I need severe help editing this, I suck at wiki's in general. Also, the N64 and PS1 versions each have a unique level.Teraunce

I don't know the game at all, but just a couple of notes:
  • You can sign any comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~)
  • The TCRF wiki usually covers demo versions, prototypes, etc. in a separate article. For this game, that would be Proto:Gex: Deep Cover Gecko (currently a red link, meaning no article exists). At some point that video and other coverage of the demo version will need to be branched over there, but the Bob template and any future content related to final versions of the game will stay here.
  • The wiki sometimes covers different console releases separately (this is why it's basically impossible to specify multiple versions in the Bob template), so this may end up as an article on the PlayStation version specifically, for example. Or, maybe that won't happen. It largely depends on the whims of the editor, but if they're largely the same and have the same unused content, it makes sense for them to share an article. From a quick look at Wikipedia though, it appears some adult content was cut from the Nintendo 64 version. (Also, I just saw your note on your user page about the two versions having a completely different level.) With that in mind, it might deserve its own article in the future, but that can be handled later. If the PSN version is just the PlayStation game bundled with an emulator, it can probably just be covered alongside the PSX version wherever there's content worth noting. If it's a full remake (unlikely, but I don't have a PS3 to check), it may deserve its own article.

PSN releases are usually the PS1 versions wrapped in an emulator, so whatever applies to the disc release may apply to it as well. My suggestion: If you don't know how to write the articles themselves, then document the changes and post them somewhere like Jul (the Wiki's forum). Then someone will eventually take your information and add it to the wiki. // Foxhack 00:45, 23 November 2012 (EST)
They do indeed have 1 different level each. not sure the level number, but I'll post videos in the descrption. either that, or I'll duplicate the article. Teraunce 17:32, 23 November 2012 (EST)

Console Differences

The N64 and PS1 versions each have their own unique take on level 9 of the game: The Mythology Network. The Below Videos are only meant to help people identify level parts. I know Both are LPs. The PS1 version is really hard to find footage of that's of good quality, especially this late in the game. (There's exactly 1 LP I know of that goes past the first warp room.)

PS1 Prototype Footage

+ - investigate:Gex 3 is on several Eidos demo discs (Volume 4 [SLUS-90051], Volume 5 [SLUS-90065] and Volume 6 [SLUS-90074]) so we should comb through and find the important stuff (which is the point of this wiki) (and probably on pages for the demo discs, or on a Proto:Gex 3 page). + - There is demo footage out there showing what a prototype build might have looked like. + -

hank is feeble minded!

In several places throughout the N64 ROM, I found the text 'hank is feeble minded'. It's been a long time since I played through the game, so I figure it's possible this has something to do with the game, but it also seems possible that this is a developer in-joke. If it isn't related to the game, then the PS1 (and maybe even GameBoy) version should be checked for this as well. Below is the output from strings with the associated addresses in the US version.

Seems like there's some way for this text to be displayed in the recently-released prototype. LusitaniaU20 (talk) 18:24, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

Sound Test?

I noticed this page is tagged as having a sound test, but when I went to check it, all I could find were some sound options and a visual debug output based on active sound channels. I was using the PAL version, so I wanted to check to make sure that a sound test is unavailable in all versions before removing the tag from the bob. Demo differences

I've done a compilation of differences between one of the demos and the full game. http://pastebin.com/7W1vNpT7 It's not one of the prototypes mentioned on the main page, so I will eventually look into them for differences (if any). Feel free to make a page for my findings if you wish (I would but I'm not good at wiki editing). --Descension (talk) 10:42, 9 August 2015 (EDT)

Testing area in "Braveheartless"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDgQA8FJQ8A

In the "Braveheartless" level there murals with Gex's face on them. One of them disappears after collecting the Gex Tape to reveal a clock item that adds more time to the timer. There's another mural high in the level, and utilizing a glitch that lags the game and forces Gex to turn invisible and phase through walls, I was able to swim through the air and get behind it. Behind the mural is a small room with a teleport that leads you to an unintended area. Featured in there are an unused texture, an ice fly with an insanely long timer, and spots that transform you into different Gex costumes. Among these costumes are a glitchy space suit, an Indiana Jones outfit (the one from Enter the Gecko) and some sort of Greek one (with unused lines!) that appears to be the one used in the mythology level exclusive to the 64 version. I'd love to explore this hidden room more, but unfortunately, save for a very tiny area, there's no texturing and it's impossible for me to properly understand the layout. Are there tricks in emulators and such that can be used to make this room visible? Could there be anything more to explore in it?

On a side note, is there a known, reliable method to rip voice clips from these games? There's a lot of unused lines across the various versions of Enter the Gecko and Deep Cover Gecko that I would love to explore and document, but PSound only plays the first second of each voice clip and thus isn't reliable.
