I found that pressing the "Alt" key will freeze everything but the music, should we put this on the page? --Dr. Yay 14:19, 1 August 2013 (EDT)
- That's nowhere near close to being an unused feature. I think SMB was made in Flash, and most, if not all Flash games have a menu that pops up when you press Alt. Even other things that don't have menus freeze when Alt is pressed, and (after you press the arrow keys) just act the same as if you click the icon on the top-left of the title bar. Not only is it something normal, but it also doesn't qualify as anything close to unused, debuggy, or anything that TCRF covers. {EspyoT} 18:09, 1 August 2013 (EDT)
Viewing files/sprites
Is there a way to open up the files/gamedata.dat files? I assume that's where the majority of things are stored in.
- What I did to extract gamedata.dat was use a program named "SMB_unpak" which can be found on GitHub. It's a command line program where you drag the program to where the game's file is, then input the command for extracting the file. It can also extract the gameaudio.dat file. This tutorial gives instructions on using the program, and even playing the game with extracted assets to make finding and testing hidden stuffs more easier. Stage Collision Oddities?
In 5-8 (dark world) I noticed that the top part of the area that seemingly has nothing up there has some invisible ceiling that will stop you. This goes for most of that top area except for the far sides where you can still go through and die off screen. I think another might be at the start and end platforms of 7-16, but have yet to confirm this as I only saw it in a 106% tas someone made. I know a few others exists that I've stumbled onto, but don't remember where they are. Teh supar hackr (talk) 06:53, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
Audio Reused in TBOI
The audio files "Book Page Turn 12" in the menus, and "Castle Port Cullis" for the boss versus screen were both later used in the original The Binding of Isaac. Not sure if that should be mentioned as I have to check if both games were in development around the same time since SMB was in 2010, and TBOI in 2011.
