Error Handler

Errors abound!

This handler is still present, thankfully. This game definitely needs one.

Sound Test

Wall o' sound.

The sound test from Mortal Kombat 3 is still present. Press A, C, Up, B, Up, B, A, Down on the main menu to access it.

Chameleon

Such a chameleon! He looks just like Scorpion. He didn't win hard enough.

Chameleon was planned for the console ports of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, but due to cartridge constraints he remains unfinished, to access him use Pro Action Replay code FF0127:19 (note: the code can crash the game).

Other than having his own life bar and win text, he has no combos other than some simple two-hit jump-ins, no special moves or fatalities, though he borrows Scorpion's Stage Fatality and Friendship, his bio screen and ending are damaged and his Battle Plan portrait is Kano's. In certain actions, such as performing one of the one-button finishers cheats, he turns into Rain.

Chameleon would make his proper debut in Mortal Kombat Trilogy (except in the Nintendo 64 version).

Unused Bio Screens

Use the Pro Action Replay code FF021F:XX to see these screens in the demo mode. XX is the character ID. Alternatively, use the Bio Screen option in the same menu as the sound test above.

Smoke's bio hasn't been changed from Mortal Kombat 3. Human Smoke and Classic Sub-Zero's bios are just placeholders, and Chameleon's bio is glitched (he doesn't have a bio name like the other characters).

The "-MOTARO-" text (0x59226) from Mortal Kombat 3 is still present, though there's still no Motaro bio. Shao Kahn's bio is damaged, and it crashes the game.

Glitchality

Animalities were removed from the Genesis port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. However, whoever was responsible for removing them was probably easily distracted, because they accidentally left in Kabal's Animality's input command. If you try and perform an Animality with Kabal, he loses his head and some very strange things can happen.

Unused Text

Along with some new text, most of the unused text from the previous Genesis port is still present, still unused.

Build Date

A build date and password (which unlocks the Cheats, Secrets, and Killer Codes menus) are found at 0x05D834:

VERSION: AUGUST 4TH 10:30PM
PASSWORD: ADALARCUL

Ending Text

The last line from the game's ending is never actually seen in-game. This doesn't appear in the arcade version either. Ending text is at 0x057174:

SHAO KAHN IS NO MORE

YOU ARE THE ULTIMATE
MK3 CHAMPION

YOU DONT SUCK

Game Info Text

Still present in the ROM (which makes even less sense) at 0x067E86:

MORTAL KOMBAT 3
ARCADE REVISION 3
BEWARE OF JERROD AND THE DEVIL CHONKA

Kombat Kodes

Starting at 0x013841:

PLAYER 1 HP DISABLED
PLAYER 1 LP DISABLED
PLAYER 1 BLOCK DISABLED
PLAYER 1 HK DISABLED
PLAYER 1 LK DISABLED
PLAYER 1 RUN DISABLED
PLAYER 2 HP DISABLED
PLAYER 2 LP DISABLED
PLAYER 2 BLOCK DISABLED
PLAYER 2 HK DISABLED
PLAYER 2 LK DISABLED
PLAYER 2 RUN DISABLED

This is the last chunk of Kombat Kode text in the ROM. They're still not implemented.

Sheeva

Sheeva's health bar name (0x052528) and win text (0x055074) can be found in the ROM. Sheeva was cut from this port, this is what remains from her.

Chameleon

Like Sheeva, Chameleon's health bar name and win text can be found in the ROM at (0x5258C and 0x5510E).

Endurance Mode

The Endurance Mode from Mortal Kombat 3 was removed, but inside the ROM the words "Endurance Mode" can still be found twice (at 0x525A8 and 0x65774).

Unused Names

Still unused and located at 0x584AE are the following names:

MIKE, LISA, PRUDENCE, JOYCIE, FELICITY

Edit: These are not unused. This message shows up on an easter egg mentioned in a forum years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4vbOOwkqzo

This easter egg is found in an old Turkish Mortal Kombat fan forum that is no longer active.

How to reproduce:

  1. You must unlock the secret menus by pressing A, C, Up, B, Up, B, A, and Down.
  2. Enter the "Killer Kodes" menu.
  3. Press the C button 4 times and the A button 13 times.

If you enter the codes correctly, the friendship music will play, the message will appear, and after a moment, the game will quit from the Killer Kodes menu automatically. It's unknown if it triggers something secret.

Unused Message

DOUBLE FLAWLESS

This can be found at 0x5514E and is still unused.
