I assume it is not possible to recover deleted pages?

Such as this one: http://tcrf.net/New_Super_Mario_Bros./Unused_Objects_and_Enemies?. I kinda needed that page as reference for a new one. --Hiccup (talk) 06:25, 1 January 2014 (EST)

I meant the old revision, sorry. The revision before everything was replaced by an incomplete wikitable. --Hiccup (talk) 06:50, 1 January 2014 (EST)
Sigh. -Einstein95 (talk) 13:22, 1 January 2014 (EST)

How did you get past the 'only for ique ds' screen, while emulating SM64DS?

I tried a google search, yes. --Hiccup (talk) 06:57, 1 January 2014 (EST)

Asia release in Bob

Thanks for that, it's exactly what I needed for my Pokémon Bank page.

...Or, at least I figured. Which begs questions:

  • Should it be used for when a game is released simultaneously in Japan and other Asian countries?
  • Should Japan be included?
  • Is Korea included? (you specifically mentioned China and Taiwan, so I wasn't sure)

--AquaBat (talk) 14:29, 26 January 2014 (EST)

I see no reason not to answer "Yes" to all of the above. Honestly, I made it for games which GameFAQs lists as "Asia" and where individual region release dates (for China, Taiwan, etc.) are unknown. -Einstein95 (talk) 14:34, 26 January 2014 (EST)
That makes sense. --AquaBat (talk) 14:39, 26 January 2014 (EST)

Proto:Mario Kart DS

Is it not acceptable to make people aware of something... to suggest that they dump it? --Hiccup (talk) 03:43, 27 January 2014 (EST)

In an ideal world, that might work, but proto hoarders are not going to be suddenly swayed by a todo on a wiki page. Besides, I'd rather not slap a bunch of "there is an undumped prototype" todos on a bunch of pages. --BMF54123 (talk) 03:47, 27 January 2014 (EST)

Pokémon Bank release categorization

Not to argue, but are you sure Pokémon Bank should be categorized as being released in 2013? It was only available for a few hours before being taken down. --AquaBat (talk) 18:18, 30 January 2014 (EST)

We always categorise games under their first release date, no matter how long it was until the servers crashed. -Einstein95 (talk) 18:20, 30 January 2014 (EST)
I suppose that makes sense. --AquaBat (talk) 18:25, 30 January 2014 (EST)

Why did you remove it? I've said to remove the page i've made, not remove the image. --JeanMich02 (talk) 17:34, 18 Feburary 2014 (EST)

Tecnosoft MSX text encoding

Are all the Tecnosoft MSX game secret messages using the Shift-JIS encoding or are some using another? (Also I said Tecnosoft for their Genesis games while you said TecnoSoft; now we're going to huave to merge the categories, but NOW which one?) - Andlabs (talk) 12:50, 25 February 2014 (EST)

According to their website, they used "TecnoSoft", stylised as "Tecno Soft" in their logo. As for the encoding, all but one of the messages (Herzog) were in Shift-JIS, which was using the characters from the MSX JP BIOS. -Einstein95 (talk) 13:25, 25 February 2014 (EST)

Shiny-locks in XY

It's already been tested and proven that none of the Legendary Pokémon in XY can be shiny. What "hard proof" exactly are you looking for? There isn't much you can do to "prove" it other than try yourself, which has been done several times over to no avail. And what do you mean by "means of obtaining them"? Powersaves has the capability to hack in the Shiny versions, which is what the todo was for. I specifically didn't add Smealum's renders or any other pictures to avoid arguments of not having proof of their coloration or whatnot. --AquaBat (talk) 20:27, 25 February 2014 (EST)

