LM:DM Page?

I think it's time to search for unused content in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. According to the MarioWiki page, there's unused voice clips of Luigi and there's tons of differences between the beta and final versions. Mario Weaboo 21:28, 23 June 2013 (EDT)

I'm fairly certain the "unused" voice clips aren't in the game at all, as there currently are no tools for looking inside of 3DS games. As for the beta prototype, it has to be leaked (working ROM dumped) to be put here. --AttackedbyGlitch 22:32, 23 June 2013 (EDT)
I'm on his Mario Weaboo's side. As a question, Why, if there is no tools to look inside 3DS games, is there a few Work In Progress 3DS Articles? Just a question. --Vectrex (talk) 12:35, 27 October 2013 (EDT)
The WIP Nintendo 3DS articles mainly consist of regional differences. These have been found by playing each version, not by opening up the 3DS ROM using tools. -Einstein95 (talk) 14:02, 27 October 2013 (EDT)
OK, That makes more sense. Could someone possibly alter the programs that allow you to look inside DS games for the 3DS? Or would that require a lot of knowledge that we as a community don't have? --Vectrex (talk) 14:08, 27 October 2013 (EDT)
The 3DS games are encrypted. Current tools only parse the unencrypted information found in the header. Until such a time as the 3DS public key is found, and file formats can be reverse-engineered, not much can be done. -Einstein95 (talk) 14:10, 27 October 2013 (EDT)
Especially since the 3DS is constantly being updated and patched, further delaying efforts to decrypt it. There's also the issue of region locking. --AquaBat (talk) 15:06, 27 October 2013 (EDT)
Well, why does updating and patching have to do with making it harder to get into the games? Does nintendo keep adding stuff to make it harder to see the inside of their games? And region locking is a problem, but then couldn't you just use a code to bypass such? --Vectrex (talk) 15:19, 27 October 2013 (EDT)
Well yeah, we could use a code to bypass all of that. The issue is no one HAS that code yet. The Wii was hacked so early on because the GameCube had been hacked before that, and the Wii uses the GC's CPU infrastructure...I think. Then again, so does the Wii U.... Criteria for "unused"

I have two questions.

1. In Kid Icarus: Uprising, [this AR card](http://kidicarus.wikia.com/wiki/Kid_Icarus_Float) was released in Japan but not North America, however, when scanned, the card is fully functional and has localized text. Now would this be used or unused?

2. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, there's fully translated text and event data for visiting a Japanese player's town and having Japan-exclusive events. Would this be considered used, even though you need a Japanese 3DS and card to access it?

I would've put these on their respective pages, but alas, there are none. Robotortoise 20:33, 3 August 2013 (EDT)

I'd consider them unused, or at the very least, some minor variation of regional changes. Technically, a US player that plays their normal game without any sort of special hardware or software will never be able to access both those things. And that's basically the criteria for things that go unused in certain regions. {EspyoT} 09:20, 4 August 2013 (EDT)
I would consider the AR card data unused, but not the Animal Crossing data. The game was designed with global Internet connectivity in mind, and the developers fully expected people to be able to play with friends in other countries, and experience their local events. I'm pretty sure there was even an Iwata Asks that went into detail about this. --BMF54123 17:09, 4 August 2013 (EDT)
Well either way I don't know how to start a game page on TCRF, so until that's made, neither will be documented.Robotortoise 18:29, 5 August 2013 (EDT)
Ugh, I have to admit I didn't pay as much attention to the AC one. Yeah, the KiU one is fine, but as BMF54123 said, the AC data one won't do. Anyway, creating pages is as simple as searching for the page title, and then you just click create. Alternately, type the URL to the new page, basing yourself on existing URLs. To start the page, make sure you include everything other pages have, most importantly, Bob. {EspyoT} 20:19, 5 August 2013 (EDT)
All righty, doesn't seem too hard. Now that I have a solid answer on the AC thing. I'll work on the page.Robotortoise 18:35, 7 August 2013 (EDT)
Okay, I asked this question to BMF54123, but he hasn't answered in a timely fashion (probably a busy guy!) I'll just put it here. There's a Japan-only KI:U card that fits the criteria for regional changes, however, the only picture I could find of it that actually scans in game (Some of them have removed color, so the image can't be used instead of the card) is a JPG. ....I'm not really sure what to do here. Help me out. Also, what about taking a photo of the card in action? The game can save screenshots, and i could just print the card out on a white backround and show that to show what the in-game model looks like, but then again, we have the JPEG issue, as the 3DS saves in two formats: .JPG and .MPO (a 3D image format). It seems like this SHOULD be in the rules somewhere....I mean, it mentions JPEGs ripped from the game, but what about TAKEN in-game? It's surely a mystery. Robotortoise 21:27, 12 August 2013 (EDT)
I'd say that it's not just a regional difference, since there's a whole English description for it that, due to the card never being released anywhere outside Japan, goes unseen, and therefore, according to this wiki's criteria, legally unused. I made a note of it on my userpage, but have yet to act on it. If you need it, I'll give you the text, you can just add it as unused text without needing a screenshot. In fact, I'll make an example page in my userspace and let you edit it if you want. --AquaBat 21:45, 12 August 2013 (EDT)
Thanks. But I'd still like to add a screenshot. I mean, the screenshot's THERE, right? Why shouldn't it be on the page, even in JPG form? Robotortoise 22:45, 12 August 2013 (EDT)
I kind of figured you'd want it just for the sake of showing it. I'll take a screenshot while I'm getting the description if need be. Hell, I could even grab a scanned image of the Japanese card while I'm there. --AquaBat 22:48, 12 August 2013 (EDT)
Awesome! That'd be wonderful! Thanks so much. Robotortoise 23:45, 12 August 2013 (EDT)

