Hey, sorry about the mess. I've honestly never contributed to a Wiki and even though I'm a web designer, I've never touched Wiki formatting and such. - User:TheOrder

Wikis are stupid and confusing. :|
I suggest you take a look at some of our featured articles and examine how they're structured in order to learn the ropes. --BMF54123 15:31, 12 September 2012 (EDT)

Sorry, I thought it was a leftover mistake by me. I should have checked the edits history. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ganon (talk • contribs)

Sorry about the categorization stuff the other day. -Hacc

Popular Request

What exactly constitutes "popular request" when it comes to deleting articles without the delete-request tags? I'm not seeing anything on the forums, either, though admittedly I haven't looked far.

In addition, how hasn't this new low-content rule been applied to the CD-i games that only have their abstract/bibliographic/copyright data listed and nothing else? -TheKins 00:12, 29 January 2012 (EST)

There's the IRC channel as well, though I for one kind of disagree with the "delete game pages without lots of content" ideal. I dislike having to draw lines for what has enough "content" --Xk-sig.png Xkeeper (talk) 00:34, 29 January 2012 (EST)
I asked for the three pages to be removed for two reasons:
- They are emulated ports of previously released games, and thus should not have their own pages (see: Virtual Console re-releases)
- The only content specific to these ports was a header for the emulator's language file. This is about as noteworthy as compiler strings for PC games, honestly. It's hardly unused content. 犬夜叉(Inuyasha) 00:55, 29 January 2012 (EST)
That's weird. I could have swore I asked BMF. Why am I getting answers from people who aren't BMF? -TheKins 01:45, 29 January 2012 (EST)
Because they were in the official IRC channel when this discussion happened, and are capable of giving the same answers I would have. Kindly tone down the attitude a bit, thanks.
Anyway, Inuyasha nailed it: it's a copyright header for a file full of language strings for a Genesis emulator. It's about as exciting and relevant as a program's "About" box, and IMO does not qualify as "unused" content. As for the CD-i abstract/bibliography/etc. files, we've been trying to decide what to do with those as well. If you're so concerned about such administrative matters, feel free to join the IRC channel and bring them up there. --BMF54123 16:28, 29 January 2012 (EST)
Okay. Thanks for the explanation. -TheKins 01:26, 30 January 2012 (EST)

Just Wondering

In the Call of Duty: Black Ops page you said that "images lazily shoved into a gallery".Are galleries not allowed here? User:AK47Productions

Image galleries are not an acceptable substitute for actual effort here. We'd prefer that you spend some time putting images into appropriate sections, rather than dumping them into a giant pile. There's a reason most of your pages are tagged with the {{sucks}} template. --BMF54123 20:48, 13 February 2012 (EST)

IRC

Is Badnik down for some reason, or is it just me and I got blocked somehow? I got a cryptic message just before being booted, and have been trying for over an hour unsuccessfully to get back on. Hey, dude. I didn't made anything with your stuff, I only added some info of the unused code. Sorry if I did something I shouldn't!!! --Gabrielwoj And I will add one more thing, it's an image.

Quick Question

Hi, I have a quick question regarding the edit summary for Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon where you called me a horrible person. I understand the AIDS thing, but how am I a horrible person for referencing YouTube Poop? Did you have a bad experience regarding YTP or something?

P.S. I apologize for coming across as rude.

Sound file types

Are OGG sound files mandatory on here or can other types such (for example mp3 or wav files) acceptable as well - AK47Productions

Just OGG files, please. --BMF54123 06:52, 18 April 2012 (EDT)

KOF 2001

Hey man, I was wondering about something I read on another user's page - you mentioned that there was a KOF2001 page, but it appears to be gone. I was planning on looking into the game, since a lot of NeoGeo games have leftover content from other projects. What did that page contain? // Foxhack 14:32, 22 April 2012 (EDT)

I believe it contained inaccurate information; specifically, they were some graphics that Matheus said were unused, but it was proven they were actually used and it seemed to be more of an emulation error. --From: divingkataetheweirdo 15:45, 22 April 2012 (EDT)
Hm, I see. Well, if that's the case, is there any way for me to look at that info so I don't end up adding it by accident again? I haven't begun working on the game yet, but it'd be good to have those notes on hand if available. :) // Foxhack 16:18, 22 April 2012 (EDT)

