About Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine

Hey, I'm wondering if you know how to hack into the files of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine because i wanna see if I can edit things like the sprites and all that. Thanks BoltznNutz (talk) 00:02, 1 August 2018 (EDT)

I don't, sorry. --BMF54123 (talk) 04:57, 15 August 2018 (EDT)

Looking at GB/C Graphics

Hey, I have been using TileLayerPro to try and see the graphics of Kirby's Dream Land. What I can't figure out is where certain graphics (such as the HUD) are, because most of the tiles are garbled... uh... garbage, or other random objects just layered over things. I want to know if there is anyway to fix this and make it easier and clearer to search through. Sultanofswag89 (talk) 18:52, 7 February 2019 (EST)

I just checked and it looks like the graphics are compressed. You'd have to figure out the format and decompress them before you could make sense of anything. --BMF54123 (talk) 17:22, 11 February 2019 (EST)
Would you happen to know what I would have to do to "decompress" these graphics? --Sultanofswag89 (talk) 19:00, 14 February 2019 (EST)
Probably reverse-engineer the game's decompression routines and write a tool, unless it happens to use a common format that an existing tool already supports. Unfortunately I don't have any experience in doing this (especially for GB games) so I can't be of much help. --BMF54123 (talk) 01:13, 18 February 2019 (EST)

PRGX / Revision X

I'm not sure referring to revisions as "PRGX" is really correct. Nintendo refer to the whole ROM when talking about revisions (as seen in the filenames of 3DS Virtual Console ROMs, for example) and I think the "PRGX" naming is just something from GoodTools... --Hiccup (talk) 06:19, 2 March 2019 (EST)

How exactly does Nintendo refer to them? This is something we've been doing for a long time, and seems to be fairly established in the emulation and ROM dumping communities. I don't like referring to the whole ROM when talking about revisions because it doesn't take into account the fact that the PRG and CHR chips can be different revisions (e.g. PRG revision 1, CHR revision 0). --BMF54123 (talk) 06:34, 2 March 2019 (EST)
Nintendo simply refers to the whole ROM as "0", "1", "2" etc - this is the same for all physical Nintendo games from NES onwards it seems. The PRG and CHR chips do have their own revision numbers, but they are never updated "independently" of each other - only as part of a "whole ROM" revision. I've sent you a DM on discord about this. --Hiccup (talk) 07:23, 2 March 2019 (EST)

Regarding the Soulcalibur III article...

Hi there! I have taken note of many of the ways you have contributed to the Soulcalibur III article, and I realize many of them are in light of some of the content in the article not actually being unused or interesting enough to talk about. I will try to make an effort to have the article lack any such content in future edits. Out of curiosity, would normally nonplayable (but technically used) characters such as Colossus (a boss character who has his own fighting style, a unique weapon for said fighting style, and a character model which is way larger than any other in the game) be appropriate or interesting enough to talk about? And would areas featured in ending cutscenes technically being stages with way different collision detection (e.g. a stage from an ending with stairs you can walk on when normal stages wouldn't feature objects like this) than normal stages be interesting enough to talk about? I do feel like many of these things might be interesting to talk about in the article, but am not quite sure if they would be appropriate, and I do wonder what the limits would be for including content of this nature in articles, thanks! --Jaydenyeah (talk) 16:53, 18 March 2019 (EDT)

Anything that is visibly used by the game generally doesn't count as unused material, regardless of how it's implemented, unless there is ample evidence that the player was originally meant to interact with it in some way. A lot of games store things like title screens or cutscenes as level data as a way to reuse existing code, and while you can technically "play" these levels via hacking, you're obviously not meant to do so. While the fact that you can "play" on them is interesting, it falls outside the scope of this wiki.
This also applies to things like unplayable boss characters or NPCs in fighting games. These are almost always implemented in an identical manner to playable characters (why program an entirely different framework just to handle a one-off character?), and should only be documented here if there is evidence that the character was intended to be playable at some point (e.g. has special moves that are triggered with button combos, unused moves that the AI never triggers, or has some kind of ending implemented). If the game crashes or otherwise behaves strangely when you try to interact with one of these characters, you can be 99% sure that it was not meant to be playable.
Feel free to stop by our IRC or Discord (links are in the sidebar) if you have any more questions about this stuff! --BMF54123 (talk) 18:23, 18 March 2019 (EDT)
Alright, I think I now have a better understanding of what kinds of content actually belong in these articles now, I'll be sure to keep this advice in mind and thanks again for helping out, I appreciate it! --Jaydenyeah (talk) 14:27, 20 March 2019 (EDT)

