Notes

From a recent interview with Chris Sutherland:

One year spent on Dream.

SNES era

Dream started because of Donkey Kong Country - inspired by pre-rendered visuals. They thought it might be possible to create DKC quality visuals in real-time on Nintendo 64.

3D world was created with lots of flat sprites that looked really nice when scaled, but moving the camera around ruined the effect/caused glitches.

N64 era

Twelve Tales being developed at the same time as Dream, inspired to go for open environments and 3D polygons. Bear was put in around this time, added jump, added double jump, wings, backpack, bird inside. (Progression of the idea into BK)

Couple of sections running in-game:

1. play as a boy, had to rescue a dog. "Dog, I can hear a dog down there! Better see if he's alright." Trolls came in and chased the boy and dog.

2. Vertically scrolling level, falling down a hole avoiding obstacles.

More of an adventure game than a platformer, going around talking to people instead of primarily platforming. Edison was voiced by Chris Sutherland.
