The Wii is Nintendo's second disc-based home console, and the first to have fairly in-depth online capabilities, plus a sophisticated updatable operating system. It also brought motion controls to the forefront of the video game industry.
It was planned for the Wii to ship with DVD playback, but licensing fees likely resulted in this being scrapped. Despite that, code and assets still remain in the firmware of many units, thus meaning that homebrew can re-enable this capability on older production models. While this banner asset is still present in the Disc Channel's files, it's rendered invisible normally.
