Paradise Blue is an indie RPG, heavily inspired by the likes of Final Fantasy, made by one of the creators of OMORI. It features a detailed job class system and a story involving two groups fighting for control of the island of Azulea.

Hmmm...
To do:
* Cover unused music, sounds, and graphics.
  • Check if the three 'CommonNPC02Face' not present in the 3/28/2009 thumbnail are present in maps before or after that point. Check the billion NPC10 files in Faceset to see which are genuinely never used.

Unused Maps

Hmmm...
To do:
Other unused interior maps.

Intro 3 (Map ID 73)

Paradise Blue-Map0073.png

A bit of an odd room, appearing to be a remnant of an earlier version of the intro. To get it working, Switch 1253: Start needs to be turned on, either via enabling it with F9 when play-testing or adding it to one of the events in the map.

The dialog present is a truncated form of the actual intro, with the context being changed from the Seaside base to the basement of one of the watch towers within Seaside.

The intro starts with a dialog from Amelia:

Amelia:

So, this is the room I chose for the meeting.

You're then intended to walk over to the central area:

Neil:

Are you sure the owner doesn't mind?

Amelia:

Of course not.

Neil:

Is he dead?!

Amelia:

Honestly, just drunk.

Bruno then walks in:

Bruno:

Morning, everyone. I had some time, so I made some plans while at the Inn.

Neil:

That's great! Let's hear it.

Bruno:

Here's the diagram.

Amelia:

So basically, we have to capture the Lord of Marsall, so it'll buy us some time.

Neil:

As great as I am, I would like some help. Are we being offered troops?

Bruno:

We have a few mercenaries that will join you. We'll provide the funds so that you pay them.

Bruno:

One more thing, Abigail asked you to bring back a token that you said you found.

Amelia:

I could do that, it's in the crystal caves and it's on the way.

Drunkie:

See... revenge never... never gets you anywhere. It only only makes you hungry...

Neil:

Woah, he spoke!

Bruno:

Alright, they'll be waiting outside. I wish you luck!

The map itself is one of the oldest ones in the final release, dated 12/29/2008 10:10 PM. For comparison, Seaside's interior maps (Map ID 56), which houses the real version of this area, is dated 7/29/2009 8:08 PM.

Besides having events to examine the bookshelves and a secret path for a treasure, the drunk man's dialog was slightly changed.

Intro 3 Seaside Interior
Drunkie:

See... revenge never... never gets you anywhere. It only only makes you hungry...

Drunk:

See, revenge doesn't get you anywhere... it just makes... makes you hungry.

Unused Santelha Interiors

Paradise Blue-Map0027 Unused Interior.png

Two copies of this area are present within the Santelha interior map. There's no events in them, leaving their purpose unknown.

Notably, the same spot one of these areas occupies is used by the night version of the map for the Snakes headquarters.

Paradise Blue-Map0086 Snakes Headquarters.png

Unused Vila Estelar Basement

An unused version of the final map of Vila Estelar's temple basement, notably containing two guards instead of two security bots, with associated unused dialog and events.

Unused Used
Paradise Blue-Map0077 Unused Basement.png Paradise Blue-Map0080 Used Basement.png

The dialog goes as follows:

Guard:

You're not allowed down here. I don't know how you got in but I'll give you one minute to leave.

Neil:

Oh come on, that's very rude! We're just simply looking around. Whatcha hiding back there?

Guard:

This is not open to the public.

Amelia:

I see, it's an Ancanger! Today is not your lucky day, we're taking it!

Guard:

That sounded like a death wish. Try and get it if you can!

A battle then ensues between two guards.

Neil:

Excellent. Now let's get the Ancangers. Be careful though, some are known to activate

Neil:

and attack if it's set that way.

Amelia:

So you actually learned something in school, huh?

The last bit heavily implies you were supposed to fight the Ancangars before you would obtain their associated abilities. This was removed with the final map, instead having you simply collect it.

Thumbs.db files

In the game's files are hidden Thumbs.db files, similar to the ones in Yume Nikki, which were used by older version of Windows to display thumbnails.

The Thumbs.db files go until roughly the end of June 2009, at which point they stop updating. Thus, any files made during the game's last month of development do not have updated thumbnails, and may contain earlier assets. These files, while often very low quality due to compression, offer a good look at the game's art development.

Note: There are many graphical remnants from other games (Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Final Fantasy V). For brevity's sake, these are omitted unless relevant.

Appears to be a sword wielder of some sort. Ultimate2Test.png 9/4/2006 (17:48:00 UTC) A test of the (unused) second ultimate class. The only discernable differences is the character's outline is bolder, and the casting sprite (second to last column) is different.

Title

TODO

Title3.png 9/6/2006 (4:15:46 UTC) The earliest title screen. Similar to Title2, but the sky is undetailed, the sun is smaller with no refraction on the water, and the trees were moved upwards. Title4.png 9/6/2006 (4:26:32 UTC) Title screen with the same layout as Title3.png, only a deep blue replaces the ocean. May have been intended as a 'night' setting. Title5.png 10/15/2006 (5:22:02 UTC) A title screen very similar to Title2.png, only the black colors are a deep purple. AlexIII.png 8/9/2007 (6:56:04 UTC) A strange title screen for 'Alex III: A Gaming World mockumentary project'. Gaming World was a large hub for rpg maker developers back when this game was made, but is now defunct.

Frame

TODO

SpireExterior.png 11/20/2008 (7:56:12 UTC) The battleback for the Spire exterior. It's identical to the used version, so it was most likely accidentally placed here before being deleted.
