German Translation

I speak German fluently. If you need my help translating, just ask. --Sketch 20:09, 27 December 2011 (EST)

Team Rocket Theme

While going through the sound test, I found that there is no entry for the Team Rocket Theme found in the final (albeit unused), is the sound still in the ROM? Every other unused theme is there, just not the Team Rocket theme. Is this worth mentioning? --DarkLeach7 00:15, 8 August 2012 (PST)

This song

"350 - TETSUJI - Seems to be some variant of theme that's used in Littleroot Town.". This wouldn't happen to be the "Littleroot Town Test Theme (Weird Loop)" listed at Pokémon_Ruby_and_Sapphire#Unused_Music, would it? Yamiidenryuu 13:33, 5 January 2013 (EST)

Translation Patch

A while back I was working on a English patch, I've have even made a video about it.

Some stuff I got when I was playing around with this on hardware

So today, I got a secondary GBA, which I can now link to my GBA SP. I found out some fun little things in regards to some link functionality with the game, some things idk whether people found here or not (And this is all tested on authentic GBA hardware, not an emulator).

1. The Mimic e-Card function seems to be region-locked, no surprises there. I can't get it to work properly with my USA version of Ruby. The game detects the debugger simulated e-Card, however, the debugger Ruby doesn't detect the connecting game, so I don't get to choose what gift to send over, and subsequently, when I press A to receive the gift, I get a connection error, which leads me to my second point.

2. It seems there are debugging error codes in the connection error screens. Near the bottom-left, when one encounters a link error, there is a code there in the format XXXXXXXX XX XX. I don't know what they mean at this point in time, however, I do have an error code from when I tried linking and testing the Mimic e-Card menu: 00040349 00 00. Not sure what it does, though. And on the topic of linking, this brings me to my third and final point.

3. When establishing a link with another player, an overlay similar to the LINK Test2 menu shows up on the screen. Again, since I'm using hardware, I don't know what any of it means, but it's more than just a bunch of zeros and the letter z (Like, there's actual information there!). I've only tested it with Link Battling, and I found a few interesting things in there. First of all, the R+Start menu is disabled in the link room (Probably to prevent transmission bugs and errors), and as well, if one uses the R+Select instant victory shortcut, both players will receive a link error.

4. Oh, also, the TAMADA option, when run, seems to do something to the screen (idk what) and makes it go black (cleared by refreshing the screen), just as it plays the sound effect. I'm not sure what it's doing, but it certainly doesn't do that on an emulator.

Anyways, I'll probably add more here in regards to linking via hardware in the next bit. --Team Fail (talk) 21:09, 23 April 2014 (EDT)

Date String and Changes from Final

So looking at the string mentioned in the article

"$Name: debug-Euro-2003-05-09-A $"

I think we can infer that this debug cart's build date is May 9th, 2003, and it is specifically for the European version. It's possible the other characters symbolize that this is the German version. This date is actually AFTER the Japanese, American, and Australian releases of the game, but predates the European release by about 10 weeks. Given the time of 10 weeks, I think we can assume that this prototype was likely made to test out the translation integration, fix and minor bugs, or make slight refinements/improvements to the game, much like the case with Mother 1's intended localization. So we're likely not gonna see any huge differences in the game.

Additionally, I've played through much of this Prototype (I got up to the Elite 4 without making any use of the debug features to skip ahead) and I honestly haven't noticed any huge differences from the game (though I'm not German so idk if there's any script differences). A couple more minor things I did notice were

1. The ledge tile at Victory Road has indeed been removed at this point

2. For whatever reason, the Revival Herb does not work as intended. It might be because of the English patch I used, but strangely it revives Pokemon to half HP, when I'm pretty sure it should do it to full HP. Perhaps this minor bug was fixed later on?

But basically, I think most of the differences could be found by comparing the script of this prototype with the script of the final German game --MrU (talk) 19:56, 12 August 2015 (EDT)

I checked the item data, and Revival Herb does only heal to half HP—not just in this debug ROM, but in all released versions of Ruby and Sapphire. (Apparently Bulbapedia doesn’t know everything.) It was changed to heal all HP in FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald. —Háčky (talk) 22:40, 12 August 2015 (EDT)
Oof, my bad then ^^` So I guess we can thus assume, at least from my casual eyes, that this prototype is identical to the final game, save for the enabled debug tools and some possible changes to the script--MrU (talk) 21:42, 13 August 2015 (EDT)