Cactus question

sorry this question isn't really helpful, but what's with the obsession of the sm64 unused cactus being used a lot? --TheDoc 04:48, 10 August 2013 (EDT)

twittah --Hiccup 05:31, 10 August 2013 (EDT)
It looks pretty? And, uh.....I don't think it's in the SM64 article as unused, ironically. Someone should add it. I don't do N64 hacking. Too complicated. Wii/GC's where it's at. Robotortoise (talk) 21:05, 31 August 2013 (EDT)
*cough* --AquaBat (talk) 22:29, 31 August 2013 (EDT)
Oh, right. I thought it would be under generic, not textures. Cause it's not a texture, it's a sprite. I think. Robotortoise (talk) 22:37, 31 August 2013 (EDT)

Typo

There's a typo on the line "Kintaro was origially meant to have a intro in Mortal Kombat II like Goro did in Mortal Kombat?" Someone should fix that. Mario Weaboo 01:02, 17 August 2013 (EDT)

Non-registered users can edit

Is there any particular reason that non-registered users can edit the wiki? The only thing that could possibly come out of that is spam. --DevEd (talk) 07:57, 8 October 2013 (EDT)

I don't see non-registered users being able to edit. Can you point out any instances? --Xk-sig.png Xkeeper (talk) 20:19, 8 October 2013 (EDT)
I dunno about you, but I'm having trouble editing the wiki....period. Robotortoise (talk) 15:07, 8 October 2013 (EDT)
WAIT HOLY CRAP THAT WORKED WOOH Robotortoise (talk) 15:08, 8 October 2013 (EDT)
...no, wait. I still can't edit game-specific pages. :( Robotortoise (talk) 15:11, 8 October 2013 (EDT)
This is a bug, try editing another page with the edits you need. Looking into it, do you get any error message? --Xk-sig.png Xkeeper (talk) 20:19, 8 October 2013 (EDT)
No error messages. It just won't submit. IDK. Whoever manages the FB page apparently knows about it.Robotortoise (talk) 20:45, 8 October 2013 (EDT)
EDIT: Woot! I can edit pages now! Thanks for fixing it, admins or whoever manages that type of thing! Robotortoise (talk) 14:04, 11 October 2013 (EDT)

Debug ROMS

Why are the "Debug Rom" versions of games (Ocarina of Time Debug, Majora's Mask Debug, ect.) not listed under that game's main page? It always seemed a bit odd that it was on its own page. Robotortoise (talk) 02:52, 29 October 2013 (EDT)

You may have a point. --Hiccup (talk) 05:04, 29 October 2013 (EDT)
As far as I know,it's because it is a seperate version of the game technically speaking. Just my oppinion --Vectrex (talk) 23:26, 29 October 2013 (EDT)
They really need to be combined, it is such a mess. People can write on individually sections if it doesn't exist in the final game? --Hiccup (talk) 09:05, 30 October 2013 (EDT)