The "proof" would involve that the Shiny textures are still in the game, and showing them like the other pages do. But the only "proof" you have are other people's works of trying it, and a hacker who has shown they are in the ROM, but hasn't shown his methods. Now, why would you add information to a page that you have no means of actually independently proving yourself, rather than relying on the word of others? The sheer existence (or lack of) of something in a game does not merit inclusion in an article based on that fact alone. -Einstein95 (talk) 20:35, 25 February 2014 (EST)
Several other people have hacked in the Shiny legends, thanks mainly to Powersaves. I'm sorry to say that I don't have a Powersaves yet and am unable to prove it by myself, but several other people have already done so using Powersaves.
The fact that you can't get them normally in-game should be enough to mention it, especially the Kanto legendaries, who HAVE Shiny versions that were only available in previous games. --AquaBat (talk) 21:00, 25 February 2014 (EST)
I've looked into it and found that the Powersaves codes are stored in the server itself, so I can't include a code to help show off the Shiny textures. Can I just take some pictures of my own game and source the Powersaves website? Would I be able to re-add the information then? Also note what I mentioned before about the Kanto legends. --AquaBat (talk) 11:11, 15 March 2014 (EDT)
Okay, curse Datel but what are you going to do. If you could provide pictures and source Powersaves, then yeah, i guess you could re-add the information then. -Einstein95 (talk) 08:56, 16 March 2014 (EDT)
There ya go, just as promised. Didn't bother to source the Powersaves website itself, seeing as pretty much all that site has is a download link to the software and the user guide. --AquaBat (talk) 20:38, 16 April 2014 (EDT)

DSi

Please read the discussion page so you understand why bundling DS and DSi is not a good idea: http://tcrf.net/The_Cutting_Room_Floor_talk:Content_to_expand#DS_and_DSi_are_two_different_things The preceding unsigned comment was added by ReyVGM (talk • contribs)

I am aware why we shouldn't bundle DS and DSi games together. We don't do this for the categories, but having it on one page isn't going to kill anyone, especially when we have no games of the latter console on the page. -Einstein95 (talk) 15:45, 18 March 2014 (EDT)

Sorry about messing that up. It's a different system than I'm used to and I didn't check the recent changes until I'd finished the set. Nintendo consoles

Can I create a template and category for Nintendo consoles? TempleofDreams (talk) 13:27, 4 May 2014 (EDT)

It's best to leave them as they are. -Einstein95 (talk) 14:04, 4 May 2014 (EDT)
Ah, ok... but I already created them. Sorry. TempleofDreams (talk) 14:06, 4 May 2014 (EDT)
In the future, could you at least wait for a response before you go off and do something like this? Otherwise, what's the point in even asking? --BMF54123 (talk) 19:41, 4 May 2014 (EDT)
I thought that doing that wouldn't hurt after I sent him the message, so I did it. I was expecting to someone delete these pages after I received his response. You deleted the template but not the category, right? TempleofDreams (talk) 20:34, 4 May 2014 (EDT)

Prerelease Tags

Hey, uh, do you or anyone else know if there is any way to manually add a prerelease link to the bob? This is regarding the Prerelease:Final_Fantasy_IV page, which links back fine using the prerelease template but the actual page won't link back. Should it just be moved to "Prerelease:Final Fantasy IV (SNES)" in that case? West (talk) 15:07, 7 May 2014 (EDT)

I've moved the page formerly called "Final Fantasy IV (SNES)" to "Final Fantasy IV" as it also covers the PS1 version and added a message about the DS version. This fixes a minor thing that's been niggling at me at the same time. -Einstein95 (talk) 15:57, 7 May 2014 (EDT)

Mario's Game Gallery

If I'm not mistaken, there are two PC versions of Mario's Game Gallery, not counting Mario's FUNdamentals: One for DOS with a lower resolution, and another for Windows 3.1/95 which matches the resolution of your upload. --Mattrizzle (talk) 23:14, 24 May 2014 (EDT)

Re: Star Wars SOTE N64 picture

I decided to use that one as a placeholder because as I mentioned, I have no skills or knowledge in third-party scanning. Also, trying to convert any BMPs from the game's resources'd be kinda stupid, as that'd be re-compressing because of using another image format. --BreakingBenny (talk) 18:30, 30 May 2014 (EDT)

Say, did you know there's a setup32.exe for this game? I found it on YouTube on strelokgunslinger's video, that way you'll not need a virtual machine though will have to copy the contents of the SOTE CD onto a "working" folder for use as an install folder, this procedure would also have to be done with Star Wars Episode I: Pod Racer..... I am so gonna have to get a page for Pod Racer on PC, which was released for both Windows n' Mac.
We'd rather have no picture than a completely wrong picture. --BMF54123 (talk) 18:32, 30 May 2014 (EDT)

Does the formatting of this section suck?

