Spelunker influence (none)

In Derek Yuu's book about the game's design he never once mentions Spelunker. It took a lot of influences from a lot of varying arcade-style games and themes, such as Bubble Bobble's Ghost. Yuu claims that the title came well into the games development based on the theme of spelunking. I know it seems obvious at a first glace, but is there any source that mentions Spelunker as an influence or something the game is based on? The games are really dissimilar aside from some visual elements.

The book is really good though! It doesn't go into very much in terms of unused or cut content, but I'd like to summarize the cut game modes in the HD release. --Heran Bago (talk) 13:58, 18 May 2016 (EDT)

I agree with you. I've also read the Spelunky book and found no mention of Spelunker. I'm going to remove the claim that Spelunky is based on Spelunker.
The book has this to say about the game's title, in the chapter "EXPLORER.GMK" on page 29:

The name Spelunky is a reference to caving, also known as "spelunking." Originally, it wasn't intended to be the game's final name—I just needed a more interesting filename than "explorer" for a preview screenshot I posted online. It was another indie developer, Phil Fish, who made me consider it again when he replied, "Spelunky, huh? I like it." Looking back, it's uncertain whether he meant that the liked the name or the screenshot, but I took it as the former.
