MinecraftEdu
Shouldn't MinecraftEdu be in the version differences? It technically is it's own standalone version. --Starz Lol (talk) 23:11, 2 June 2015 (EDT)
Sponge #?
I am going to try to get it. I need the number for it, for a screen shot. Chaossy - The Computer Geek 10:48, 2 November 2012 (EDT)
- It's item #19 it seems. {EspyoT} 12:05, 2 November 2012 (EDT)
Ununsed banner of some sort?
I was snooping around in the resources folder in minecraft pc edition, and under \resources\pe there's this banner titled "humble". Does anyone know if it's used in pc or pocket edition at all? --IGabx 17:38, 22 December 2012 (EST)
- Hmm... it looks like Minecraft was included with the Humble Indie Bundle 3, but I have no idea if the banner was actually used at the time. I guess we'd have to ask someone who got it from there. Either way, I imagine the banner isn't being used any more. --Peardian 16:47, 22 December 2012 (EST)
- Oh I see now, midway through the sale, Minecraft was playable to purchasers until August 14 2011. --IGabx 17:38, 22 December 2012 (EST)
Sponge
Is this section needed? Sponge blocks are used in Creative. --AttackedbyGlitch 22:13, 16 January 2013 (EST)
- Not sure. The fact that they have their old water-detection code in them might be worth noting at least, but not its general presence. --Peardian 18:17, 17 January 2013 (EST)
- Well it doesn't do the water detection. It is a stand-alone block, but I don't know which side to go towards...Chaossy - The Computer Geek 20:12, 17 January 2013 (EST)
- I say leave it for now until something happens with it one way or the other. It's not something that really comes up unless you're actively using it, and we have plenty of things on here that's leftover from previous iterations. It's still under development, so let's see what comes of it. Rick 23:02, 17 January 2013 (EST)
They are obtainable in survival and work as of 1.8. DasJafss 12:43 PM, 12 June 2019 (CST)
Minecraft 2.0
Would it be worth documenting Minecraft 2.0? It was never officially released, and I have the .jars for it. --AttackedbyGlitch 14:36, 16 April 2013 (EDT)
- Minecraft 2.0 was an April Fools joke. However, there is a section for the Locked Chest (which was also an April Fools joke), so I don't see why not. --DevEd (talk) 10:06, 4 October 2013 (EDT)
- But the difference is version 2.0 was a separate (joke) version, whereas the Locked Chests were included in a legitimate update. --Peardian (talk) 11:58, 4 October 2013 (EDT)
- There was a private update made for some individuals and that link was leaked. A̳͔̬r̝̳̙̦̙̻ͪ͗̌̃ͬ̚r̠̮̰̲̞͓̙ͥ̐̐ͦ͋r̦̲̣͊͊͂͗ǎ͓̠̳n̖̼̩̮̲̄͐̃ͬ̌̅̋ ̆Ẉ̹̊ė͔̻̭̗͊̿ͨ̂e̼̗̪̳̤̺͊v̗͔̎i̳͉̳̋ͬl̬̠͉̟̯ͦ̓͆ͭ͌̆i͙̺̲͎̫͐̔̎͌̂͜n̡̹̬̦͉̈̑̒g̥̜ (klaT) 12:26, 15 January 2014 (EST)
- But the difference is version 2.0 was a separate (joke) version, whereas the Locked Chests were included in a legitimate update. --Peardian (talk) 11:58, 4 October 2013 (EDT)
Spider Jockey Behavior
Does the Wither Skeleton on Spider behavior replace the regular Skeleton behavior? Or does it just go alongside it? --Dr. Yay 11:53, 19 June 2013 (EDT)
- Spider Jockeys use the same AI as spiders, the skeleton doesn't affect the behavior of the spider. --The Quirky Quark (talk) 04:43, 19 January 2014 (EST)
calm4.ogg
Do you think we should add a media player for this and document it? It was a test track made by Notch and it would play in early Alpha. I have a download for the file. --rcgaming 12:10, January 13th 2014)
- I'd say it is notable, as it was removed, but if downloaded still plays. I've seen it too; it is interesting and probably worth mentioning. --Pokechu22 (talk) 14:08, 18 May 2014 (EDT)
Unused Sound: SuccesfulHit is used
SuccesfulHit is used, it plays when you hit someone with an arrow.