Formatting

I didn't format The Stanley Parable page correctly, and I didn't want it to get immediately moved because of bad formatting. So does anyone wanna help me out? Please? http://pastebin.com/fE6j7U1i Thanks so much! Robotortoise (talk) 03:32, 31 October 2013 (EDT)

Looks mostly OK to me. Have you read the rules and editing help pages? There's a whole section on creating an article, as well as another whole section on creating subpages to house and experiment with articles you don't feel are ready to go on the main page yet. --GlitterBerri (talk) 03:36, 31 October 2013 (EDT)
I've pasted it into an article in your userpace here and fixed the formatting while I was there. Try doing this for WIP articles in the future. It really helps. If you need it moved, just give the say so. -Einstein95 (talk) 03:38, 31 October 2013 (EDT)
Okay, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the help.Robotortoise (talk) 19:48, 31 October 2013 (EDT)

Front Page ideas

I had some suggestions for the front page of the wiki, and I thought the talk page was the right place to talk about them. For starters, the featured article thing seems to pull up a random article each time you visit the page, so why not have them scroll, so people could see all the featured articles? Another suggestion is for the Did you know, which would be the same as the last. Just some suggestions, I mean no harm to the wiki. --Vectrex (talk) 22:47, 3 December 2013 (EST)

You can already view all of the Featured Articles by clicking the link at the bottom of the box. As for "Did You Know?", it's supposed to be a random selection of factoids, and is meant to encourage users to come back each day to see more. Listing them all would kind of ruin that (in my opinion). --BMF54123 (talk) 22:58, 3 December 2013 (EST)
...Although if you really want to see all the currently-present "Did You Know?" listings, go to Template:DidYouKnow and click "view source". -WarioBarker (talk) 23:29, 5 December 2013 (EST)

Batch uploader?

Why do we not have a Special:MultipleUpload page? I've got over 100 OGG files to upload for the Team Fortress 2/Unused Sounds article, and I reaaaally don't want to do the uploading one by one.

So I'm wondering if it would be at all possible to set up some sort of "batch uploader" here on the Wiki that can allow editors to upload multiple files in one shot, and apply the proper templating at the same time (i.e. me uploading 10 OGGs at a time, and templating them all with the soundfile template). Possible? I really don't want to hold up on uploading all these files, but with the lack of any batch uploading system, it's going to be a real pain in the ass.

Also, what is up with that "Publish" button at the top of the page when you're doing an edit? It wants me to add in an edit summary even though I'm making a new topic which automatically creates its own edit summary? I've never actually used the Publish button, and I don't think I ever will. 404: User Not Found (talk) 19:47, 6 December 2013 (EST)

Nevermind, lol. Just found the Upload Wizard. 404: User Not Found (talk) 19:50, 6 December 2013 (EST)
And it doesn't work. The "Continue" button, after "uploading" 49 OGG files, does nothing at all. I can't continue on, which means I have to do this uploading one by one. Maybe we can switch back to the old MultipleUpload, or maybe a different batch uploading system? 404: User Not Found (talk) 20:05, 6 December 2013 (EST)
Came to report the same issue with the uploader, looks beautiful, but "Continue" doesn't do anything! WhoIAm (talk) 17:51, 13 December 2013 (EST)
It's been reported several times. There's nothing we can do about it until the person with server access uploads a fixed version. --BMF54123 (talk) 18:25, 13 December 2013 (EST)
And it has been fixed. -Einstein95 (talk) 18:12, 22 December 2013 (EST)

Clarification

Ok, so I looked in the wiki's help pages and there is no guides to when you should mark a change as minor, which can cause problems for me and proabaly other users new to the site. Can you clear this up with me and put it somewhere on a help page? Thanks. --Signed: Vectrex (talk) 18:45, 2 January 2014 (EST)

