Conceptual Stages

  • Incredibly primitive blocks, supposed to resemble tofu.
  • The characters were going to be Squids, no humanoid form whatsoever.
  • The characters were also going to be Bunnies. Apparently it would be easier to see ink on bunnies since they are white... according to the developers, anyway.
Everything is looking primitive.
Silly rabbit, ink is for kids!
You're a Squid now!

E3 2014

  • The main theme is fairly different from the final version.
  • The lobby's background is blue and purple. The Global Testfire demo also used this, but neither Turf Wars or Ranked Battles in the final game use this scheme; yet, that is.
  • There were warmup sessions before the actual match. This could have been purely for demo purposes.
  • There were two rounds, which may have been for demo purposes.
  • The ink has subtle differences.
  • On the D-Pad, there was a function to "signal" your teammates, probably similar to a beacon.
  • The gamepad screen originally had a button to toggle gyro controls on and off. This is in a different menu in the final game.
  • Certain graphical effects like moving through ink were more simple.
  • The music for the last minute of the match is completely different from what is in the final version.
  • The tape graphic at the end of a battle is also different. Orange instead of Yellow.
  • The orientation on Judd during the results is angled more up instead of straight on. His animations are also pretty different.
  • The victory and defeat animations seem different or slightly unpolished. There is no animation for the mouthes at this time.

Single Player

  • Retry meter has five retries instead of three.
  • Octosnipers went under a re-design. Probably since they looked a bit like they were in gimp suits.
  • Sunken Sea Scrolls were sheets of paper.