Hey Einstein95, I need to ask someone's opinion on this since I want an opinion that isn't my own. I recently added a whole new section to the 999 page on hidden menus. Does this section look messy or confusing? I'm wondering if it is and/or if there is a better way to format the info in the section. Thanks. --Cuber456 (talk) 23:09, 3 June 2014 (EDT)

Nope, it looks fine to me. Just remember to use internal links, even for jumping to another section like so: [[999: Nine Hours, Nine_Persons, Nine Doors#Debug Menu]]. -Einstein95 (talk) 00:35, 4 June 2014 (EDT)
Ah! For some reason, I always confuse the syntax for internal and external links. Sorry about that. Thanks for checking out the section though. I really do appreciate it. --Cuber456 (talk) 01:46, 4 June 2014 (EDT)

Rogue Squadron title screen, N64

I see you decided to delete my upload of the title screen graphic of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron originally on the N64, but got leftover in the PC version. Maybe I should say to you that I put an amount of time trying to get it to show on my desktop, by moving it back and forth from the Recycle Bin so I could get it easily "exportable"? Many of those supposedly raw images in the game files (with RogueDat 1.0, only version that exists) are in either JPG or TGA formats... Though, I have to be honest that I am not a pro at converting TGA, because I don't think about Photoshop. --BreakingBenny (talk) 19:22, 17 July 2014 (EDT)

He deleted it simply because you oversimplified the file name and he thought it was meant to be a title screen. It wasn't until you made your edit to the page it was made clear that it wasn't intended to be the article's title screen (I've resolved this by renaming RogueSquadron title.png to RogueSquadron PC leftover N64 title background.png). Try to make that a little clearer next time. --From: divingkataetheweirdo (talk) 19:27, 17 July 2014 (EDT)
TGA textures can also be viewed and converted using Paint.NET or Irfanview, both free. -Einstein95 (talk) 19:28, 17 July 2014 (EDT)
By the way, I had converted from TGA with VTFEdit and exported it to PNG. Guess that obviously didn't end up well when importing to VTF first. --BreakingBenny (talk) 13:13, 18 July 2014 (EDT)

How...

did you get that 320x237 resolution for the Majora's Mask title screen? It sure looks sharp and I'd love to replace the old blurry pics with that. -- Sheeza (talk) 16:24, 18 July 2014 (EDT)

Contra 4 Proto

Hey, again. I've been trying to amass a bunch of pre-release material on Contra 4. One thing I noticed is that the gamespot video with Simon Lai, with the July 11 build, is not working on their website. Would you happen to know where else this can be seen? I've also been looking for Gamevideos's preview gameplay videos (they used to be hosted on gamevideos.com, though they may be from 1up.com), as they also show pre-release material. Emjeeman (talk) 13:55, 30 July 2014 (EDT)

Update: I managed to find some of the gamevideo clips, but still looking for the July 11 build footage. Emjeeman (talk) 16:37, 30 July 2014 (EDT)
Update 2: Well now, the only video I need to find is the July 11 build footage. I seem to have gotten pretty much the rest. I got a lot of help at Chinese and Japanese video sites; but now, this July 11 build seems to have been only available at gamespot. Really terrible. Emjeeman (talk) 20:21, 31 July 2014 (EDT)
Yeah, I've only found a couple of (crap) screenshots from that video of the debug menu but not the video itself. If you ever do find it, I'll be happy to reupload it on the TCRFChannel youtube account. -Einstein95 (talk) 20:25, 31 July 2014 (EDT)
Ah, damn. I've been SOL with this video; seems like Gamespot was the only site that hosted it (publicly, at least). According to them, they'll fix the issue sometime later this year, which likely means they won't work on it until the end of the year; though, knowing them, this is probably a low-end priority that gets put on the back burner until 2015. They recently had a site overhaul, so that's probably their focus. It also doesn't help that this video problem affects all pre-2008 videos and it has been around since before the site update. Enough of me ranting; here's to hoping the video resurfaces in some form or another (at which point I'll save a copy ASAP).Emjeeman (talk) 00:05, 3 August 2014 (EDT)
God Damn it, finally recovered the video and have uploaded it to my youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHcSavSLcaQ Emjeeman (talk) 15:56, 27 August 2014 (EDT)

