Overview
V222’s version of DM-Liandri has a completely different layout from the final version. Instead of the action being focused on a giant cylinder in the middle of a large and very tall room, the level takes place in a very large, square area that is surrounded by a huge lava moat. The outer rim, inner rim, and the core of the square can be accessed by the player. The outer rim takes place in a huge rocky cavern with a giant lava pit, while the inner rim and core are much safer and use a futuristic theme similar to the one seen in the final DM-Liandri. Underneath the square is a large area with a neat-looking logo in the center and two hallways that have goodies at the end of them. The only part of v222’s DM-Liandri that managed to make it to the final game are the level’s theme, which is a futuristic underground base in a lava-filled area. The lava cavern that can be seen in the final level is similar to, but not from, the giant lava pool found in v222’s DM-Liandri.
Inner Rim
The player often spawns into the inner rim area. This area is a large, square-like area that contains a lower and upper path. Two sides of the Inner Rim have a ramp that allows people to easily go from the upper to lower paths, and vice versa. However, those on the upper path can hop down to the lower path with ease.
Lower Path
The lower path contains most of the Inner Rim’s ammo and Medkits. On one side of the lower path’s exterior wall is a blast door with “LIANDRI MINING CO.” on top of it and Rocket Launcher ammo. The side opposite of the blast door has a much smaller door that has three purple lights on top of it and some Ripper ammo nearby. Both of these doors lead to the Outer Rim area, which will be covered later. There are several pillar like-structures found on this path. The lower path has an entrance to the Lower Level in front of the blast door, while the purple light door has a roundabout way to enter the Core area. Four Rocket Packs can be found on the side of the lower path with the blast door, three Ripper ammo boxes can be found near the purple light door’s side, a BioRifle and BioRifle ammo is on one of the ramps that connect the lower and upper paths, and there are a ton of Medkits scattered throughout the lower path.
Upper path
The upper path contains an Enforcer with two clip ammo pickups on one corner and a Shock Rifle with two Shock Rifle ammo pickups on another corner. Three of the four sides have entrances to the Core area.
Core
The Core is the center of the level and consists of two floors; lower and upper. The most noticeable thing about it is the series of pillars in the very center of the core that slant when they get past the upper part of the Core. The Core can be easily accessed from the Inner Rim’s upper path, as there are three entryways there that lead to the Core.
Lower Core
The lower floor has a Ripper, two boxes of Ripper ammo, and a pair of AntiGrav Boots. The Ripper and its ammo are located in one corner, while the AntiGrav Boots are located in another corner. The outer part of the lower Core has turquoise lighting. The dead center of the room has nothing in it, but near an exit with turquoise lighting fixtures is a nifty elevator that leads to the upper Core area.
Upper Core
The upper Core doesn’t have a lot of stuff in it. It doesn’t have any special lighting and the areas beneath the pillars are somewhat dark. After getting off the elevator, the player will end up in front of two staircases. Both of them lead to a Body Armor in a room that has green lighting. On top of one of the pillars is an Invisibility powerup that can only be reached through clever use of the Impact Hammer to jump further than usual.
Elevator Room
On the opposite end of the Body Armor staircases is a small room with red lighting that has two Medkits in it. The left and the right sides have openings the player can hop down into. When they hop down, they’ll find that they’re in a tiny room that has an elevator on each side, a box-like shape in the center of it, and no colored lighting. Just past the elevators is an opening that leads to the Inner Rim’s lower path. Assuming that the player is looking at the room by coming into it from the lower path entrance, the left elevator leads to an opening on the Inner Rim’s lower path, while the right elevator leads to the upper Core.
Outer Rim
The Outer Rim is a huge underground area that serves as the outer rim for the base. It is surrounded by a gigantic pool of lava and a rocky structure that circle the Outer Rim. A lava fall can be seen pouring from nearby rocks. On the other side of the area are metal walls with light fixtures on them. Pillars with green lights in them can be found throughout the Outer Rim. Now that the Inner Rim and Core have been explored, it’s time to take a look at the most interesting-looking part of the level; the Outer Rim. The Inner Rim has two ways to reach it; the blast door and the purple light door. The purple light door has the most interesting stuff right off the bat, so going there first is a good idea.
Front Side
After going through the purple light door, the player will end up in a small room that has “ALL PERSONNEL MUST WEAR SAFETLY GEAR” above two exits. Going through one of the exits will have the player end up in the Outer Rim proper. The first thing that can be seen is a Rocket Launcher on a pedestal with two Rocket ammo packs on the left and right of the pedestal. Beyond the Rocket Launcher are signs that have either “HAZARD” or “DANGER” on them.
Right Side
Facing the front of the signs, taking a right will have the player end up in an equally large area that has nothing in it at first glance. However, looking over the edge will reveal a ledge with a Rocket Launcher underneath the area. This will be discussed later.
Back Side
Following the path will have the player end up where the Inner Rim’s blast door would lead to if it was used. Besides the blast door and the “ENTRANCE” signs on the ground in front of it, the only new thing here is a Big Keg O’ Health on the right side of a pillar that the player faces if they were to enter the Outer Rim from the blast door.
Left Side
Continuing, the player will end up in an area that looks similar to the empty area they passed through at first glance, but has two interesting things. First, there is a Pulse Gun embedded into the ground and two Pulse Gun ammo cells near a pillar. Past the Pulse Gun is an artificial-looking porch. The secret behind it will be revealed in the next paragraph.
To the Lower Level
Going right will send the player back to the area with the Rocket Launcher. However, there’s one more important part of the Outer Rim that still needs to be explored. On the right side of the area where the purple lights door leads to, there is a pathway between a HAZARD and DANGER sign. Going down this path will have the player end up in a small brick room with a Shield Belt, some metal pillars, brick walls, and a door that uses the same texture the Inner Rim’s blast door uses. This is the porch seen earlier. Going through the door will send the player to the final area of the level; the Lower Level.
Lower Level
The Lower Level is the last part of v222’s DM-Liandri. The most interesting thing about it is its center. After going through the door from the Outer Rim, the player will end up in a long hallway with yellow lights and slanted metal pillars between parts of the wall. There’s nothing here, so going through it as fast as possible is a good idea.
The Logo Room
At the end of the hall, there is a metal octagon with several openings in it. Going through the openings will have the player end up in an area with a really cool-looking design in its center. The design vaguely looks like the Rebel logo from ‘’Star Wars’’. In the middle of the design is a pillar that has a Flak Cannon and two Flak Cannon ammo pickups around it.
UDamage and Rocket Launcher
On the other side of the logo room is another hallway with yellow lights. However, this one is a little more interesting, as there’s an UDamage hidden in the middle of it. One of the walls in the middle of the hallways has two cut-outs for the metal pillars seen in the rest of the hallway, but does not have metal pillars in them. Going through either of the cut-outs will reveal a UDamage. The end of the hall has a Rocket Launcher and two Rocket ammo packs while facing the Outer Rim’s rocks and lava. However, it seems that the Rocket Launcher’s perch is long enough that a crafty player could hop from the item-less part of the Outer Rim to the Rocket Launcher perch in order to avoid trouble.
To the Inner Rim
Between the two yellow paths, facing the bottom part of the design in the center of the Lower Level, is a short path with brown walls that leads to the Inner Rim’s lower path.
Music
V222’s DM-Liandri uses a different music track than the final’s. V222’s DM-Liandri uses the track SaveMe, while the final game’s DM-Liandri uses Razorback.
