Censorship

Probably worth mentioning some of the censorship issues, at least when it caused things to fall through the gaps (the invisible pendant, for example). --Xkeeper 18:01, 24 May 2010 (EDT)

The weird keypad that's leftover from the PC version, too, I'd think. --Flying Omelette 19:17, 24 May 2010 (EDT)
Also, is everyone else aware of how weirdly different the Japanese version looked from the American version? It reminds me of Earthbound Zero... and it has some of the censored elements, like the hallway statue and the skeleton in the basement. --Flying Omelette 19:54, 24 May 2010 (EDT)

Prototype version

There is a prototype version available out there. It turns out that they had to censor a lot of stuff in Maniac Mansion. This website details all the differences between the proto and official release: The Expurgation of Maniac Mansion for the Nintendo Entertainment System -Rolen47 09:17, 26 September 2010 (EDT)

Track 13

Apparently there's this top comment here that mentions it was meant for the ending, allegedly according to one of the composers. I can't find the actual tip from George Sanger though HsienKo 09:27, 27 April 2012 (EDT)

I found another comment that says that the demo tape on George's website is the source but I can't find this alleged demo tape. --Combine (talk) 10:50, 17 June 2014 (EDT)

Capitalization Oddity

It's not much of a mystery really why the text is all capitalized in the game but not in the ROM. All the ports of Maniac Mansion use the same script as the original just running in a ported version of SCUMM. The only times they would have had to touch the text would be to censor some of the dialog, add the CD Player, and the credits. --AndyNPC (talk) 14:21, 17 June 2014 (EDT)

Microwave/Hamster

Though it's constantly said that I'm wrong and such a thing doesn't exist, I owned a copy of this game (US/NTSC) in the early 1990s that did not allow you to microwave Ed's Hamster. Most of the kids would refuse with a generic "Ick!" message, while Syd and Razor would complain that hamsters have too much cholesterol. I no longer have the cartridge having sold it years ago, but I am absolutely positive it existed and it was no a European release (I never owned a European NES of any sort.)

The same cartridge also still had the "Can of Pepsi" item (instead of "Can of Soda") with a numerical code for an sponsored contest tie-in that was abandoned. There may have been other differences but it's been nearly 30 years since I've had access. Perhaps an early version that was changed after release without a change in number? --TheFlynn (talk) 07:39, 10 June 2018 (EDT)

Page renaming

It should be renamed to "Maniac Mansion (NES, International)" as this version was also released in Europe. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Masked Man (talk • contribs)
