Several prototypes of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island were leaked alongside source code on July 24, 2020. The same leak also included an unreleased game called Super Donkey, which featured various elements that ended up later being used in Yoshi's Island. The prototypes also shows a unique HUD.
The ys_romX_0 prototype of Yoshi's Island may look a lot like the final game, but there are many differences in presentation and gameplay, and level design.
Notably, the title screen bears the prefix "Super Mario Bros. 5" instead of "Super Mario World 2".
In this prototype is an unused transformation where Yoshi becomes a bomb and explodes, which destroys all enemies on-screen. The graphics for this transformation still exist in the final game, where they go unused.
