v1.01 Tool Unlocking

neogaf suggests that the unlocking of the special items is actually tied more to actual activity in the game rather than a 15 minute block The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jurai (talk • contribs)

Yeah, it took longer than 15 minutes to unlock my first tool set. -Ehm (talk) 16:18, 11 September 2015 (EDT)
In v1.01, you need to spend at least five minutes in the editor (playing the stage does not count) and use all new tools marked with an exclamation point (!) to queue the next delivery. Once this happens, you can just spam the level with a large number of objects to get the delivery immediately. Lather, rinse, repeat, and you'll have everything unlocked within an hour or so. Personally confirmed this last night, and updated the article accordingly. --BMF54123 (talk) 23:30, 13 September 2015 (EDT)

R.O.B costume

Just like in other games, R.O.B has a different colour palette, depending on the region. Check this. --ComJay (talk) 19:09, 13 September 2015 (EDT)

Amiibos are not region locked, so both versions of the R.O.B. Amiibo can be used, are you sure only one costume can be unlocked in the different regions? --AquaBat (talk) 21:52, 13 September 2015 (EDT)
Does each version of the R.O.B. Amiibo actually have a unique internal ID? --BMF54123 (talk) 23:34, 13 September 2015 (EDT)
The R.O.B. amiibo isn't release anywhere yet, but it's possible. All the Yarn Yoshi amiibo variants apparently have unique IDs because they unlock their corresponding colors in the game. We'll just have to wait until the things are actually released and tested. --Rabidabid (talk) 23:43, 13 September 2015 (EDT)

Possible Unused SMB1 Sprites??

This sheet on TSR has all the SMB1 enemy sprites, but a few of them seem unusual/possibly unused. Now, I don't quite have the game just yet, but I'm sure some of these are not used, like the unusual Boo sprites on that sheet underneath the "normal" Stretch, the alternate non-animated "luigified" cannon ball, and a graphic of Big Steely (the bowling balls) from SMW! (As far as I know, Bowser can't drop the bowling balls in this game, though I could be wrong??)-Geno2925 (talk) 17:44, 14 September 2015 (EDT)

I have the game, I'm looking into these now. The Boo sprites that appear to be coming out of the ground are used when they're walking on a floor, but I'm not sure about the ones directly below them. The Mario variants of those look temporary, so we may have something here - perhaps a leftover since the Boo sprite must have been created for SMM? Blue-grey variants are used in the castle theme. All the weird/moustache/Luigi variants are for the Mega Mushroom amiibo thing, although I'm not sure where the Mario Clown Car is from. I'm not sure which cannonball variant you mean, but it seems that Bullet Bills and cannonballs get cruelly replaced by Luigi and Toad (the red homing variants) for the Mega Mushroom effect. I'm not sure which is Big Steely, is that in a different sheet? Unless you mean the moustached Bob-Ombs… Whizzer0 (talk) 10:11, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
Okay, I've done some investigating with the Big Mushroom effects. The Kamek riding Bowser sprites are used when Bowser is falling into lava whilst the effects are on, showing that the Peach that was previously there was fake. I don't know why Bowser has a sprite for Peach on him but with no moustache. It may or may not be used. Can't seem to find if the Mario Clown Car is used; it may not be as only the moustache variant seems to be used by the Big Mushroom. I don't know what that green bubble is but I'm guessing it's just something I haven't encountered yet. Whizzer0 (talk) 10:36, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
Okay, I put together a quick sheet of just the graphics I think are unused, from all the SMB1 and SMB3 sheets on TSR. Most notable ones are those weird rough Stretch sprites, which there's also one frame of a SMB3 version, a copy of lanky Mario's standing sprite, but with a yellow dot on his chest, a blue mustachioed Goomba, the original SMB1 Bowser bridge, which is actually in every tileset EXCEPT the castle, a copy of SMB1 Fire Mario's flagpole pose, but moved to the bottom of the image, and sliding sprites for all the SMB3 Mario forms (that are in the game)! Also, btw, I do have the game now, and I knew about Stretch, just not how to use him, thank. And also also btw, that green ball is Big Steely.-Geno2925 (talk) 20:25, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
The small pipe is used by Big Mushroom stiletto Goombas. Those blue-grey moustached Goombas look like they'd be used for the Underground, Castle or Ghost House themes, are they not? And I'm not quite sure what you meant by the bridge unless it uses a different sprite in the game. Same for the jumping SMB3 sprites, aren't they used? Otherwise, these all don't seem to be in the game. Whizzer0 (talk) 12:15, 16 September 2015 (EDT)
Just to fill in on some of those thoughts, those SMB3 "jumping" sprites actually have a slight difference compared to the actual jumping sprites used in-game, namely his foot being raised up a bit higher, and are named "wall_kick" in the sprite files. Similarly, the sliding sprites are named "hipdrop". The brick and mini-pipe sprites are indeed the replacements for the shoes when you get the Big/Mega Mushroom, and the Big Steely's also only in the alternate Koopa Copter's archive and nowhere else (not even for the other styles). --RandomTBush (talk) 12:41, 16 September 2015 (EDT)
Thank you, kind ripper. I guess we may as well start noting these now. Whizzer0 (talk) 12:45, 16 September 2015 (EDT)
What about the crouching SMB1 mario sprite? The one for amiibo mario is used, but the classic mario shows a crouching one, too. --MariowiiX (talk) 00:17, 27 September 2015 (EDT)
If the exit to a level is blocked off, Mario will turn around and crouch on completion and I'm pretty sure this happens regardless of Mario's status - so the crouching sprite is used. On regards to sliding sprites, we need to be careful as the sprites for Mario (potentially) sliding look very similar to Mario clinging to the flagpole. Obviously, SMB3 doesn't have a flagpole so it's worth noting for that regardless. Whizzer0 (talk) 12:47, 27 September 2015 (EDT)
I have the actual game, and this doesn't happen. Besides, if it did, why would they use it only in a simple animation for completing a level and NOT use it during the level?--MariowiiX (talk) 02:02, 28 September 2015 (EDT)
Checked again, it doesn't happen for Small Mario, but you can crouch with Big Mario and, as far as I can tell, he uses the same sprites. Whizzer0 (talk) 14:32, 28 September 2015 (EDT)

