Unnecessary Page

Does anyone actually have any unused content for this game? If not, I'm going to nuke the page. A localized title screen alone is not TCRF-worthy. --BMF54123 01:48, 17 May 2012 (EDT)

Well, there is this...

Unused Music

By modifying 0x03C40AE to ?? you can play music from Donkey Kong Land at the Language Select Screen. I don't believe these songs are used, I know some are though.

  • 01 - Main Theme
  • 04 - Temple
  • 06 - Ship
  • 0C - File Select
  • 0D

There are some songs I don't recall being used in this game in general. Nensondubois 16:03, 17 May 2012 (EDT)

The only one in that list that I'm not certain about being used is 0C. 01, 04, 06, and 0D are used by DK's Treehouse, Millstone Mayhem/Temple Tempest, Gangplank Galleon, and Slipslide Ride, respectively.
There are some suspicious DKL3 tracks in the game, though:
  • 1A - Bonus Area, Intro (DKL3)
  • 1B - Bonus Area, no Intro (DKL3)
  • 1C - Bonus Win (DKL3)
  • 1E - Goal (DKL3)
  • 1F - Death (DKL3)
Perhaps someone who knows more about this game than me could tell whether these are unused or not. --Mattrizzle 17:53, 17 May 2012 (EDT)
You want to know if the bold hex values above are used in the game or not? That's something I think I can do. I played the hell out of this version of this game when I was younger but haven't played DKL3 at all. I'll let you know if the above is used or not in a few. --Cuber456 18:43, 17 May 2012 (EDT)
How do I modify 0x03C40AE to ?? to listen to the music tracks? Is it in a hex editor or a GS code? Squirreldroid 18:47, 17 May 2012 (EDT)

Hex editors can work wonders! Also, here is the Game Genie code equivalent ??0-AEB-D52. Replace ?? with the song ID number. Nensondubois 18:50, 17 May 2012 (EDT)

Oh thank you so much for your help. Do you happen to have any photos of this game in a ZIP folder? If so can I please have some of it? I'll be sure to give you credit if I use them ;). Is the "AE" the part I should replace with 06, 0C, etc.? Squirreldroid 18:57, 17 May 2012 (EDT)

I just checked all the bold songs. NONE of them sound familiar from this game. They all sound like they came from DKC3 which makes sense since DKL3 is based off of DKC3. Other people should check to see if they agree with me. If what I said is true, I think it would hint that this version of DKC was built off of DKL3. --Cuber456 19:00, 17 May 2012 (EDT)

I guess I'll just add this to the page since it seems no one else besides me can confirm whether they get used or not. I'm 99% sure they don't get used because the style of music just doesn't fit with DKC but fits more with DKL3(or DKC3 for that matter). Plus I can't place where these songs would go when I listen to them. For example, if I change the same byte to 20, I just know that this is the music played for Candy's Challenge. I can't do this with the songs in question. Mattrizzle, just a quick question. How on earth were you able to determine that byte 0x03C40AE controls the music for the language screen??? --Cuber456 18:18, 19 May 2012 (EDT)

I guess Nensondubois disassembled some of the Z80 assembly code using a debugger and found the location where the music byte for the language select screen is set. --Mattrizzle 01:43, 20 May 2012 (EDT)

Song 1F is very interesting because while the instruments sound like they come from DKL3, I haven't actually heard that song at all in DKL3 -- even when hacking the ROM. The only time I've ever heard the song is in DKC3 SNES, which plays when you lose to Cranky in that optional Swanky mini-game. So labeling it as "Death" is erroneous, because it doesn't play when you die in any game.

And of course, I have yet to hear it at all in DKC GBC, but then again, I've barely played it, so I could be wrong.

There's a slim possibility that the song exists in DKL3, but I haven't found it. Then again, there are some hex values for songs that are silent in all screens that I've checked (00, 01, 0A, 17, and 18). But I haven't checked every screen, so it's possible (although unlikely) some of these songs might be played in certain screens. The reason why I say this is because in DKL2, some songs, such as the unused Boss Bossanova song that I recently discovered, as well as Klubba's Reveille, Token Tango, among some others, play in certain screens (like boss screens, or bonus screens) but are either silent or glitchy in others (normal levels, world map, etc.), and DKL3's game engine is heavily based off of DKL2's.

But if/until song 1F in this game is found in DKL3, we can assume that it's not only unused in this game, but it originated in this game (at least this rendition, since the DKC3 SNES rendition is obviously different). --Blaziken257 16:34, 13 July 2012 (EDT)

1D is used. It's the Slipslide Ride song :p. Squirreldroid 17:20, 13 July 2012 (EDT)

That's 0D, not 1D. 1D is the Bonus Lose jingle, which is used in this game.

Here's a full list for those who like lists (with IDs):

Possible unused sound effects

By going to ROM offset 24096 and changing the byte there, you can control the sound effect that's heard when you get an extra life. I haven't played with all values yet, but there are some that I don't recognize:

  • 12 and 13: Sounds similar to when the Kongs get hurt in the DKL games, but a bit elongated here.
  • 14 and 15: Sounds even more similar to the sound effect that is heard when the Kongs get hurt in the DKL games.
  • 16 and 17: This sounds like the sound effect when you play the card game in DKL3 and get a matching pair, but I don't remember it at all in this game.
  • 18 and 19: Some glitchy, short, low-pitched sound effect.
  • 20 and 21: This time, a glitchy, short, high-pitched sound effect. I vaguely remember hearing this glitchy sound effect in DKL2 and DKL3 as well when searching for unused sound effects in those games. I don't think it's used in any game.
  • 22 and 23: Similar to 20 and 21.
  • 28 and 29: Two low-pitched sound effects, somewhat similar to the sound effect in the DKL games when the Kongs get hit, but a bit shorter and quieter.

I haven't played this game very extensively, though, so I could be wrong on some of these. It's also possible that I may have missed some values. --Blaziken257 18:34, 5 January 2013 (EST)