Pajama Sam 3

There was also a PS1 version, which is why it had a platform designation in the first place. Personally I think it was pretty unnecessary to even do that considering nobody has even bothered to look into the PS1 version and probably won't any time soon, so I'll leave it that way for now unless you think we should do otherwise; however, you shouldn't just assume things without doing any research. --Legoking831 (talk) 16:23, 6 August 2014 (EDT)

While there is the PS1 version, it went by the title Pajama Sam: You are What you Eat from Your Head to Your Feet (note the lack of 3). Perhaps you should not assume things, like that an admin didn't do their research, without doing any research. -Einstein95 (talk) 16:29, 6 August 2014 (EDT)
It's still the same game though, and the removal of the 3 is pretty easy to miss for a normal user especially considering the title is already annoyingly long. I would still vote for platform designation if both had pages because honestly, having two pages with dang near identical names only causes confusion. Let's just leave it this way for now though; we'll cross that bridge if we ever get there. --Legoking831 (talk) 16:33, 6 August 2014 (EDT)

I'm sorry if I came off a little rude in that last edit, but my point still stands -- there is no reason to split the computer platforms on the Pajama Sam template. It adds nothing to the template considering all of the games released on Mac OS were also released on Windows and are identical to each other, and they lead to the same page. What's it adding or making it better to split them and just duplicate all but one link? Only one of them is Windows exclusive, and there are no Mac exclusive titles. To me, it looks a lot cleaner and easier to use to combine them. --Legoking831 (talk) 23:19, 6 August 2014 (EDT)

I've done a compromise, where the one Windows-exclusive game gets its own section, to better reflect which games were released on both platforms. Seems silly, but it's the best thing I can do to satisfy both parties. --From: divingkataetheweirdo (talk) 16:34, 7 August 2014 (EDT)
Thank you, I think it works well. --Legoking831 (talk) 17:33, 7 August 2014 (EDT)

Special Page oddities

Hello, Einstein95. I have ask Xkeeper about this, but since they seem to be inactive, I would like to ask you for help. There are a few oddities in the Special pages, specifically in Special:BrokenRedirects. Currently, there are three listings on that page: The first was a Proto for Jurassic Park:Trespasser, the second was a Proto for Rockman Neo, and the third is a Proto for Mega Man Legends. The issue is that the first two are already deleted pages, so they cannot be redirects. The third page is an actual proto page, not a redirect. Since I do not believe I can fix this, would you be able to fix these issues? --Sgv Sth (talk) 15:56, 13 November 2014 (EST)

I am aware of those links on that special page. It appears to be an issue with the database, so I ma unable to fix it. I have already brought this to the attention of the admins that could fix it, but it is currently a low priority at the moment. Thank you though. -Einstein95 (talk) 16:06, 13 November 2014 (EST)

Thanks

Just passing by to say "thanks" for correcting my mistakes. And let me ask you something: why did you edited (in April) the Brazilian Portuguese page of Super Mario Bros. replacing the text in Portuguese by text in Spanish? I was afraid to undo your editions, because I could lose something new that you had insert, so I rewrote the texts in Portuguese line by line. It probably was not the best solution, but now is already done. That's it! See you! Agente Rolf (talk) 21:38, 22 November 2014 (EST)

I did? Oh, I apologize for that, I must have gotten some things mixed up after I accidentally wiped the sections from the translation when updating it to reflect the recent changes at the time. I learned the hard way not to do that. -Einstein95 (talk) 21:54, 22 November 2014 (EST)

I'm happy to use them if they're already up, but when I searched for the pre-release Impa screen, I couldn't find it because it was under some obscure file name. How are you finding them? Or rather, how do you know about them? --Spiritix (talk) 22:15, 22 November 2014 (EST)

Is the OOT3D US demo a proto?

