KATA_HB - Stone Platform & Bridge

This archive is called KATA_HB, which translates to One-Sided Plaza. It contains a stone platform and a rope bridge. Unusually, the texture files for this map are stored in a separate .arc file, rather than within the room .arc.

TWW Map KATA HB.png

The bridge can be destroyed by standing on it and cutting away all its ropes. Due to the height of the stone platform, if Link jumps off it, he won't be able to climb back on.

Overview

This archive is called KATA_RM, which translates to One-Sided Room. It contains 32 copies of a plain stone room, each featuring a different set of enemies. In the case of enemies that need to be defeated using a specific method, the room generally provides access to the method as well. (For example, Poes need to be stunned with light.)

The game's map select provides a full list of which enemies can be found in which room, visible at left.

Interestingly, the map select refers to Morths as Black Boes, the name of a similar enemy from Majora's Mask.

Rooms 18, 22, and 23

These rooms are all dedicated to Floormasters. The first has items that Floormasters can pick up and throw, such as pots.

The second features switches that, when stepped on, trigger a Floormaster to pursue Link, as seen in the video above.

The third contains Medli, whom the Floor Masters pursue instead of Link.

Room 30

In this room, Link can reenact his ultimate fight against Ganondorf. This version of the fight boasts a few differences, however. For one thing, the final boss battle music will start, but quickly transitions into regular enemy music, only to return when the game is paused. Also, it doesn't seem possible to defeat Ganondorf, due to the absence of Princess Zelda.

While it's not normally possible to hit Ganondorf with regular arrows, due to Zelda appropriating Link's bow for the regular boss fight, in this room, one can see that Ganondorf is stunned by them the same way he's stunned by Light Arrows.

Room 31

This room is an early version of the second chamber of the Earth Temple. The only objects it contains are Miniblins and a switch. The switch spawns an additional Miniblin when pressed.

TLoZTWW KATA RM 32.png

As Miniblins never appear in the final version of the Earth Temple, it's unclear why this room was chosen to test them. However, it does make sense that they weren't placed in one of the generic square enclosures that make up the rest of the KATA_RM archive: because Miniblins are capable of climbing walls and other structures, a room that consisted of nothing but a rectangular box would not allow the developers to test this feature.

kazan - Fire Mountain Exterior (Early)

TLoZTWW Kazan 1.png

This archive is called kazan, which translates to volcano. It contains an early version of Fire Mountain. The textures in this area seem primitive, and the position of the rocks that surround the island is different.

TWW Map kazan.png

The model of the island also differs in two ways from what players are used to. Firstly, one of the ledges at the base of the volcano is much closer to a neighbouring plateau, making it possible for the player to jump between them. Secondly, the entrance at the top of the mountain is much smaller.

kaze - Wind Temple

This archive is called kaze, which translates to wind. It contains rooms found in the Wind Temple.

Originally, miniboss and boss rooms were contained within the same file as normal dungeon rooms. The developers later decided to make copies of the miniboss and boss rooms and move them into their own separate archives, but left the original copies behind in the dungeon archive files. Two examples are presented below.

Room 06

TLoZTWW Kaze 7.png

Room 06 was originally created to be the miniboss room of the Wind Temple. It was then copied and moved into a separate archive called kazeMB, which translates to Wind Miniboss. The developers continued to update the new version, leaving the old room behind in kaze.

The original copy has an exit to the Wind Temple's miniboss room.

Room 13

TLoZTWW Kaze 14.png

Room 13 was originally created to be the boss room of the Wind Temple. It was then copied and moved into a separate archive called kazeB, which translates to Wind Boss. The developers continued to update the new version, leaving the old room behind in kaze.

The original copy has an exit to the Wind Temple's boss room.

kindan - Forbidden Woods

This archive is called kindan, which translates to Forbidden. It contains rooms found in the Forbidden Woods.

Originally, miniboss and boss rooms were contained within the same file as normal dungeon rooms. The developers later decided to make copies of the miniboss and boss rooms and move them into their own separate archives, but left the original copies behind in the dungeon archive files. One example is presented below.

Room 10

Please elaborate.
Having more detail is always a good thing.
Specifically: How does the ceiling differ?

Room 10 was originally created to be the Mothula miniboss room of the Forbidden Woods. It was then copied and moved into a separate archive called kindanMB, which translates to Forbidden Miniboss. The developers continued to update the new version, leaving the old room behind in kindan.

The original copy has collision, but no BMD or BDL model. The ceiling differs from the final area.

M_Dai - Earth Temple

This archive is called M_Dai, which translates to M Earth. It contains rooms found in the Earth Temple.

Originally, miniboss and boss rooms were contained within the same file as normal dungeon rooms. The developers later decided to make copies of the miniboss and boss rooms and move them into their own separate archives, but left the original copies behind in the dungeon archive files. One example is presented below.

