Virtual Console stuff moved here from the main page:

The Virtual Console version of the game includes a plaintext ASM patch - complete with developer comments in Japanese - that is applied to the game in real-time. The patch does a whole lot of things!

  • Reduces the severity of flashing colours to reduce the dangers of epilepsy
  • "EU Only Hang Patch"
  • Battle search fix
  • JP maps - allows Life Ring & Right of Hope to be obtained, copious hex editing involved)
  • Fixes to JARO and TALOS names
  • Kiwi breath fix
  • Caravan item repair bug fix
  • Slight dialogue changes
  • Stats are now three digits instead of two

Game Completed

About the only use I've ever been able to find for the Game Completed option is related to the ability to rename the playable characters. Since that's only possible after one of the files has completed the game, the debug option is just a quicker way to gain access. -- Wxbryant 18:45, 23 February 2011 (EST)

JARO's Battle Sprite Palette

The game does have a unique palette just for Jaro when he's an enemy but I don't currently have any save files right before that stage to check if its possible to get him into a battle scene (thus loading the palette) before he's programmed to defect. -- Abaxa 19:27, 30 March 2011 (EDT)

Identify this portrait

I figure this is as good a place as any to ask. I've seen this guy in the graphics multiple times but I don't remember him from the game (though I haven't played it in almost a decade):

In Moun, there's an NPC that will offer to paint a portrait of Bowie. If you agree and then examine their work afterwards, you're treated to that image. Wxbryant 01:01, 31 March 2011 (EDT)
What Wxbryant said, plus at least as far as The Caravan is concerned there are 3 exact duplicates of that file probably left in as space-filler. Some other duplicate things include:
8 of the spell icons appear as blank templates. These are actually assigned and functional but since they belong to spells the player is never supposed to "know" no graphics were drawn over the templates.
There's a duplicate sprite for King Granseal (sprites 188 & 203). It might technically be used since I only checked to see if it matched the sprite he uses at the beginning of the game. For example it could potentially be his NPC sprite in battle.
Tons of tile chipsets were duplicated including tiles that didn't make it into any maps. It's on my to-do list but it, along with checking all the sprites and their various poses, is a tedious process.
{There are also 2 unused stat growth tables if memory serves me that are also just filler.) -- Abaxa 05:34, 31 March 2011 (EDT)
Just to update (several years later) I did find that the duplicate sprite for King Granseal is assigned to the king of Desktop Kingdom. I guess someone wanted a custom sprite for him and copy-pasted Granseal to hold the spot but no one ever got back to it.
Some other stuff: the original Japanese version does not have icons for the attack, haste, and slow status effects in character stat windows. It also displays a 0% land effect for ground units in desert terrain. This was not changed until after the April localization prototype. --Abaxa

I think that this line is actually used

Number 0DB8: "A statue of a fierce devil's head. There's a slit at its mouth." I just beat a game and I remembered seeing this message. I got the Force Sword and went back to check on statue of devil head. I think that I used A button -> Search command instead of just C button. I am not hacker and don't have save game with needed requirement so can't recheck myself without going through the game again. Foxysen (talk) 02:54, 16 August 2017 (EDT)
