Emulator

Does the MADE BY NAMCO easter egg work in emulators? Or does it only work on arcade machines? I tried to do this trick on RetroUprising but it didn't work. Arthur1124 (talk) 01:08, 19 December 2015 (EST)

Yes, it works in emulators. That's how the screenshot was taken. -Einstein95 (talk) 01:21, 19 December 2015 (EST)
Well, I tried to do this trick on RetroUprising but it only showed the grid while switching back and forth while holding the buttons, and after I've attempted many times, the grid is stuck and I keep switching arcade machine menus on and off to get it back but it's no use, so I canNOT play Pac-Man on RetroUprising anymore... Have you heard about our lord and saviour the emulator called MAME. -Einstein95 (talk) 09:35, 19 December 2015 (EST)
Yes, I have. I realized RetroUprising uses MAME emulators. I just cannot fix the stuck grid. It will stay like this forever and ever. Arthur1124 (talk) 11:29, 20 December 2015 (EST)

Hard Mode?

So the Arcade Archives release of Pac-Man just came out, and I noticed one of the options it has is an option to enable a supposedly-hidden "Hard mode". The setting to enable it mentions it being possible on the original arcade boards, however it was NOT described within the manual given to operators, and I've never seen a hard mode option in Pac-Man acknowledged anywhere else until now. I wonder, could it be added to this page? I know it is technically not unused content, but it is "hidden" content, and considering some other pages cover similar "hidden" material that actually IS mentioned in the official manuals (the "suicide cheat" for SMB2 in Super Mario All-Stars is one such example), I think it'd make sense to add here, assuming one can verify the hard mode does indeed exist on the original arcade board. - Geno2925 (talk) 16:18, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

This actually is fairly well documented - for one, yes, it is described in the manual (see page 69, "instructions for modification of Pac-Man game PCB"). It's also been supported as part of the DIP switch settings in MAME's pacman driver ever since the very first release of MAME 0.1 in 1997. --Revenant (talk) 16:41, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
Ah, okay. Wonder why the ACA release says it wasn't in there? Unless it was only absent from the Japanese manual, considering that scan is of the North American version released by Midway, and since the ACA re-release only covers the Japanese version, they might have forgotten it? - Geno2925 (talk) 20:23, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
It's possible. The Japanese "Puck-Man" PCB also has an additional jumper for the alternate ghost names and I don't remember if that was officially documented anywhere or not. --Revenant (talk) 21:17, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

Spinning Pac-Man Plus off into its own page?

I was at Best Buy the other day and they had an Arcade 1Up Pac-Man machine set up, so I went to play Pac-Man Plus and noticed the soda can had its logo removed (likely to avoid legal issues from Coca-Cola). I went to add it here on the wiki but Pac-Man Plus is lumped in with the original Pac-Man. Can we spin it off into its own page? --Supernintendo64 (talk) 03:47, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