You said so in this post. But I'm not sure if you meant what I thought you meant. --Hiccup (talk) 09:08, 30 November 2014 (EST)

"while the US demo apparently has a few differences." When compared with the EU demo, most of the differences turned out to be single-byte differences. -Einstein95 (talk) 12:06, 30 November 2014 (EST)
Okay, that sounds like its unlikely to be a prototype of any non-demo version. --Hiccup (talk) 16:13, 30 November 2014 (EST)

What was wrong with the "improved" Sonic Rush: z13 level map I uploaded?

I realise it is made by piecing screenshots together, but I see nothing wrong with that, as it appears to be accurate. --Hiccup (talk) 03:52, 3 December 2014 (EST)

Listen, either you're on a permanent fucking vacation, or you aren't. Make a bloody choice. -Einstein95 (talk) 04:12, 3 December 2014 (EST)
I don't think you should have a say in the particular matter of what amount of/pages I edit, to be honest, despite being an admin. It is pretty clear what I am and am not editing from my userpage. I am happy to discuss it, but not with a swearing contest. Please could you answer my question (or I will assume there was no reason for reverting my edit) and leave this (matter that is apparently important to you) for another thread? BTW: I don't know if you are angry with me still, if you are actually concerned that I haven't made a black or white choice if I am editing or not, or if you want me to edit or not. I really don't know why you are taking offence. I am not making any comments directed at anyone in the edit summaries, I was just commenting on the image editing/upload process. I'm not trying to be passive-agressive in this thread, I'm trying to be polite, but it is quite difficult to be; responding to your rude message. If I have done something that has offended you, I apologize. --Hiccup (talk) 04:24, 3 December 2014 (EST)

(another question) How did you extract the SDAT from the MvsDK proto?

I'm also having no luck with other demos. --Hiccup (talk) 15:11, 12 December 2014 (EST)

Poorly made video MK7 unused track

I know, it was recorded with a camera, but what do you want? It is the best I can do. If you want, I can stop apporting to MK7 page... --mh&g (talk) 20:41, 23 December 2014 (EST)

Couldn't Yami could make a direct-feed video? The comments would also be better if they were pannotations or subtitles that could be switched off. --Hiccup (talk) 14:48, 23 December 2014 (EST)
The video is fine for now, the article was just getting a little cluttered with all the embeds. Thank you for your efforts, mh&g. --M64m (talk) 14:53, 23 December 2014 (EST)
I told it to Yami, and she is going to made it. Mariohack&glitch (talk) 15:02, 23 December 2014 (EST)

Contra Adventure question

Are you the one who took the screenshots for the Contra Adventure tcrf article? The colors in the title screen shot are different from what I've seen everywhere else. A good example is the letter "C", which in your shot is noticeably more yellow-orange than what I've seen (red). I was wondering how/where you took if that's the case.Emjeeman (talk) 19:48, 30 December 2014 (EST)

Where else have you seen it? If it's on emulators, then they may have filters and the like. -Einstein95 (talk) 22:52, 30 December 2014 (EST)
I have the game on my PS1; when I saw your screenshot didn't match what I've seen on that, I verified with youtube videos. A quick epsxe test of the game and the colors also match the ones I usually see. Did you capture the shot off epsxe? EDIT: Seems to be a 50-50 affair on youtube, actually.Emjeeman (talk) 23:32, 30 December 2014 (EST)

Translating help!

Hello! Can I ask a question? How to translate pages without "translate" button? Please, help! --AigarEnotov (talk) 02:31, 31 December 2014 (EST)

Ask an admin (like me) to mark the page for translation and a "translate" button will appear. -Einstein95 (talk) 02:36, 31 December 2014 (EST)
Which admin can I ask for this? --AigarEnotov (talk) 14:03, 31 December 2014 (EST)
Please, help! --AigarEnotov (talk) 14:05, 31 December 2014 (EST)
You can ask Einstein95 or anybody from this list. Smoke (talk) 14:20, 31 December 2014 (EST)