OK

Thank you for the notification. I'm sorry, I am new here... could you rename the files for me, please?. --Acenitro 18:02, 13 May 2012 (EDT)

I have a problem. I uploaded the title screen for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 but I can't find a good size. There are only 2 versions avaliable, one is big, and the other is small, I uploaded the small one but you deleted it. What shall I do? --Acenitro 20:04, 18 May 2012 (EDT)

Leave it alone until someone can get a proper emulated shot. --BMF54123 20:18, 18 May 2012 (EDT)

Reply

Because Super Mario Wiki does it. Also, it is basically removing junk space in the image only effecting its memory amount (not the image itself). I don't know. I do it because I am bored. Squirreldroid 20:25, 16 May 2012 (EDT)

a) We're not Super Mario Wiki. b) Every time you replace an image, it duplicates the old one and puts a new entry in the Recent Changes log, so you're actually wasting MORE space than if you had left it alone.
There are lots of things you could be doing to noticeably improve the wiki. Shrinking a bunch of images by a couple hundred bytes really isn't one of them. --BMF54123 20:31, 16 May 2012 (EDT)
Not to butt in... but you might want to take a peek at his image optimizations. He converted some animated GIFs into PNGs. :\ // Foxhack 20:43, 16 May 2012 (EDT)
I've decided to take your advice. I created a new article if it helps out. Squirreldroid 20:44, 16 May 2012 (EDT)

Blanking Talk pages

It should be noted that User:Flying Omelette blanked both her user page and removed her comments from her talk page. --From: divingkataetheweirdo 15:52, 16 June 2012 (EDT)

Yeah, that was right around the time she left both the wiki and the forum. Since I knew the chances of her returning were slim, I didn't bother reverting the pages. --BMF54123 04:03, 17 June 2012 (EDT)

Giga Bowser gif

"the least you could have done is cropped the image to a much more manageable size; this is just lazy and unacceptable". The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ds22 (talk • contribs) You know, this was the first time I made a .gif, and the last time I do this site a favor.

Sorry, I just thought that cropping the excess crap out of a gigantic GIF animation would be common sense. I don't upload my entire desktop + YY-CHR window when documenting unused graphics. --BMF54123 16:51, 30 June 2012 (EDT)
First of all, it's not my entire desktop, it's the animation + UI.
Second of all, this was the first time I made a .gif, to which I'm fairly new to.
So I'm sorry I uploaded a huge .gif, but saying that I'm just lazy while I put good effort into it and wanting to help expend the article is just insulting.--Ds22 17:46, 30 June 2012 (EDT)
You should have checked the talk page first. We discussed having a gif, and the reason why we didn't need one. --Peardian 21:48, 29 June 2012 (EDT)

Vague Images

I have renamed the images and am re-uploading them now. Please remove the old, vaguely named ones. Thanks! PatSter21 19:27, 13 July 2012 (EDT)

Unlicensed Games

I suggest a new option like "|unlicensed = Yes" to the bob, instead of the whole "Unlicensed SYSTEM" category. Thought it will be harder to split unlic games by consoled, but at least they will appear with the rest of licensed games for certain console in the same list, and there is no need in separate unl category for every other game system. currently it appears as subcat in such list, like "U Category:Unlicensed NES games", and cannot be accessed from the listst with more than one pages directly from the first page... ;( --Cah4e3 00:50, 17 July 2012 (EDT)

I realize it's not an ideal solution, it was mostly done to keep the incoming waves of garbage unlicensed games from cluttering up the main NES listing. We'll try to work on something more appropriate later. --BMF54123 02:07, 17 July 2012 (EDT)
Couldn't a sortkey work? Something like ° to have them appear at the very end after all the regular NES games. They would still appear in the same category, but be visually separated (and you could add a link to jump right to that part of the category listing). -- Sheeza 07:48, 17 July 2012 (EDT)
That sounds even hackier than what we're currently doing, unless I'm misunderstanding... --BMF54123 13:21, 17 July 2012 (EDT)

Weird Namespace Thing

I wasn't sure where to ask this, but why are "Catgirl" and "Meow" two of the namespace options in the recent changes page? I don't really get that, being rather new and all. --SpongeBat1

