iQue DS

I just checked it Nintendo DSi runs iQue DS Games.--C lector 04:41, 15 March 2016 (EDT)

Back light revisions

I actually had imported a graphite black DS phat years ago, and it had the different light levels supported. Granted, I could only change the light settings through my SuperCard DS, but still, the system was still capable of four distinct light levels, and it wasn't a DSlite. The revision section should be rewritten so that it isn't so wrongly... wrong.--Celice 03:34, 1 November 2012 (EDT)

Yeah, you're right, but I think the page really just meant the capability from the software level was changed between revisions. It's worth adding though that the original could in fact support levels of backlight though the OS didn't allow it. WhoIAm 03:59, 1 November 2012 (EDT)

DS(i)?

Will the DSi be covered in this article? Or will it be a different article? Chaossy - The Computer Geek 08:04, 1 November 2012 (EDT)

  • Is there any unused stuff/regional differences that's specific to the DSi/DsiWare/DSi XL? If no, it won't be covered. AFAIK, it can't be included in this article, as there are huge firmware differences between it an that of the regular DS. Montas1992 12:07, 1 November 2012 (EDT)

I'm pretty sure DSi like 3DS has more firmware differences between regions than the DS did. Of course with few of us owning Japanese, Chinese, or Korean versions of any model, it's tougher to get accurate info.Theclaw 11:50, 23 November 2012 (EST)

Japanese and Korean regular DS models are well-known for having no language select (locked to their local language), so it should be the same with the DSi (where this is the case in all regions). The real problem is getting info about the Chinese iQue model: there is the iQue DS, iQue DSi, and iQue 3DS (aside from the original iQue, i.e. Nintendo 64). Do they play non-Chinese games? If yes, which language do they get by default, since they do not have a language select? The only thing I'm sure about (because I tried it) is that Chinese games won't work on non-Chinese consoles, and according to official sources, that all 3DS consoles play Chinese DS games. We need answers for these questions, which are pretty interesting (did you know the iQue version of Zelda OoT was the GC version with the old Gerudo crescent logo... and with a game-breaking glitch in the statue room?)

You should know by this point that DSi mode hasn't been hacked yet, neither emulated (the few DSi games emulated right now are the ones who have a regular DS compatibility mode alongside the DSi enhanced mode). So finding unused DSi-specific stuff shouldn't be as easy as it sounds. Even for regional differences, for starters, we must first get the DSi bios to show up on an emulator, to get screenshots. Montas1992 12:12, 23 November 2012 (EST)

Well Japanese DS lite has a language select. I'm not yet sure about the first DS. Unfortunately I don't read Japanese to gather much from the manual, but here it is. [1] Theclaw 13:12, 23 November 2012 (EST)

I've dug into it further. Chinese and Korean regular DS models do also have a language select. Theclaw 07:06, 5 May 2013 (EDT)

Pokemon Platinum DEBUG button

In the intro of Pokemon Platinum (Maybe Diamond and Pearl), where you get asked to touch the center of the touch screen, you can press any other button and you will get a message saying that's not right. This also applies to the DEBUG button. --Dr. Yay 22:35, 4 May 2013 (EDT)

Golden Sun Dark Dawn - DEBUG button

In Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, pressing the DEBUG button anywhere except at the very beginning (when the Nintendo/Camelot logos are shown) has the same function as soft-resetting. --Cronus 13:42, 4 June 2013 (EDT)

High Resolution Emulator Screenshots

Would it be a good idea to include 2x or 4x resolution screens for DS games? These could prove useful for finding detail in unused maps in for example Mario Kart DS. MetalKnick (talk) 14:39, 30 May 2014 (EDT)

We're not interested in high-resolution shots unless they specifically reveal something that cannot ordinarily be seen in-game. --BMF54123 (talk) 14:42, 30 May 2014 (EDT)

The World Ends with You DEBUG button

In The World Ends With You holding the Debug button during the initialization process of the game causes the spinning icon to disappear. Really strange to be honest, so I'll be sure to do further testing --MrU (talk) 19:26, 5 July 2015 (EDT)

Super Princess Peach DEBUG button

At least one of the versions of Super Princess Peach contains a text or .c file if you extract the ROM. It's been a while but it stands out in my memory for having uncompiled code referencing all of the buttons including a DEBUG button. It's worth looking into. --Heran Bago (talk) 12:49, 4 May 2016 (EDT)

"Unlike the Game Boy Advance, the DS wasn't more powerful than the console it was based on, the Nintendo 64."

Whoah! Slow down there. The Game Boy Advance did NOT have the same amount of power on the console it was based on (SNES). Source: Go compare Super Mario World to the GBA remake and you can see it from a mile off. The colours are extremely "washed" and the sound quality, meh.

Just have to ask who on earth wrote that, because they clearly haven't played the GBA remake before.

Anyway, off topic, props to you guys, this is the only reason why I registered (to say that!) and hope you all have a good day werevever you are.

Peace. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Marccram (talk • contribs)

Just because the graphics in some games are washed out to counteract the bad LCD, doesn't mean the console isn't more powerful. GBA doesn't need enhancement chips to pull off 3D unlike the Super NES, and it doesn't use a DSP to produce audio either. Not even the Mega Drive with its faster 8 megahertz 68000 could pull off software-based audio simultaneously with gameplay. The Super NES has a 3 megahertz 65c816. Nintendo 3DS Simple Start button defunct?

At the end of the "Wi-Fi Simple Start Mode" section, it mentions the button working in the Nintendo 3DS. I am assuming this means the "Manual Setup" internet connection screen in the System Settings application. I offset the touch-screen, but it doesn't work. --SuperRed38 (talk) 13:32, 26 July 2017 (EDT)

L+R+Start+Select = DEBUG Button?

In press L+R+Start+Select in Super Mario 64 DS and Mario Kart DS, the game return to the title screen. Can you check that it does the same thing with the DEBUG button?

Considering it's intentionally in games like Pokémon and WarioWare D.I.Y (even explicitly mentioned in that game's tutorial), I don't really think it's a debug function. Stomped Goomba SMM unused Small Mario hipdrop SMB3.png 09:19, 17 December 2017 (EST)
