There are 10 hidden messages in the game, all sharing the same base trigger.

The first one, "DO NOT ERASE !" is the default message for erasing the text at the start of each round.

The other 9 messages can only be triggered by holding the P2 Fire button while erasing text, and the messages displayed depend on the current area:

  • Max Hearts
  • 990 coins

Additionally, the timer will be set to 990 seconds. Note that this only works for hearts that come from the small yellow boxes.

Mortal Kombat

MK1EJBMenu.png

The EJB Menu is an alternate test menu that can be accessed through this button code in attract mode:
1P Block (×5), 2P Block (×10), 1P Block (×2), 2P Block, 1P Block (×2), 2P Block (×3), 1P Block (×4).

(Converted to letters, these numbers spell out "EJB ABCD".)

Note that the timing on this code is extremely tight.

Mortal Kombat II

MK2EJBMenu.png

The EJB Menu returned for the sequel:
1P Block (×5), 2P Block (×10), 1P Block (×2), 2P Block (×8), 1P Block (×2)

As before, the timing on the button presses is very tight so you'll probably need to try this more than a few times.

Mortal Kombat 3 & Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

MK3EJBMenu.png

The EJB Menu code returns:
1P Block (×5), 2P Block (×10), 1P Block (×3), 2P Block, 1P Block (×2), 2P Block (×2), 1P Block (×3), 2P Block (×3)

The timing on this code, much like Mortal Kombat III itself, is even more ridiculous than the last two games.

Mutant Night

Flip Dip Switch 2:8 (Service Mode) and Dip Switch 2:7 (The first "unused" dip switch in MAME's menu). Then, exit the service menu. This disables the game's object collision detection...which, unfortunately, also includes power-ups.

Psychic 5

Psychic5StaffEasterEgg.png

On the character stats screen, press Down, Down, Up, Right, Right, Right, Left, Left to replace the character stats with developer stats.

Please note that if the code is entered too quickly, it won't register properly.

Rambo III

RamboIIIArcEggLocation.png

There's a very obscure easter egg in Stage 1. To trigger it, the following conditions must be met:

  • Rambo must have full health.
  • Rambo must have zero bombs.
  • Rambo must not have any active power-ups.

About a minute into the stage, a large grey building will appear in the background. Stand between 56 and 72 pixels from the right (Rambo's torso should be in the space between "CONTINUOUS" and "PLAY"), wait until the open door of the grey building is in your crosshairs, then shoot into the door.

RamboIIIArcMomerin.png

This should trigger a special message from one of the game's programmers and the following bonuses:

  • 3,000,000 bonus points.
  • 8 bombs.
  • Big Weapon, Big Sight, and Rapid Fire power-ups for 2 minutes (Though since the Rapid Fire only decrements after the other two run out, it actually lasts 4 minutes)

Return of the Invaders

ReturnOfInvadersCredits.png

To see a set of credits in attract mode:

  1. Press 1P & 2P Left + 1P & 2P Start + 1P & 2P Fire.
  2. Hold 2P Start until the credits appear.

Side Arms Hyper Dyne

SideArmsArcDebugPos.png

There are a number of debugging functions left in the game. All functions require that the Test Mode dip switch be turned on after the copyright screen appears.

During gameplay, various features will be enabled based on the current difficulty dip switch values.

  • Bit 01 / Dip switch A1: Players are invulnerable to enemies and enemy projectiles.
  • Bit 02 / Dip switch A2: Camera coordinates are displayed on the bottom-left corner of the screen.
  • Bit 04 / Dip switch A3: Slow-down function. Game operates at half speed.

If dip switch A4 (the starting life dip switch) is set, the game will operate in double speed. This overrides dip switch A3. Due to processing issues, the game will not always be running at double speed.

Additionally, if Dip switch A5 is set (Bonus life settings 100,000 / 100,000 and 200,000 / 200,000), both players will receive every weapon in the game.

Set the Slot A / Slot B credit settings to the appropriate values to start on a different stage:

Slot B

1 / 4 Credits 1 / 1 Credit Area 3

3 / 1 Credit 1 / 1 Credit Area 6
4 / 1 Credit 1 / 1 Credit Area 7
1 / 1 Credit 1 / 2 Credits Area 8
1 / 2 Credits 1 / 2 Credits Area 9
1 / 3 Credits 1 / 2 Credits Area 10

Space Dungeon

SpaceDungeonCodeDot.png

To see the programmer's hidden credit, hold Up + Left on the left joystick, Down + Right on the right joystick, and 1P Start + 2P Start together. If done correctly, a dot should appear near the bottom of the screen.

SpaceDungeonCredits.png

Let go of the controls, then quickly press Up on the left joystick, press 1P Start, then press Down on the right joystick. After all that, the credits should pop up on screen like space magic.

Tecmo Bowl

TecmoBowlArcCredits.png

Tecmo Bowl's credits screen has one of the most ridiculously convoluted access methods ever.

Buckle up, everybody.

TecmoBowlArcFootballScroll.png
  1. First, all 4 Players need to hold Down (easier to do on an emulator, obviously) and insert a credit before the football on the title screen reaches the end of the screen. The easiest way to do this is to wait for the first high score screen to leave, press any button, then wait for the second high score screen to go away. Holding Down and immediately inserting a credit should work...but the timing for this is still extremely tight.
  2. Next, one player has to get a high score. On the high score entry screen, enter the first two letters of one of the following names: H!K, or, T!C. Move the cursor over to the third letter but do not enter the letter! You have to wait for the time to run out on the high score screen for this to work. Told you this was convoluted.
  3. Finally, Player 4 must hold Button 1 and Button 2 before the title screen appears. The credits screen should follow.

Terra Force

TerraForceDebug1.png

A hidden debug menu can be accessed in this game through the following method:

  1. Hold 2P Up + Button 1 + Button 2.
  2. Keep those buttons held and turn Service Mode on.

Time Slip

At any point during normal gameplay, input the following code: L, R, Down, B, L, R. The screen should quickly fade twice to signify that the code has been entered correctly. This toggles the following:

  • Bullet Level is always at 4.
  • The player always has 8 lives.
  • Pressing the R Button on the 2P controller will skip to the next area of the level.

Pressing the L + R buttons together on the 2P controller while in the game proper will reset the game. However, due to the way this is coded, the game will freeze after the opening credits screen.
