(Explain Dekatamas here). Dekatamas generally seem to function in a way that is similar to a standard V1, albeit with functionality that is much more limited to the player.

Functionality

Upon starting up a Dekatama, instead of going to an animation of an egg, it immediately goes to the download / reset menu, or the time setting screen if there is no save data. After the time setting screen, it immediately jumps to the naming screen, followed by a screen allowing the player to select their Tamagotchi's gender. After selecting a gender, instead of going to another screen with an egg, it immediately starts the player with one of the six Dekatama characters explained in #Unused_Characters. From this point onwards, only the B button functions (showing the player the clock screen). Any attention that the Tamagotchi will need is taken care of automatically - the Tamagotchi cleans and feeds itself, and animations will play more frequently than on a normal Tamagotchi.

Dekatamas can be connected to by another Tamagotchi at any time. What happens next on said Tamagotchi will depend on what version it is, but first the Tamagotchi will jump to the Dekatama's screen and an animation will play out before the Tamagotchi returns to its own device.

Developer Functionality

Debug Mode

Debug mode is accessed in a similar manner to the way it is triggered on other devices. The only effect it has is enabling hyperspeed toggling, and hyperspeed is automatically toggled off when an animation begins playing.

Alternate Characters

The character that is displayed by default can also be changed by shorting certain jumpers on the circuit board. This also effects how the character interacts with a Tamagotchi connecting with it. In particular, Maikutchi appears to have two separate character modes - one where ordinary animations are played out during connection, and one where a "game" is played instead, giving the player a score out of 100 at the end of the game.

Version 3.0 00001

TamaConnection-Ver3-0-00001.png

This version was never released as a standard ROM version and (bizarrely) can only be accessed by performing the region change procedure on certain American V1 devices. In particular, this version is entirely in English, suggesting that this may have been a version intended to be used should Dekatamas be localised. By default, only Burgertchi is the only accessible character. Due to the fact they are installed on a standard V1 board instead of a Dekatama board, there is no known way to switch the characters in this version, so some functionality is still inaccessible. Otherwise, it seems to function identically to a standard Dekatama.

The version seems to be somewhat closer to the European V1 devices (ROM versions 2.0-2.1) than the American versions:

  • Upon performing a ROM test, the connection screen appears identical to the one seen in the previous European versions as opposed to the screen from the American releases.
    • After the ROM test completes, the player will be presented with the usual egg screen they are given when starting a V1. Pressing B will present the player with the usual menus they can expect to see when starting a V1 until they return to the egg screen, where they would normally wait for the egg to hatch. However, the egg never hatches.
  • True to region changing fashion, the date format matches the Day / Month format used by the European releases.
  • The word "SET" is still not present on the time setting screen.
  • When connecting to another device the sign shown on the screen says "ABSENT" in line with the European V1 releases, instead of "AWAY" like the American releases.