Hell if I know. Probably Xkeeper being a dork. --BMF54123 04:30, 21 July 2012 (EDT)

Something To Look Into

It has come to my attention that it is possible to edit someone else's user page. Someone should look into that before some trolls stir up mischief. --SpongeBat1 19:57, 7 August 2012 (EDT)

That's...not a bug... <_< --BMF54123 20:00, 7 August 2012 (EDT)
I know. I just think that this wiki should make it so that user pages can only be edited by the user. --SpongeBat1 21:28, 7 August 2012 (EDT)

Sonic 2 Nick Arcade

I don't "speculate". I used SonED to apply Chemical Plant Zone's 128x128 tiles and guess what, you get CPZ, no different from what it is in "Marble Zone's" version of the same level. You could debate I was speculating on the 128x128 tiles formation, but isn't that legit? After all what was written before was that the strips of land were "garbage data". That's speculation to me. And it didn't even include that it USED CPZ's palette.

So please, allow me to rollback to my own edit, I'm not here to play some cool guy who just makes up facts. --Capelino 17:55, 16 August 2012 (EDT)

The way you worded it, and your use of "maybe," made it come across as speculatory. Had you added that bit of info about using SonED to apply CPZ's tiles as proof in the first place, I wouldn't have reverted it. --BMF54123 18:11, 16 August 2012 (EDT)

Because my use of "maybe" actually was involving "fair" speculation, as I said the broken 128x128 patterns don't resemble/point at anything in the final game. I added all the facts that are proven to be true and thus they generated more legitimate questions. You're right about that I could've included my use of SonED in the section, but I personally think it would've sounded lame for a coherent wiki page, as I don't recall many other (sonic-related and none) pages referring at any tools used to view palettes or prove the tiles pointed at something. My first edit was the original game's page, and MainMemory was kind enough to fix the some assumption mistakes I made with his own discoveries, but even he didn't say his sources. I thought it to be fine. But right now if you want me to tell my sources (even without namign the tool itself) I'll be glad to rewrite it. I'm doing this just for the sake of knowledge, because knowing a little of the mechanics in the game you begin to wonder why some things are as they are, and certainly "randomly arranged graphic data" isn't an answer, and wouldn't you guess it, it may be not that randomly arranged. Even MISSINGNO, to name one, has been referred to as a glitched pokémon but in the end it had his meaning and motivation.
Sorry for being so prolix, I just want to make clear I'm not a kiddo and I won't be acting as one if I happen to make further (and passionate!) contributions, because I love this site. I'm not angry or anything ^^ (and I should triplecheck my edits, because two times isn't enough it seems). --Capelino 18:57, 16 August 2012 (EDT)

Luigi's Mansion NTSC Code

I hate hoarders as well, but I spent 3 days converting that code. I'll take an Amazon Gift Card if you really want the code. We can talk about it on my talk page. --Wellington2k 2:56, 4 September 2012 (EDT)

Hahahahahahahaha NOPE. Get out. --BMF54123 22:30, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
Hey! It's guy you banned. Sorry for the trouble I caused, and I forgive you for the stuff wrote on my page. Anyhow, I'd just like to say that I'm quite useful here. I've written more than half of the Luigi's Mansion article and gotten images to go with everything. I'd like you to consider un-banning me, I'll never ask for a handout here again. Thanks for you time. (Preceding unsigned comment by Wellington83)
I'm still not sure you fully understand why you were banned. All of the information on this wiki is free. Everyone that has contributed thus far has done so in their own free time, without any kind of compensation. None of us get paid to do this. For you to come along and demand payment for a game enhancer code..it's basically a huge slap in the face, and it made a lot of people really angry. No one I've talked to yet wants you to come back.
Feel free to respond, but I'm sorry to say you may have burned all your bridges. --BMF54123 20:19, 21 September 2012 (EDT)
I am so sorry man. I didn't know this would cause such a stir. I wasn't thinking like that. I totally understand what your saying. And, yes, I probably have burned all the bridges... What do you think I can do to get un-banned, if it's even possible? (Preceding unsigned comment by Wellington83)
Release the NTSC code. Glisp 21:19, 21 September 2012 (EDT)
I'd have to be un-banned first, have LBP08 and Wellington2k pages unlocked, and get full credit for the code. (Preceding unsigned comment by Wellington83)
I saw how you went "I want reimbursement!", and it made me sick – you did something profoundly stupid, so you got banned. And I don't think you'll be un-banned anytime soon, partly because you could well end up holding something beneficial for ransom again...like what you're doing right now, actually (not for monetary gain, but it's the same concept). You really only have two options at this point: 1) put on some big-boy pants and release the NTSC code right here (the only way you could save face; besides, it needs to be verified), or 2) take your ball and go home. -WarioBarker 16:24, 23 September 2012 (EDT)
I totally understand! I will release the code here in a few days (I've got to get it from my computer): http://board.gscentral.org/retro-hacking/44262-2.htm
I expect my accounts un-banned and the talk pages opened. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wellington83 (talk • contribs)
Okay, that's enough, all of you.
I don't care at this point whether you release the code or not; it's honestly not that important. Your demands to have your accounts unbanned (why do you have three accounts, anyway?) are really rubbing me the wrong way, and I really don't feel like unlocking the pages just so you can erase them and act like nothing happened.
It's pretty clear that you're still unwanted here, so you may as well just leave. --BMF54123 00:30, 24 September 2012 (EDT)

