The Lion King 1½ is a platformer based on the movie of the same name. So in other words, there's a distinct lack of actual lions in this game, since the focus is on Timon and Pumbaa.

Regional Differences

US version European version

Since the movie was renamed The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata outside of the US, the subtitle was dropped for the European release rather than adding a 3 in place of the 1½. And since the European release also added Simba onto the front cover of the game, this makes for a rather misleading title.

US version European version
TLK112-Options.PNG TLK-Options.PNG

Since the options screen in the US version uses a smaller version of the title, it was replaced in the European games with a smaller screenshot of the options screen (albeit with unused text that doesn't match with to any of the available languages). In addition to this, the film roll was moved over and the level title box was made larger. The top box containing the character lives was also slightly modified.

The credits for the European version also omit one name at the end of the credits roll, likely because the space is used to load other languages.
