There sure are a lot of versions of this particular game.
Debug Menu
At the Infogrames logo, press and hold C, then B, then A. While still holding all these buttons, press Start to make some music play and confirm the code.
To access the menu, hold down the "run" button (whichever one is assigned), then press Start while in a level.
- EXIT - Exits, and resumes play if another level hasn't been selected (see below).
- TABLEAU - Select level.
- PTS VIES - Set energy.
- INFORMATION JEU - Shows the names of various people who were involved with the game's creation. This list is not the same as the end credits.
Expanded Debug Menu
For the European version, enable Game Genie code BCTA-RACN, then enter the above code to add four more options to the debug menu.
- INFO CARACTERES - VRAM viewer.
- JOYSTICK - Changes the controller presets.
- CPT ANIME - Displays a frame counter outputting the value of 0xff4814, which is incremented on each VBLANK call.
- RESET - Performs an illegal write of value 0xffff at ROM start (0x000001), freezing the game.
For the Brazilian version, use Game Genie code BCTA-RAEW instead. The Brazilian version expanded debug menu does have a couple of differences.
- EPILEPSIE - This triggers the scene where Brainy Smurf advices to take a break after a long gaming session.
- INFO CARACTERES - VRAM viewer. Option name is party overlapped by the presets of the JOYSTICK setting.
- JOYSTICK - Changes the controller presets, which are still placed where they originally were in the European version.
- CPT ANIME - Displays a frame counter outputting the value of 0xff4814, which is incremented on each VBLANK call.
By inserting the new EPILEPSIE option where INFO CARACTERES was in the European version and moving the subsequent options one row below they originally were, the RESET function ended up being removed in the Brazilian version.
