The boss portraits that are shown after you defeat them were edited for the US release to remove blood and some of the damage, replacing it with tears, snot and uh, drool. Wind Walker (the Native American boss) also looks scared instead of angry in the US release.

Act 5 also had some text changes:

  • In Japan, the level's gang is called The Slaughter Troops, while in the US they were renamed The Demolition Troops.
  • The Green Beret enemy was originally called Execution, but is called Enforcer in the US.
  • Finally, the next to last boss was originally called Swastika, but his name was changed to M.Blaster in the US release.

Virtual Console Changes

The Virtual Console version has one additional change: the evil organization at the center of the story was renamed from Ground Zero to Guilty Zero. This was presumably because having a gang named Ground Zero taking over New York City would have been considered insensitive after the September 11th attacks.