Sorry

The console that was missed was a Pong console released in Japan in the late 70's called TV Game 6. Not writing an edit summary was me being stupid. I'm really sorry that my edit was apparently pointless. I do have useful stuff to contribute, it's just I've been so busy I never really get the time. I promise that next time I edit, it will be something useful. Supermariosomething 19:02, 11 September 2012 (EDT)

Someone else did the revert, and I assume that person doesn't know about the TV Games line as well... and given that it's a line of consoles, I'm not exactly sure how to count those =P - Andlabs 19:49, 11 September 2012 (EDT)
No, it WAS me that reverted the pages. >_>
I'm really not sure I want to count those previous discrete-logic games as proper consoles. They were a dime a dozen back then. Maybe we can slip in a mention of them on the NES page, at least. --BMF54123 19:58, 11 September 2012 (EDT)

While browsing the Spriters Resource, I came across these seemingly unused graphics. Are they unused? Just thought I'd ask you, since you're kinda the smartest guy on TCRF. --SpongeBat1 18:47, 14 October 2012 (EDT)

I'm hardly the smartest... <_<
Anyway, I don't know if they're used or not, I've never played the game before. Sorry. --BMF54123 23:22, 14 October 2012 (EDT)
Oh. Well, I've played it, and I've never seen them. Perhaps they're early microgame select icons? --SpongeBat1 09:35, 15 October 2012 (EDT)
Actually, those are the books used in the Picture Book menu in Warioware Inc. Mega Party Game$. This video is the first one I could find that shows them. --Sebmal 19:52, 16 October 2012 (EDT)

Wrecking Crew minigame

What was that image that was uploaded? And why do you say they do not exist? You mean the graphics or the files? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hiccup (talk • contribs)

The image 989Nintendo898 uploaded was just a blurry copy of an NES Wrecking Crew sprite sheet. There are no Wrecking Crew sprites in the ROM. I don't know where this rumor of an "unused minigame" started, but it's obvious just from looking at the files in the archives that wrecking_crew is the internal name for "Coincentration". --BMF54123 03:47, 22 November 2012 (EST)

Can I Add These Textures To The List?

Grand Theft Auto IV contains a texture showing an early build of Middle Park. While it is technically used in the game as a picture in random offices, it is hard to see and isn't very detailed. Scan or Screenshot?

I want to add a section to the Perfect Dark article mentioning that the game engine supports attaching hats to character models like GoldenEye. All of the hat models have been deleted from the game, so I think the best way to show this feature off would be to use a pre-release screenshot:

Snazzy Hat Screenshot

It's the only decent shot of a hat in Perfect Dark that I know of, and the fact that it's clipping through his head demonstrates why hats were cut. Just wondering if I should categorize this as a screenshot or scan when I upload it? It comes straight from Rare's website, but it's got their logo on it, and it's not perfect resolution (they probably cropped the width to hide a rendering error at the edges of the screen, height might be because they took it in widescreen mode, but who knows). --Dragonsbrethren 01:41, 28 January 2013 (EST)