I honestly don't think this has ever caused problems for anyone, nor does it need to be clarified in the rules. If you feel you've made a minor edit, feel free to mark it as such. It's as simple as that. --BMF54123 (talk) 18:58, 2 January 2014 (EST)
I personally tick "minor" when I'm just correcting grammar, spelling, or organizational placement and not adding new information other people would be interested in checking. --GlitterBerri (talk) 05:30, 3 January 2014 (EST)
Pretty much this ^. Daily, I check the recent changes, and I only really click on changes based on the number of characters changed and the summary (0, 1 or 2 byte changes are very likely typo fixes I don't care about), so I don't really care about whether it's a minor edit or not. I even installed a custom style to change the small "m" to italic instead of bold! {EspyoT} 08:25, 3 January 2014 (EST)

Super Mario 3D World "unused" song

Okay, on the Super Mario 3D World OST someone ripped from the official Club Nintendo Japan CD, there's a longer version of the Wii U menu title theme. Could we trick the game into loading slowly with a broken HDD or removing the disc as it's loading or something to get the full song? Here's a link. I couldn't find a good YT link. http://breakfastbungalow.biz/robotortoise/hiTCRF.mp3 Robotortoise (talk) 22:34, 10 February 2014 (EST)

It's probably used for the ending credits. --AquaBat (talk) 00:29, 11 February 2014 (EST)
I clarified my previous post. Basically, can we trick the Wii U into loading the SM3DW music, but not the game itself? Robotortoise (talk) 15:33, 11 February 2014 (EST)

Prerelease/Mainspace

If the graphics of the cut "thing" is in the final game, but the functionality is only shown in prerelease footage, should the unused graphic be in the prerelease page (or vice versa)? and/or should they link to each other? --Hiccup (talk) 14:45, 21 February 2014 (EST)

I answered this on IRC. The Prerelease rules say that it shouldn't be on the Prerelease page, and on the Main page. It's prerelease functionality should be noted on the main page. -Einstein95 (talk) 14:49, 21 February 2014 (EST)

TCRF Google Stuff

Is TCRF going to have a YouTube Channel/Google+ page/Chrome App? And if so, should it be created by Xkeeper's or BMF's google account rather than someone else's? (I am aware that they can have multiple managers). --Hiccup (talk) 05:34, 1 March 2014 (EST)

--Hiccup (talk) 07:52, 25 June 2014 (EDT)
A) There is a YouTube channel, although it's mainly there to backup videos against YouTube's copyright stuff.
B) Why did Google suggest that to you and where did that G+ page come from?

I made the page. It will not be recognised by google as an "offical TCRF page" without confirming the link to tcrf.net --Hiccup (talk) 05:36, 26 June 2014 (EDT)

TCRF Dutch Translation

Hi there!
I love the Cutting Room Floor, and I'd like to translate some pages to Dutch. Like other languages on this site. Could someone give me permission and tell me how to do that? Greetings,

Flex tweaks

I’ve recently been looking for unused content in iOS games with Flex (an app tweaking utility) and I’m curious, what’s the best way for putting Flex tweaks into an article? Would it be better to upload the tweak itself, or write “To enable this unused thing, patch +(void) enableUnusedStuff (BOOL) to TRUE.”? --AttackedbyGlitch (talk) 17:26, 1 April 2014 (EDT)

I'd say that the latter is more in line with the other methods that we document, so yes to the “To enable this unused thing, patch +(void) enableUnusedStuff (BOOL) to TRUE.” method. -Einstein95 (talk) 02:15, 3 April 2014 (EDT)
Alright, thanks. --AttackedbyGlitch (talk) 16:20, 3 April 2014 (EDT)

Yeah... can we please change the logo back. April Fool's Day is over y'know... Pgj1997 (talk) 17:17, 3 April 2014 (EDT)

It was changed last night. Either refresh the page or close your browser. --BMF54123 (talk) 17:21, 3 April 2014 (EDT)

Requesting games?

I was wondering, could I request the people on this site to look into a game, or do I have to do it myself? MySceneGang (talk) 10:18, 15 May 2014 (EDT)

Requests aren't really a thing, but what normally happens is that when somebody has the knowledge of some unused content ideas, but not the knowledge on how to obtain it, they open up a bullet point on The Cutting Room Floor:Content to expand. For instance, if you know for a fact that game XYZ has unused characters, or even if you THINK it does, because you remember seeing a weird character several years ago, as consequence of a cartridge jam glitching up the game, you could write it on that page, and somebody will take a look eventually. Now, if you really like a game, and want people to dig into it, but have no idea whether the game has unused content, that's likely not going to happen on demand. {EspyoT} 09:02, 16 May 2014 (EDT)