User subpages

The reason I pulled the trigger on that prerelease article is because I remember discussion of forbidding users from creating subpages that are WIPs of actual articles to be moved into main-space later. But now that I’m looking through archives I can’t find this discussion anywhere. Was this all a hallucination or did this actually become a rule? (in any case I’ll move it to my sandbox which I forgot existed) —AquaBat (talk) 03:12, 25 May 2019 (EDT)

Its not a hallucination. I think it was something mentioned in an edit summary or on discord (maybe by Xkeeper). --Hiccup (talk) 09:12, 25 May 2019 (EDT)

Does this count?

Would Humongous Entertainment's One-Stop Fun Shop games qualify for this site? I thought I read once that art/creation games/programs don't qualify for this site, though I have seen stuff like Nickelodeon Toon Twister 3-D and The Simpsons Cartoon Studio on here. --SpongeBat1 (talk) 20:44, 26 May 2019 (EDT)

I'd need to look into it, as I'm not familiar with it, but if it's not really a game I'd say no. I had actually considered deleting the Simpsons Cartoon Studio page at one point. --BMF54123 (talk) 02:47, 28 May 2019 (EDT)
Ah, I see. On the plus side, that means I won't have to upload or document the metric crapton of unused dialogue. --SpongeBat1 (talk) 20:02, 28 May 2019 (EDT)

1,857 vs. 15

I'm looking at adding info on 15 unused pedestrians (and their dialogue) on the GTA San Andreas page, but due to the sheer amount of voice clips (1,857 to be exact), would it be fine if I compile them into a single file for each pedestrian? TheBluegeek (talk) 18:30, 31 May 2019 (EDT)

Go for it. --BMF54123 (talk) 20:52, 4 June 2019 (EDT)

Apologies for the distasteful screenshot

Dear BMF5412

I would like to deeply apologize for the recent scandal surrounding the addition of a distasteful adult content within the SM Choukyoushi Hitomi Vol. 2/Version Differences page, which lead to the complete deletion of the page. The scandal was caused due to myself not acknowledging the rules and guidelines to this website as a whole, and I am strongly ashamed of my mistakes. On January, I was checking if the screenshots in question was possible to be uploaded onto TCRF with or without any censorship via the Discussion page, getting a 'it might be okay' response from Mr. WarioBarker. So, I assumed that it was okay to upload the screenshots in question. I should have realized that the NSFW template content would only apply until the degree of full frontal nudity and vulgar language. That game crossed the line too much, to the point where it is better seen as 'taboo porn'.Even if this website is important for the videogame preservation, I shouldn't have included the extreme adult content.

Still, I would consider that there are numerous cases where NSFW and NSFL video game which features regional/revisional difference, which is noteworthy to be discussed outside the fields of this Wiki. Based on this instance, I would like to question that, would it be possible/okay to create an alternative variant of the TCRF wiki, which specailizes on those explicit matters?

Thank you for the notice.

MSoldier, September 5th 2019, 10:32(EST)

It's fine. To be fair, the page was created before rule #12 went into effect, and that particular rule is buried all the way at the bottom of the list anyway. We need to do better in making certain rules and guidelines abundantly clear for new or infrequent users.
Anyway, if you really want to start a separate wiki for this stuff, I'm not going to stop you. All I ask is that it not be associated with TCRF in any way. --BMF54123 (talk) 19:40, 5 September 2019 (EDT)

Version Differences editing

Thanks for fixing my problems when editing, it’s just that on the Mega Man Zero 3 and 4 page’s title screen part, the text was supposed to be under, but for some reason, it displayed on the top even if I type it under, I could not fix it whatsoever, so thanks for that. Screenshot Apology

For my PS2 screenshots, the emulator I used was PCSX2 and there was NO screenshot button whatsoever, so instead I had to use Snipping Tool just to get them, I've read the image rules and guidelines today (as well as the regular one some days or months ago), but I don't see any info on Snipping Tool in the page, Is there like a better PS2 emulator that has a screenshot button.

