Krem Coins and that Unused Bonus Room

Here is something I want to either prove or disprove and I don't care which. In this game, I remember that to get to the Lost World, you needed a certain number of Krem Coins. I don't remember how many Krem Coins were needed but lets just say you needed X coins. When I was younger, I could only get X-1 Krem Coins in this game. In other words, I was one coin short of what was needed to enter the Lost World.

I played this game a ton when I was younger. At that time, there was one level I don't ever remember collecting a Krem coin from. It was one of the levels with a roller coaster setting. It was either Target Terror or Rickety Race in Krazy Kremland or Krazy Koaster in Gloomy Gulch... I don't remember which since it has been 10+ years. Being the cheap person I was and fed up searching for the coin, I used cheat codes to get the other Krem Coins to get to the Lost World. My first question is this, is it possible to get to the Lost World by collecting all X coins without cheating? If not then my second question is was that unused bonus room suppose to be the last Krem Coin? Here's to hoping that someone will find the answers to my questions. --Cuber456 01:35, 4 July 2013 (EDT)

Well, on my copy on DKL2, I was able to find all the Kremkoins in all the Roller Coaster levels, so you must have just missed it.Geno2925 06:00, 4 July 2013 (EDT)
Assuming that we have the same versions(US) then that makes sense. I guess the only question for myself is this, WHERE THE HELL IS THAT LAST KREM COIN. Seriously! If I could find that last coin I could put down this 10+ year mystery of mine! What is unfortunate is that I can't seem to find any walkthroughs for where bonus barrels are in the game. I wouldn't mind going through a whole list just to figure it out but if I can't find a list then game over. Oh well..... --Cuber456 07:26, 4 July 2013 (EDT)
You can find out if you're missing a Kremkoin in a level by going to it on the world map. If there is a ! to the right of the level name, you got all the Kremkoins in that level (assuming there are any). If it's not there, that means you're missing at least one. So, go through all the levels and see if there is a missing !.
I do know that K. Rool Duel gives you a Kremkoin if you beat it (which differs from the other boss stages, which simply give you banana coins). Perhaps you didn't beat that? That's the first place that I would look for. If that's not it, then you'll have to search every world and find the level where you're missing a Kremkoin.
Also, there are 47 Kremkoins in this game (not counting the unused bonus level). --Blaziken257 13:07, 4 July 2013 (EDT)
PS: Rickety Race has no bonus stages, so that's the level that you're thinking of. (I wouldn't be surprised if that unused bonus stage was meant to be in that level...) So, you'll see a ! mark as soon as you beat the level, and your missing Kremkoin is obviously somewhere else. --Blaziken257 13:11, 4 July 2013 (EDT)
Yeah, I have the US version to, so yeah. You could always look up the level on You Tube to find videos of people completing them 100%.Geno2925 15:28, 4 July 2013 (EDT)
Oh Blaziken257, you are right. For some reason I hadn't noticed that the "!" was to indicate if you got all of the Krem Coins from a level when I was younger. Apparently I was missing 2 bonus coins, not 1. One of them was from Rattle Battle. Its funny because I thought I had gotten a bonus coin from there. Perhaps I didn't save when I got the Coin. That bonus room is a little cheap in my opinion with Zingers since they get in the way when you are jumping and perhaps that is why I didn't bother getting it again. The other level that is still missing a Krem Coin for me is Glimmer's Galleon. I understand why I missed that coin. When I was younger(and even now...) I hated underwater levels and the fact that it the level would always go pitched black sucked so once I beat the level I never returned to it. Welp I guess it is time to find that missing coin in that level and put this game to rest! Thanks :)!
Geno2925, if I get really stuck I shall youtube it but I am hoping to go and find it on my own :P! --Cuber456 15:45, 4 July 2013 (EDT)

Rareware logo fanfare?

Was taking a look at the GBS for DKL2 today, and I saw that the first track appears to be a 8bit rendition of the Rareware logo intro from the SNES version, DKC2.

However, I never have heard it play in the game. It's the first thing played in this soundtrack video.

Is there something I'm missing here, or does it just not play in the game?

The first track played in that video is used for the level Stronghold Showdown in K. Rool's Keep. --Cuber456 20:41, 21 August 2013 (EDT)
Oh, my bad. I thought it was meant to play at the Rareware logo on the game startup, like the original did. Clovervidia 21:29, 21 August 2013 (EDT)
As a random point, the music also happens to be used in a couple other instances:
  • When making it to the goal in Screech's Sprint
  • When viewing the Cranky's Video Game Heroes screen (after beating K. Rool Duel and Krocodile Kore)
Why it's not used on the Rareware logo screen is anybody's guess. --Blaziken257 12:37, 21 September 2013 (EDT)
Just to clarify what I said previously, this music can be heard from this part of the game. It does not go unused by the game. --Cuber456 (talk)
Whoops, thought that this was unused as well and added it to the Wiki before taking a look at this. My bad. Thanks to whoever removed it. --Daluigi208
Don't worry about it. As Blaziken257 said, why it isn't used for the title screen is a mystery. --Cuber456 (talk)
Still doesn't excuse my ignorance for not checking this page first. Like you said, still VERY odd that Grant made a version of the Rareware Logo for Stronghold Showdown instead of, you know, actually composing a version of Stronghold Showdown. Considering you don't hear Stronghold Showdown's song for that long, he could have easily recomposed that for Land 2 without that taking up too much space on the cart. It makes me wonder if Land 2 was meant to have a Rare logo introduction like the one in Country 2, couldn't pull it off due to possible Gameboy limitations without it looking odd, and Grant decided to go ahead and use the song anyway for Stronghold Showdown when that was dropped.
I also REALLY wonder if Land 2 was meant to have Swanky at one point. Am I the only who finds it a bit odd they use Titular Tableau for the end credits song, yet you only hear it there when it could have been fine for Swanky or the bonus objectives? It feels to me Land 2 wanted to be more of a "port" of Country 2 then it wanted to be a "more original" game. A LOT of the level names are taken directly from Country 2, unlike Land 1 and 3 which had their own original names. Sort of the same with the level design. It feels like they wanted to replicate Country 2's level design the best they could to me knowing Gameboy limitations, while Land 1 and 3 tried to be more original in level design. Dunno if that makes any sense, but the more I look at it, the more it feels as if this game was trying to be a port instead of being more original compared to Land 1 and 3 (The "Diddy's Kong Quest" in the Japanese title, Boss Bossanova intended for normal bosses at one point, names swiped from Country 2, Titular Tableau being in the game when it REALLY wasn't needed, etc.).--Daluigi208
