Overview

DM-Tutorial is completely different in v222 than it is in the final game. Instead of being a symmetrical square-like level that is pretty tall, v222’s DM-Tutorial is an oddly-shaped level that is much less tall than its final counterpart. This version of DM-Tutorial uses completely different textures as well.

V222’s DM-Tutorial can be divided into two parts; the pillar room, and the barrel room, based on a wall on the right side of the level. The pillar room makes up the majority of the level, while the barrel room is much smaller, but contains destroyable barrels and the Shock Rifle, the only weapon in the level.

Similarities with the Final Version

Shock Rifle

The Shock Rifle and its 4 packs of ammo are in this build, but are behind three large bars instead of being inside a cage. When the tutorial is ready for the player to hold a Shock Rifle, the bars open.

Barrels

There are three barrels in the level that are meant for target practice, but the barrels are arranged differently. Two of the barrels are on one side of the barrel room, while another is on the other side. The final game spreads them out and puts them between pillars.

Water

Most of the level has water around its rim, but the water is green, not blue.

Pillars Room

The main feature of the room is two pillars in the center of the area. These pillars look somewhat like the ones seen in levels like CTF-Gauntlet and the Unreal 1998 prototype’s crypt levels. On one side of the pillars is a bridge that leads to a dead end with nothing in it. The other side leads to a rounded room in the back of the area. As usual, there’s nothing in the rounded room nor the pillars room.

Barrel Room

The barrel room is much smaller than the pillar room. The barrel room consists of a small room with a raised floor in the center, three barrels, and a room with the Shock Rifle and ammo across a small bridge. The Shock Rifle and ammo are behind a gate that is meant to open during the tutorial, like in the final game.