Plus I don't even know if some of my past screenshots were in JPEG or not (I think mostly PNG which is right) and when I replace an image, It displays the past one until later or when I use my other devices (Pokémon Red, Green & Blue was one of them, as I tried to get the Super Game Boy border versions of them, but it displayed the original one but larger and horrible and I used to put Green on the bobscreen part because the Pokémon series section displays as Red, Green & Blue and not Red & Blue).
One more thing, for games that have more versions (like Pokémon or Mega Man Battle Network 3-6) how do you combine them to one screenshot, I used to use MS paint, but before realizing that I shouldn't use MS paint, whoops (although I didn't change the color palletes or anything, just added the other version title screen next to it). Sorry TCRFJNPoop (talk) 17:00, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
Edness-PersonalImg pcsx2 2020-11-06-193355.png
The screenshot guidelines state say that F8 is the screenshot button on PCSX2. Alternatively there's the GSM plugin for Open PS2 Loader that can also take screenshots on a real PS2 (but it's kinda buggy and prone to crashing.) And at that, there is a button for taking screenshots too, unless you're on an ancient version of PCSX2. (I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you're still on 1.4.0 which is like 5 years old at this point) –Edness (talk) 17:41, 6 November 2020 (UTC)

PeerTube Videos

Hi! I've made a more concise and improved video showing the unused car behavior in Ape Escape (relevant article), uploaded onto PeerTube here. What's the best way to go about adding this to the wiki? PeerTube has embed codes, but I don't believe the wiki supports them yet. --Kimimaru (talk) 09:02, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

AFAIK, YouTube is the only supported option right now, so you'll probably have to upload it there. Sorry. --Rusty (talk) 00:30, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

Apologizes for ban evading my late-2015 ban

Hi, I am Chazpelo, a bit more than 5 years ago, I was blocked by you for randomly screwing up pages, 4 years after the ban, I registered my current account, PF94. It appears that this is not allowed, and I broke the rules yet again because this is ban evasion. Well, here's the thing. When I was blocked in late-2015, I was 8 years old. Back then, I didn't exactly knew how to act properly in wikis (got banned on Roblox Wikia for a day iirc, almost got banned from Wikipedia, etc.), Later, in late-2019, when I registered this account, I broke another rule (I think), because at the time I was 12, it took 2 months for me to turn 13 (jan2020).

Basically, am I allowed to contribute to TCRF even though I bypassed a ban that was only caused because I was too young and idiotic at the time? -PF94 (talk) 23:13, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for finally clearing up that edit on Minecraft. Barely any pages actually include the creator's name, so this isn't too out of place. An edit regarding a Pre-release screenshot of GTA: Vice City.

Hi! While there might be a better screenshot than this, I wanted to point out how the replaceimage tag you added mentions how it's a " JPEG, wrong size, watermarked" image.
That's simply due to how Rockstar Games usually released their screenshots in the past, AKA in JPG, PS2 PAL resolution, and the logo of the game (They DID make ones without logos for the sake of magazines and such, but obviously not for every single screenshot). You can check the original image here.

Just wanted to point that out as I can't undo an admin's edit, unless it's okay for you. SimonBestia (talk) 18:18, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

I added that tag nearly ten years ago and things have changed a lot since then (AFAIK we didn't even have prerelease categories at the time). I've moved it to the proper category, but if you come across any other extremely old and incorrect (by modern TCRF standards) tags like that, feel free to fix them. --Rusty (talk) 07:01, 20 November 2021 (UTC)

Sonic Rush Adventure

Hi, I was wondering if I could make a page documenting a dialog difference in the second European version (aka PEGI 3+ version) of Sonic Rush Adventure, only asking about this because I tried to create a page on this game but it says you deleted it in 2013 (of course, that was for something else entirely). Is creating pages that were deleted before allowed if stuff was found or discovered or not?, because I haven't seen info on this anywhere on this site. --TCRFJNPoop (talk) 20:00, 5 August 2022 (BST)

Sorry if this sounds rude but, it's been 17 days and I'm still not sure if creating pages that were deleted before is okay (if something was found and/or discovered of course) or not, I know undoing changes by an Admin is against the rules but I don't know if this applies to previously deleted pages too. Here's what I'm talking about. --TCRFJNPoop (talk) 00:05, 23 August 2022 (BST)
The page was deleted for not actually having unused content (the page mentioned "unused" banners but they were apparently used for download play). If you can find some actual unused content for the page you're free to make it. --Hawk (talk) 23:57, 22 August 2022 (UTC)