Other Regional Differences

Apparently, the message on the loading screen on Sunday differs in the PAL versions saying "Today is Sunday" instead of "Happy Sunday!". Should this be added on the page? --8SomaCruzes (talk) 07:12, 28 September 2015 (EDT)

It's a regional difference so go ahead. --Termingamer2-JD (talk) 09:37, 27 October 2015 (EDT)

What can't I do?

I want to add this to the main article:

Hmmm...
To do:
Unused graphics from other themes.

But I'm not sure if this is allowed to be on the article. Can someone let me know if it is allowed? The preceding unsigned comment was added by MegaCDFan235 (talk • contribs)

  1. You're welcome to - it's a free wiki, after all - although I think that might be redundant with the todo already there. Speaking of which, I'm back from holiday, so I'll try to finish adding the info we've gathered today or at some point next week. Whizzer0 (talk) 03:55, 25 October 2015 (EDT)

Regarding the prerelease

Does anyone know if you could wall jump/ground pound in the Super Mario Bros. theme in the E3 demo? I recall it being more like NSMBU but can't remember if this was the case... Whizzer0 (talk) 09:10, 30 October 2015 (EDT)

That's 87 voice clips in all. I hope somebody finds this useful. — NES Boy (talk) 01:48, 3 November 2015 (EST)

I believe all of those listed are used, even the power-up versions of Mario. --Peardian (talk) 00:13, 4 November 2015 (EST)
Unless I'm mistaken, that's the point. It's a list of voice clips that can be heard so that if at unused one is found, we can check. whizzer0 (talk) 12:03, 4 November 2015 (EST)
Oh, my mistake. I see that now. --Peardian (talk) 20:13, 4 November 2015 (EST)
Hey, I think I've found a regional difference. In the European version, which I have, I'm sure it says "Kamek", not "Magikoopa". Can anyone else confirm this? whizzer0 (talk) 14:22, 5 November 2015 (EST)

Just a heads up

The Dec. 22nd update is going to change the P-Switch graphics for the Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros. U game styles. I have two images showing this. — NES Boy (talk) 01:27, 20 December 2015 (EST)

"Unused" Beach Koopa sprites

The "unused" Beach Koopa sprites do get used in the final game, although you'll only encounter them in very rare circumstances. If a Beach Koopa comes across an upside-down shell it will kick it right-up before entering it. Just hit a shell while it's on a turn or question block and then drop it in front of a Beach Koopa. This also happens in the original SMW. Vertette (talk) 17:01, 18 January 2016 (EST)

About the 1406 Idea Booklet code not being used...

The 1406 code IS used. It's located on page 72 on the pipe Lakitu is carrying, it's upside-down. Whoever put that in the to do, please take it out and look on the page I said. -Francofantino (talk) 09:36, 6 March 2016 (EST)

Unobtainable Costumes

With 100 Mario Challenge now being unplayable without Pretendo Network or this alternative method it's impossible to obtain most costumes. Some were also tied to discontinued Event Courses. There's a lot to add... FlareGamer64 (talk) 12:31, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