Version Differences
I would be happy to lay out the differences between each version, but what would be the best way to go about it? Make another sub-page, or incorporate it in to the new one, and how exactly would you lay it out in terms of: Start with the first builds, and work up or what? --Signed: Vectrex (talk) 20:57, 15 April 2014 (EDT)
Pocket Edition Camera
I know the camera has already been mentioned, but I have the latest update for PE and it just appears as an egg in the inventory and blank when it's actually placed (aside from a roughly circle-shaped shadow, I assume). Strange... Shouldn't this be added to the PE section? Also, anyone want/need screenshots there too? I could supply some if anyone wants. The best I can get with the new update is the shadow-and-egg thing, though. --Signed: IGabx (talk) 0:31, 15 May 2014 (EDT)
Chain mail recipe with fire
According to the Minecraft wiki, Chain Mail armor (which was unavailable in-game for a long time but is now available from mobs) is craftable using fire blocks in the inventory. However, one cannot obtain fire blocks in normal gameplay. Should this be added to the article? --Pokechu22 (talk) 16:17, 13 August 2014 (EDT)
Old Versions and Article Organization
We really need to organize this article better so we can properly document unused things that were added and removed in each version. We should never have to remove something from the article just because it was removed from the game (e.g. the Pigman skin). Isn't the point of this wiki to document things that were never used? --BMF54123 22:35, 3 August 2013 (EDT)
- Moving this down and expanding on it in hopes that someone notices. I think for constantly-evolving games like this, we need to split the article up into multiple sections based on version number, and then document what unused content was added and removed in each version. --BMF54123 (talk) 17:26, 8 September 2014 (EDT)
Minecraft for Xbox 360
I just extracted the files for Minecraft on the Xbox 360. Would anybody like them? --Thetumb1rmudkip (talk) 13:25, 28 September 2014 (EDT)
Debug Menu questions
In minecraft, there is a pretty well-known debug menu if you press F3, and it shows you lots of different stats and in-game variables. Because it IS a debug menu, should I add it in? --Lloyddeg (talk) 21:33, 15 January 2015 (EST)
- No. It's one of the most well-known features of Minecraft, and it doesn't break the game like most debug menus in video games. --Starz Lol (talk) 23:11, 2 June 2015 (EDT)
Should the Console and Pocket editions be documented as individual games?
I feel that they are different enough to warrant their own articles. They are developed specifically for the devices they are released on and are technically separate games. There are also TONS of features unique to each individual edition. --piber20 (talk) 06:46, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
I second this idea, given the differences between them. --TGlitschen (talk) 07:22, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
Wither Jockey Model
Is it me or is my newly uploaded Wither Jockey render (I Zealously cropped it) not displaying on the page? I refreshed my cache but it's not showing up at all. Also that "render" seems edited because it has a shadow effect. Is that allowed here? --Cheddarandchocolate (talk) 00:39, 22 July 2016 (EDT)
Should I write the revisions?
Should I write the revisions for Minecraft Pre-Classic all the way into 1.10? I will make the page if enough people like the idea. --Professor64 (talk) 04:30, 23 September 2016 (EDT)
- Sounds reasonable. I see you already created the proto page for early versions; use that for versions up until 1.0; past that, use a revision differences subpage. -Phrossi (talk) 11:40, 23 September 2016 (EDT)
- 1.0 and above also have prototypes known as Snapshots, hence why I added them. --Professor64 (talk) 10:05, 24 September 2016 (EDT)
Green Villager section needs to be removed on 1.11's release
The Green Villagers are no longer unused in the 1.11 update. --Starz Lol (talk) 01:53, 20 November 2016 (EST)
Unused Sound: Pling.ogg
There's an unused sound for noteblocks thats still in game called Pling.ogg
Should this article be renamed to Java Edition, turning the Pocket Edition page into just Minecraft?
This fall, Microsoft is releasing an update to Pocket Edition and Windows 10 Edition known as the Better Together Update, or, 1.2. It allows Console Edition players on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch (maybe PS4) to play with Pocket and Windows 10 players. This update will rename the main computer version of Minecraft for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux to Minecraft: Java Edition and will rename the Pocket, Windows 10, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch Editions (PS4 isn't confirmed yet) to just one name: Minecraft. I feel that the articles on TCRF should be renamed accordingly. -MisterSheep (talk)
Lost Versions
I run a community called Omniarchive, dedicated to archiving all versions of the game. You can see our progress here, which includes information on how to access the archive.