Room 12

TLoZTWW M Dai 13.png

Room 12 was originally created to be the Stalfos miniboss room of the Wind Temple. It was then copied and moved into a separate archive called M_DaiMB, which translates to M Earth Miniboss. The developers continued to update the new version, leaving the old room behind in M_Dai.

Room 20

TLoZTWW M Dai 21.png

This unused room may be an early version of the temple entrance room.

M_NewD2 - Dragon Roost Cavern

This archive is called M_NewD2, which translates to M New Dragon 2. It contains rooms found in Dragon Roost Cavern.

Originally, miniboss and boss rooms were contained within the same file as normal dungeon rooms. The developers later decided to make copies of the miniboss and boss rooms and move them into their own separate archives, but left the original copies behind in the dungeon archive files. One example is presented below.

Room 05

TLoZTWW M NewD2 6.png TLoZTWW M NewD2 6 2.png

This unused room is an early version of the Dragon Roost Cavern entrance. Unlike the final area, the blocks that normally obstruct Link's path are already moved out of the way. The exit out of the cavern is blocked, though getting close to it triggers an inescapable looping cutscene.

Room 09

Room 09 was originally created to be the miniboss room of Dragon Roost Cavern. Its contents were moved into a separate archive called M_Dra09, which translates to M Dragon 09, leaving this room file empty.

Room 16

TLoZTWW M NewD2 17.png

This unused room is an early version of the room containing the Great Key. It features a small bridge across a lava pit, as well as two ground-based switches that can be pressed to reveal a chest. The lava here uses a unique texture that's darker and lower quality than the usual lava texture.

morocam - Camera Test Map

This archive is called morocam. It cannot be accessed via the game's map select.

TLoZTWW Morocam 1.png

When the room first loads, the camera zooms past the trees until it gets close to Link, upon which it swings in a half circle around him and stops. Link is frozen during this time, and control is only returned to the player when the camera sequence ends and the HUD appears.

The objects in this location include two parallel lines of four trees, and six pots near the outer edge of the map.

Msmoke - Smoke Test Map

Acactussayswhat?
Please elaborate.
Having more detail is always a good thing.
Specifically: Why does this map crash?
TWW Map Msmoke.png

This archive is called Msmoke. The game's map select refers to it as a smoke testing area.

TLoZTWW Msmoke 1.png TLoZTWW Msmoke 2.png

The location is comprised of two stone rooms that normally crashes when loaded in-game. It contains a spawn point for Link and nothing else. The pits in the rooms are so deep that Link cannot escape if he falls in.

Mukao - Headstone Island (Early)

This archive is called Mukao. It cannot be accessed via the game's map select. It contains an early version of Headstone Island, the location of the Earth Temple. Its name may be the romanized version of 無顔, which translates to "no face", a possible reference to the fact that the map contained within lacks Headstone Island's customary headstone.

TWW Map Mukao.png

As mentioned above, in this version of the map, the rock in front of the mountain is not a headstone, and cannot be lifted with the Power Bracelets.

Obshop - Beedle's Shop Ship

TLoZTWW Obshop 6.png
Hmmm...
To do:
Gamma, check this for accuracy! Also, please elaborate!

This archive is called Obshop, which translates to O - Barrel Shop. It contains the various instances of Beedle's Shop Ship, as well as two earlier versions of Ghost Ship rooms.

The unused Ghost Ship rooms are called PShip2 and PShip3, and contain only collision data.

Ojhous - Orca's House

TLoZTWW Ojhous 2.png

This archive is called Ojhous, which translates to Old Man's House. It contains the used version of Orca's room (Room 00), and an unused version of Sturgeon's room (Room 01).

Room 01

This earlier version of Sturgeon's room has three pots near the door, and different lighting. Additionally, the room's internal decor isn't finished: for example, some textures and books are missing. A more detailed comparison is presented below:

The texture below the pillow is less detailed in this early version of the map. In the final, it uses a texture from the pillow.

Several small bottles have been added to the small cabinet. Also, the headboard on the bed has been modified.

The books in the final version are more detailed; Some books are also posed differently. Three jars have been removed from the shelf above these books.

Early Version (Ojhous) Ojhous2
TWW Ojhous Details4.png TWW Ojhous2 Details4.png

As with those above, these books have more details on the textures and are placed differently. A few small bottles have been added on the shelves.

The principal differences between the two added rooms are jars and pots with plants. One of the pots is remote from the window to prevent it passing through the wall slightly to the side.

Ojhous2 - Sturgeon's House

TLoZTWW Ojhous2 1.png

This archive is called Ojhous2, which translates to Old Man's House 2. It contains an unused version of Orca's room (Room 00), and the used version of Sturgeon's room (Room 01).

Room 00

This earlier version of Orca's room has different lighting, and is missing the shelf where the Knight's Crest is placed in the final game. Instead, a different shelf with a pot is present, which Link can roll into to cause the pot to shatter on the ground.
