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA‍ 's charts, which are Chart 025 - CHALA_E (Easy/Kantan), 026 - CHALA_H (Hard/Muzukashii), 027 - CHALA_M (Donderful!), and 028 - CHALA_N (Normal/Futsuu), have their 1P Master branch areas populated at measure 10. However, it merely consists of a Small Don (ドン) note on every beat.

Mori no kumasan

All of Mori no kumasan‍ 's charts, which are Chart 099 - KUMA_B (Battle), Chart 100 - KUMA_E (Easy/Kantan), Chart 101 - KUMA_H (Hard/Muzukashii), and Chart 102 - KUMA_N (Normal/Futsuu), have a lone drumroll area at the 2P Master branch area of measure 32, which starts at beat 0.25 and ends at beat 0.667.

Unused Files

Chart 000 - ABARE_D

A placeholder chart for the song Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger, which consists of 100 measures of Don (red) notes on every beat at roughly 240 BPM (counting offset compensations, the chart's average BPM is 238.6379).

Chart 087

This chart, which does not have a name in the executable, is identical to IDOL_M.BIN, an unused chart meant to be used for the Extreme/Oni difficulty of the song Eringi no ekubo in Taiko no Tatsujin: Doki! Shinkyoku Darake no Haru Matsuri. In fact, in this game's data, the chart is grouped between IDOL_H, the song's Hard/Muzukashii chart, and IDOL_N, the song's Normal/Futsuu chart.

Unused Song Leftovers

The game's graphical data contains leftovers for two unused songs. Because most of these specific graphics have multiple palettes, a reference for them will be provided below:

  • Results/Ranking Screens
    • Results (purple; slightly extended below)
      Hard/Muzukashii course (navy blue)
      Donderful course (fire red)
      Medium/Futsuu course (green)
      Unknown 1 (magenta)
      Easy/Kantan course (red)
      Unknown 2 (purple)
  • Song Select
    • Selected (black)
      Anime category (orange)
      Namco Original category (bronze)
      J-POP category (dark cyan; dessaturated)
      Variety category (olive)
      Hard/Muzukashii course (dark cyan)
      Donderful course (orange)
      Medium/Futsuu course (green)
      Easy/Kantan course (red)
      Battle course (gray)

The first song, Tetsuwan Atom no uta, refers to the opening theme of the 1963 anime Tetsuwan Atom (also known as Astro Boy); its graphical data is complete, with graphics meant to be seen in gameplay, ranking/result, and song select screens. The song never made a proper appearance in the Taiko no Tatsujin series, but it's worth to note the opening theme from the 2003 reboot (true blue) is featured in this game.

The second song, Classic medley (rock-hen), refers to a classic song medley which originates from Taiko no Tatsujin 3, and that also appeared in Taiko 4. While the song was absent from this version, it was revived again in the next game. Only song selection screen graphics exist, which are found at offset 0xBC208C.

Unused Graphic

Found at offset 0x76A350 is an alternate fan graphic meant to be displayed for Player 2 in the Player entry screen, and that has a different font for the text (参加). Rather than displaying this graphic, the game simply displays a palette swap of Player 1's (0x762310).

Unused Music

Curiously, the opening music from the original Taiko no Tatsujin can be found alongside the game's background music data.

Unused Sounds

Result Announcements

Stored alongside Don-chan/Kat-chan's voice clips are several unused voice clips of them announcing individual song, battle round and total battle results, respectively. It's worth noting that while they do announce individual song results starting from Taiko no Tatsujin 7, they never announce battle round and total battle results outside of the console games.

Game Over

Both of these sounds are leftovers from the previous game, and are also found alongside Don-chan/Kat-chan's voice clips.
The first sound is a jingle that plays on the game over screen after failing a song. As of this game, a different jingle is played.

The second sound is an announcer clip that plays on the game over screen after clearing all songs and viewing the credits.
