Origins

At first glance, 0.83's textures look very different from the ones that appeared in the final game. However, looking at other textures reveals that the textures stored in 0.83 are actually early versions of the textures used in crypt.utx, a texture had only a handful of textures in the final game, but had a ton of textures in the early 1998 prototype. A smaller version of crypt.utx with some slightly modified textures appeared in Unreal Tournament as crypt2.utx, which was used in the map DOM-Cryptic.