Photos with Mario

So I was looking at the new "Photos with Mario" app on the 3DS. Anyhow, I don't have any of the cards, so I looked them up online. When I was scrolling through the image results, I came across one of Luigi, which to my knowledge isn't (or hasn't yet) been released in North America. Anyhow, When I pointed my 3DS at it, the game recognized the card! Would this be considered something that could go on TCRF?Clone5184 (talk)

I think so. Please use four tildes after typing a message to sign it, btw. Robotortoise (talk) 18:21, 29 May 2014 (EDT)
No, certainly not yet. The application was just released internationally; just because three of the cards are not available on release date doesn't mean they won't be available later. Also, make sure to add a message at the bottom of a talk page, the admins don't really like when messages aren't in chronological order. --AquaBat (talk) 23:27, 29 May 2014 (EDT)

Music Player Problems

The music player is most likely broken. I've tried it on all 5 of my home computers, and it doesn't work on any of them. --Signed: Vectrex (talk) 14:52, 19 June 2014 (EDT)

More information, please. What browser(s) do you use? Any error messages? --BMF54123 (talk) 14:56, 19 June 2014 (EDT)
Nevermind, seemed to be a problem associated with Internet Explorer, tried Chrome and worked. It seems that IE can't read the ogg files. Just in case, the error message was.. Oh, "Unsupported music type of invalid file path". Well, I guess you can't really fix that. --Signed: Vectrex (talk) 23:49, 20 June 2014 (EDT)
Internet Explorer is still trash after all these years. Big surprise. --BMF54123 (talk) 23:50, 20 June 2014 (EDT)

World Of Warcraft

WORLD OF WARCRAFT

Hello. I am trying to make an article of all the unused stuff in wow like Maldo's Test Quest This test quest. I need some help please. Just search World Of Warcraft! plz help me.

Uh. I just realized

....there's no "about us" section on the left sidebar. Most sites have one. It would have the contact info, who start TCRF, when it was started, and then a link to the "in the media" page. It'd be nice to have this please. (Also a mobile UI but that's another issue). Robotortoise (talk) 00:46, 13 August 2014 (EDT)

There is an 'About The Cutting Room Floor' link at the bottom of every page. It has been there since the begining, give or take a few days. It has links to the media page. --Hiccup (talk) 12:07, 23 August 2014 (EDT)

System 7 compressed sounds "csnd"

Tell me, guys, does anyone happen to know how to extract and uncompress "compressed" Mac sounds from various old Mac games? Because, I've often wondered how non-compressed "SND" files can be (with minor problems) easily taken care of, but not the csnd resources. Alberto Ricci's SoundExtractor was apparently discontinued before v1.32 of the app could be released, which also had a to-do on trying to decompress any CSND files I've found in a few Mac games that use at least OS 7, such as Prince of Persia on Mac or Wolfenstein 3D (Macintosh).

The thing about Wolf3D is, the 3DO version is about the same as on the Mac, but its sounds are all uncompressed though come with a click at the beginning of their files and have a little lower quality to them, apparently to be friendly for the system's limits. --BreakingBenny (talk) 05:05, 13 August 2014 (EDT)

Multiplatform Games

How exactly are these meant to be laid out on the wiki? The way it is done seems to be a bit inconsistent. --Hiccup (talk) 17:54, 18 August 2014 (EDT)

Just my two cents here. Articles like this should drop the platform from the page title:
http://tcrf.net/Tony_Hawk%27s_Underground_2_(PlayStation_2)
http://tcrf.net/Soul_Calibur_II_(PlayStation_2)
Specific finds unique to the PS2 or GameCube (whatever the game is on) should go in a platform specific subpage. -Jedivulcan (talk) 18:27, 18 August 2014 (EDT)

Should the list of platforms in the bob include every platform the game is on, or just the platforms covered on TCRF? --Hiccup (talk) 11:58, 23 August 2014 (EDT)

Source Game's Console Commands?

Should developer console commands for source games (specific to the game and/or general source engine) be documented? --Hiccup (talk) 09:42, 26 August 2014 (EDT) Yes. They have been, and shall continue to be. (Plus, they sometimes have unused/debugging conditions.) Robotortoise (talk) 00:19, 13 October 2014 (EDT)