Categorize it as a screenshot. Scan is only for actual scanned print materials. --BMF54123 01:11, 29 January 2013 (EST)
Gotcha, thanks. --Dragonsbrethren 05:13, 29 January 2013 (EST)

N64 Screenshot Resolution

Hey again. I'm not sure if you saw this or not, but I raised a question about N64 screenshots over on the image help article's talk page: Help_talk:Contents/Images

I'm kind of hesitant to add any more screenshots until I know for sure whether I should be using the resolution it's rendered at or the res the console is outputting. I know for older consoles you'd definitely want the rendered res, but I'm not sure what to do in cases like Perfect Dark's hi-res mode, where it's clear they intended for the image to be stretched vertically. --Dragonsbrethren 17:18, 4 February 2013 (EST)

We generally prefer the actual resolution of a console's hardware (unless an image is super-stretched, like 640x240, in which case you'd double the vertical res to make it 4:3). --BMF54123 17:24, 4 February 2013 (EST)
That's what I figured, I just wanted to make sure before I started uploading screenshots at those resolutions. Thanks for the answer. --Dragonsbrethren 17:48, 4 February 2013 (EST)
I ended up uploading the hi-res mode shots unscaled anyway because I thought it made for a better comparison image. I do have scaled copies I can upload instead if you disagree. --Dragonsbrethren 20:19, 4 February 2013 (EST)

Provoking the admins by summarizing your edits with statements like "BMF, eat your heart out," is probably not worth the risk. --GlitterBerri 19:52, 4 February 2013 (EST)

As you might have seen, I made a mess on the image I uploaded. I got a new version that I think looks better, but it's not showing up after I upload it... what have I done wrong? WhoIAm 11:02, 6 February 2013 (EST)

Reupload it, then when it is uploaded. Refresh the page that it redirects to. Chaossy - The Computer Geek 12:24, 6 February 2013 (EST)

LOL

I can't believe my referring to Inuyasha as an admin was what reminded you to make him an admin after all this time :P You mah favrit admin. 404 User Not Found 16:04, 10 February 2013 (EST)

No, it just reminded me to check his rights. I thought I made him an admin a long time ago. --BMF54123 16:08, 10 February 2013 (EST)

Question about Cheat Codes

Before I blab, I did read [1] but I still have a question about Cheat Codes on this wiki. I thought it would be best to ask an Admin just to prevent myself from doing something stupid. I have created a bunch of cheat codes for the game 999[2]. These codes would allow a person to start a new game at any novel section or puzzle section. In other words, you can start a new game at any point of the game(middle, end, 75% through). Being able to load any part of the game without playing the game could be useful for hacking purposes and/or finding more unused content. These codes would be added to a notes page for the game since they aren't main page worthy. May I do this? What is your take on this? --Cuber456 15:11, 15 February 2013 (EST)

Putting them on a Notes page would be fine. --BMF54123 15:12, 15 February 2013 (EST)

.Jpg images and account confusion

I see, and totally understand. All I did was import the images straight from the Combine Overwiki. I personally hate .jpg formatted images, if I created them my self I would have definitely saved them as .png files. I will convert them over and replace the pictures, if it hasn't been done already. Thanks for letting me know :). Now, random other... thing, I just signed in on the wrong account when I made that edit! I was unaware, I apparently have two accounts here. My other one is BannanaWaffles, which is the one I'd LIKE to use, so for now on, I will be making edits on that account. Have no clue how I ended up with two accounts! --THE GMoD 22:36, 18 February 2013 (EST)

On second thought, Might as well just delete the other account, this account has a load more edits then I remembered, so I should probably keep this one. --THE GMoD 22:43, 18 February 2013 (EST)
While I entirely see your reason, that is a little frustrating. Well, leave the stuff the way it is now, its easy enough to view and screencap the models for Half-Life anyways, its not much of a problem. I'll start work on that tomorrow, I guess. --THE GMoD 03:11, 19 February 2013 (EST)
Sorry for the hassle. We just try to follow the rules pretty strictly here. (Also, please be sure to post replies to messages on your talk page on your talk page, to prevent confusion.) --BMF54123 03:23, 19 February 2013 (EST)
Oh, sorry, its always been standard on most "Wiki" websites, that you reply to talk page messages on the persons respective talk pages, so it notifies them of the message, or at least, most wiki sites only notify the person if you reply on they're respective talk pages. --THE GMoD 14:42, 19 February 2013 (EST)