HalfOfAKebab (talk) 17:26, 9 April 2018 (EDT)
Can we just leave the creator as Hatsune Miku?
It doesn't break the guidelines, after all. I think it would be fine to leave it in
Flux3on (talk) 14:16, 10 July 2019 (EDT)
some version differences
I'm going to make this quick. I'm documenting some info here so that I or someone else can work on properly documenting them later.
- The "missingno" easter egg appears to have been removed from 1.14; it now just doesn't display any splashes if the splashes.txt contains nothing
- In versions after 1.12.2, the localization files have been rewritten to use JSON instead.
1.12.2 | 1.13 |
---|---|
language.name=English language.region=United States language.code=en_us |
"language.name": "English", "language.region": "United States", "language.code": "en_us", |
- Literally nobody has seemingly bothered to document the Twitch integration that used to be a thing and now isn't. I used to use it back in around 2015 and was slightly disappointed to see it removed.
- Super Secret Settings used to be an option in the options menu but got removed in 1.9.
- Versions 1.12.2 and below have a bug where if they receive a chat message that is more than 32767 bytes long, they automatically disconnect
- Wools used to be less colorful in earlier versions of the game
- Terracotta used to be called "Stained Clay" in earlier versions of the game
- Stone slabs from previous versions of the game are now called "smooth stone slabs" as of 1.14
- The panorama background has changed twice in versions 1.13 and 1.14.
- Achievements are now called "advancements" as of 1.12.
- April Fools 2014 changed everyone's skins to villagers and replaced the default audio tracks with "The Element Animation Villager Sounds Resource Pack".
- April Fools 2018 changed the default resource pack to one that replaced the textures with extremely low quality variants.

should i put a screenshot for the server anti-piracy?
i play cracked minecraft so i can get a screenshot from a server that is premium-only. -JumpybugRebound (talk) 18:31, 11 December 2019 (EST)
- Isn't it just the "Invalid Session" message? Video (talk) 18:55, 11 December 2019 (EST)
- Yeah, but tcrf likes screenshots of messages as they appear in game -JumpybugRebound (talk) 21:16, 11 December 2019 (EST)
unused barrel textures and axolotl textures
idk if they are are fake or not, check the assets, i have seen them in vids tho BrewmasterLo (talk)
Easter eggs
Easter eggs are now listed as one of the things not to include, so they should probably be removed from the page, or moved under Removed Content if they no longer exist in current versions. - Luke18033 (talk) 22:10, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
unused rooms
there's a room in the game's files for woodland mansions that is unused. can be summoned with structure blocks under the name woodland_mansion/1x1_b5. doesnt generate due to this bug https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-240121 . cant generate naturally in any version of the game. has an unused loot table too for the chest. there's probably other similarly unused stuff. i believe shepherd houses in tundra villages never generate either, and since it's the only villager house to use the shepherd chest loot, that's unused too. sorry if dumb - Copyleft (talk)
Some warning I found in the files.
I was looking at the index file for minecraft for minecraft pre-1.6.json
At: %appdata%\.minecraft\assets\indexes\pre-1.6.json
There is a index called READ_ME_I_AM_VERY_IMPORTANT.
It points to %appdata%\.minecraft\assets\objects\0d\0d000710b71ca9aafabd8f587768431d0b560b32
I think you need Minecraft pre-1.6 installed to see this message.
It says this:
_ _ ___ ______ _ _ _____ _ _ _____ | | | |/ _ \ | ___ \ \ | |_ _| \ | | __ \ | | | / /_\ \| |_/ / \| | | | | \| | | \/ | |/\| | _ || /| . ` | | | | . ` | | __ \ /\ / | | || |\ \| |\ |_| |_| |\ | |_\ \ \/ \/\_| |_/\_| \_\_| \_/\___/\_| \_/\____/ (Sorry about the cheesy 90s ASCII art.) Everything in this folder that does not belong here will be deleted. This folder will be kept sync with the Launcher at every run.
