Name Question

Wasn't the english prototype named "Earthbound zero?" --Dr. Yay 13:52, 31 May 2013 (EDT)

No, it was simply called Earth Bound. The "Zero" was added to some copies of the ROM after it was dumped to distinguish it from the SNES sequel EarthBound. -WarioBarker 14:40, 31 May 2013 (EDT)
Barker ninja'd me, but since I'm here anyway, shouldn't the regional differences section be a prototype article since Earth Bound was never officially released? --Dragonsbrethren 14:48, 31 May 2013 (EDT)
There are many versions of the prototype, most are hacks. One has a white 'Zero' and another has a shaded zero. I don't know if this applies to the same versions, but there is one ROM that has one byte modified. This was done to make it work on the popular emulator at the time called Nesticle. However the anti-piracy message would appear upon viewing text on the ROM. Demiforce released another patch that had an additional byte modified to let the game function properly. The hacks are not TRUE releases but you do see some pirates releasing them.---Chpexo 15:46, 31 May 2013 (EDT)
  • Chpexo: If a prototype is provided for download here, it'd be the official one with the proper bytes changed so it doesn't give the anti-piracy message (apparently, unmodified copies throw up the message most frequently at the Live House, 70% into the game).
Why distribute hacked versions of any good dumps, ever? It's the emulator authors who should make them work with the properly preserved ROMs.--ICEknight 12:16, 5 July 2013 (EDT)

Regional Differences

The regional differences portion of this article already takes up a majority of the page; would it be wise to sever it into a "Regional Differences" subpage? Based on what I've seen on Lost Levels alone, there's enough content and images to make the section as it is twice as large, if not more. --Nksor 23:51, 4 July 2013 (EDT)

Pippi?

If Pippi uses the wrong name bytes, why are we calling her that? --Lilfut 19:26, 10 August 2013 (EDT)

Compare the unused sprite with Pippi's official artwork. Miles of SmashWiki 20:01, 10 August 2013 (EDT)
Ah, okay. That should probably be added to the article. --Lilfut 05:12, 17 August 2013 (EDT)

EarthBound Beginnings

Now that the game has been officially released in the US, could someone download it and check to see if it differs in any meaningful way from the English prototype? N. Onymous (talk) 18:22, 14 June 2015 (EDT)

Speaking of which, I think the title of the page should be changed now. After all, it was given a new official US/EU name. In fact, even if we go by the title screen, the page would be renamed to Earth Bound. --AquaBat (talk) 23:59, 14 June 2015 (EDT)
This title really refers to the previously unreleased NES prototype on Virtual Console, though, not exactly Mother for Famicom. Since that English localization can now be considered a final version, the Proto page can probably instead be regional differences. As for the name: what was the rationale for moving Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels to Super Mario Bros. 2? LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:40, 15 June 2015 (EDT)
That was mostly because there are two different Super Mario Bros. 2s. This is different, this is the same game with a new English title. --AquaBat (talk) 12:55, 15 June 2015 (EDT)