Editor Screenshots

I've got yet another screenshot question. If I take a screenshot in an editor, what should I classify it as when I upload it? --Dragonsbrethren 16:01, 25 February 2013 (EST)

What are you editing? --BMF54123 16:03, 25 February 2013 (EST)
Perfect Dark. I want to show off some pads (places objects can be placed) which are behind map geometry and can't be shown with a normal screenshot. I also thought it would be a good idea to show other accessible pads where the intended object can't be easily determined, such as the ones I describe in Cassandra's office:

Say hello to your new friend! --BMF54123 16:54, 25 February 2013 (EST)
Thanks! --Dragonsbrethren 17:18, 25 February 2013 (EST)
Just so I'm sure, based on the text on the template page, I shouldn't use an editor shot to show off those pads I mentioned in Cassandra's office? They're accessible in-game, I can throw an object on them and they'll work, I just have no idea what was intended to be placed on them. An object placed on the one that appears to be for a chair will end up on top of the desk, too, instead of where the pad itself is. --Dragonsbrethren 17:51, 25 February 2013 (EST)
Don't worry about it. I'm probably going to tweak the rule slightly anyway. I just don't want a bunch of shots from crappy editors with bones and wireframes everywhere because people are too lazy to take proper screenshots. --BMF54123 18:19, 25 February 2013 (EST)
Good to know, thanks again. --Dragonsbrethren 18:23, 25 February 2013 (EST)

Templates

Hey, I felt like messing around with templates and made two that would be useful for the PD Early Text article I've been working on:

  • Change - Highlights text, for drawing attention to changes, with different colors for generic changes, additions, and removals.
  • Textbox - An alternative to the <pre> textboxes, made as a table to fit in better with comparison boxes.

They're not vital to the article, but they'll remove a lot of the markup being used there now and make it a bit clearer for future editing. I was just wondering if you or another admin could take a look at them and let me know if it's okay to move them to the Template namespace if they seem useful to you. I've never made a template before, so I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong in them. --Dragonsbrethren 18:55, 12 March 2013 (EDT)

{{changed}} is nice, though I don't know if it should be one template or three ({{changed}}, {{added}}, {{removed}}; I personally lean toward this because it saves a small amount of typing though it uses more templates). I have no comment on {{textbox}}, though - Andlabs 16:16, 13 March 2013 (EDT)
Either way would work for changes, I don't really have a preference. Textbox is nice two situations: Long strings without linebreaks, where <pre> tags aren't really suitable since they won't wrap text, and multiple strings where some do use linebreaks, which requires a ton of extra whitespace in the <pre> box to keep strings separate from one another. I also think it looks much better on articles, personally. <pre> is nice for code and other things that need a fixed font width, but it sucks for presenting text. --Dragonsbrethren 15:19, 16 March 2013 (EDT)
While we're discussing templates...if a template was made simply to cut down on the use of another template, would it be okay to use? Because I'm thinking of creating some sort of "Obsolete" template, so that we can cut down on the use of the {{delete}} template. It did seem pretty pointless when I first thought of it, so I figured I'd get your opinion first. --AquaBat 16:06, 13 March 2013 (EDT)

Trespasser Stuff

Okay, so recently the fanbase got a hold of a couple of early versions of two of the levels. Jungle Road and Ingen Town. What I want to know is how to go about adding them as they feature objects, layouts, and textures not found in the prototype or the final, such as that Mayan Head's model from Jungle Road. Any suggestions regarding that matter BMF? Glisp 23:35, 15 March 2013 (EDT)

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Deletion

I actually wrote the information in regards to "Tubaki Yayoi" myself. I'm FangWolf.EXE from the BlazBlue Wiki. LucianTheBlaze 03:10, 1 April 2013 (EDT)

Sorry about that. I was going on second-hand information, and we've had a lot of people just rip stuff from other wikis without giving credit in the past, so I assumed the same thing had happened here. I'll fix it. --BMF54123 04:25, 1 April 2013 (EDT)
