Hidden Text

This game shares the same music driver library that many other NES Ocean Software games used. As a result, there is a hidden version and copyright string:

MUSIC DRIVER V1.0 (C)JONATHAN DUNN & OCEAN SOFTWARE

Infinite Lives

I c what you did there.

Press A, B, B, A, Left, Right, Left, Right at the title screen. The "c" letter will appear in the upper left corner of the screen.

Unused Graphics

Early Gomez Sprites

That's a big ol' head.
Present among the subscreen/item graphics are a collection of Gomez sprites from an earlier version of the game.

Pleasantly goofy.
Pictures of this version were published in Nintendo Power volume 28, page 93.

Character Bodies

Full bodied.

The inventory screen has body tiles of all Addams Family members (barring Lurch), but only their heads are used in the final version. Morticia is never used, period, because the game ends after rescuing her.

Coin

Just one coin?

The coin (seen in the above scan) can still be found in the level tilesets, unused.

Crosses

Oh no, Christian iconography!

As are the crosses. The crosses are still present in The Garden's layout, but the tiles have been blacked out. The complete cross tiles can, however, still be found in other copies of the graveyard tileset within the game's data. In addition, the un-blanked crosses and many other tiles from this game can be found between graphics in Ferrari Grand Prix Challenge.

This patch will restore the crosses to the graveyard:

Old Portraits

Mysterious and spooky.
Older versions of character portraits can be found in various tilesets.

Awfully yellow.
These portraits also show up in early versions of the game. The only one used is the Cousin Itt picture.

Graphics Leftovers

As is common with games by Ocean and System 3, most of the graphics banks were written over the top of the graphics banks of other Ocean games, for some strange reason. This game contains part of the title screen graphics for the European Rainbow Islands: The Story of Bubble Bobble 2.

Another graphics block's origin is unknown, but this unused block can be found in Cool World and Parasol Stars: The Story of Bubble Bobble III, also by Ocean.

When assembled, they form some spooky looking letters, perhaps an early design for the logo.

The message box was expanded to accommodate the different languages.

Wrench

Woo, fog machine! This rave will be jumpin'. I just met her.

The word "wrench" was changed to "spanner" in the European version, and the button text was moved up a bit.
