Prototype

There's a prototype for this Unreal game as well. It has a completely different title screen and song, all of the Unreal 1 multiplayer levels with UT weapons, an unused skin for both the female model that has her navel exposed and the shirtless guy model, and a version of dm_liandri that bears no resemblance to the one in the final. There are also quite a few differences in the levels themselves, but I don't remember a lot of them off the top of my head.

I took a look through the damn thing and oh man there are a lot of differences. A good chunk of the DM maps are from Unreal 1, a few iconic levels outright do not exist (like Hyperblast), and all of the Assault have significant changes. Interesting! As for the U1 DM levels, UT actually has code for replacing U1 weapon pickups with their UT equivalents by default, so that might be what's going on. Might be worth diving into UnrealEd and seeing... TheKins 08:34, 12 October 2010 (EDT)

Stuff that needs to be looked into

There's some interesting stuff in UT99's files that should be documented at some point. What I can find ATM:

  • Extremely skimpy female Necris skin. This is in v222 and unused there as well, suggesting it's an early leftover. You could probably load these as custom skins for the female Necris to grab screenshots. Package is GothFem.
  • Gothskins contains unused skins for the male Necris. They're showing their abs off, Doomguy-style.
  • A file containing unused mugshots with transparent backgrounds calls Xan "Bane". Package is called "Faces". I think the mugshots may be different as well. Take a look.
  • DOM-Ghardhen's preview image uses the Unreal mine textures seen in v222.
  • Botpack220's Damage Amplifier and Jump Boots HUD icons are still in the final game.
  • Rip the unused callsigns and put them up.
  • Maybe note how the HUD weapon icons often don't match the final guns?