There's a difference between documenting leftover assets that were intentionally inserted into a video game by the developers and... reconstructing a fragment of a porn site (one with underage content, natch) by scouring the Internet Archive for missing content. And then uploading it here. --Rachel Mae (talk) 05:16, 17 January 2023 (UTC)

Super Mario Bros. versions

How come mentions of the multi-game carts and Virtual Console were removed. Aren't those are applicable to the base SMB page? --Hiccup (talk) 10:54, 20 March 2023 (UTC)

As I said in the edit summary, there are currently no documented differences in the multicart and VC ROMs, so it's kind of pointless to list them as "revisional differences." --Rachel Mae (talk) 07:19, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
If they are undocumented, then they should be documented, right? VC sometimes has runtime patches too. But I'll just put something on the talk page for now. --Hiccup (talk) 15:17, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

Pre-release screenshots

Hello, I started writing a page on Asterix & Obelix XXL and I'd like to add some pre-release screenshots, which are .jpg. The sad thing, as is most common with these things, finding the original .png is next to impossible, is there an exception for these cases or the extention rules apply regardless? Also if so, do you know a way to convert them in .png and upload them here? Thanks in advance. OverFloyd (talk) 15:45, 27 May 2023 (UTC)

The rules are different for prerelease materials because clean PNGs are rarely available. Just upload the JPEGs, do not convert them to PNG as that will do nothing but waste space. --Rachel Mae (talk) 03:27, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
Yeh I did found out about prerelease material rules later, thank you :^) OverFloyd (talk) 09:39, 28 May 2023 (UTC)

Yume Nikki Featured Articles / EN Translation Articles.

Hello Rachel, there is 2 things I would like to bring to your attention.

1. Translations of Yume Nikki article still being featured.
The Spanish and Chinese versions of Yume Nikki are still featured articles, even though the main page in English is now considered a good article. Is it possible for one of the admins to fix this and make them good articles? Now alternatively the main English article could be made featured again but eh whatever I thought it was important to bring this up.

2. Weird /EN, Translation Article Thing
I've noticed that some people on this wiki make translations of articles with /en in the title, but there's kind of an issue; nothing can get done on these. Trying to translate them leads to nowhere and they can't be edited by regular users (I assume they can't), also not mentioning they're just a complete waste of wiki space. Here's an example of what I'm discussing:

Here's the prerelease page for Doom and here's a copy of it with /en in the title with less content than the regular page. Rather annoyingly, one of the winners of an Unimportant Award was a /en article of SM64's unused textures subpage (seen here.)

There are way more examples I could bring up, but you probably get the picture. So, can the admins delete these unnecessary articles from the wiki please?

That's all, hope this wasn't too confusing to read. --Mantis (talk) 02:38, 3 December 2023 (UTC)

Possible edit war in The Thousand Year Door's Regional Differences subpage?

So ever since 2023, the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door/Regional Differences page has seen several edits/undone edits to the section on Vivian's gender identity (more specifically, whether or not she qualifies as a transgender woman). The editing has gotten so bad that there are two topics on the subpage's talk page discussing this regional difference. As someone who's seen flame wars erupt on other websites because of this exact topic, I'm really concerned that this might ignite into one if it's left unchecked.

If this isn't the first time that someone has notified the wiki admins about this, then I apologize for repeating this. The Only Bomb With A 401k...BigBakudan. (talk) 12:57, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

Reverting massive page move

Yesterday, a user moved Crash Bandicoot (and all of its subpages) to Crash Bandicoot (PlayStation) in favor of a useless disambiguation with no prior discussion with any admin or user and as far as I can see almost all of their (quite few) edits on the Crash pages have been reverted over the years. I would have liked to revert this massive page move, but I don't seem to be able to due to name conflicts, or whatever. The reason I would have given is: "Disambiguation pages are unnecessary when the only other thing is the series itself. TCRF does not focus on serieses, and every single first game would need to be disambiguated the same way if this were the case. Furthermore, (PlayStation) implies non-PlayStation versions which isn't the case here." Is it possible for an admin to revert this? Thanks. I tried doing it myself for a bit but I think it's just messed up now sorry. -- ManDude (talk) 12:54, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

Adding the console name to the title is okay because there's another Crash Bandicoot game for mobile that uses the same name, so at one point or another, that was going to happen. As for the desambig page, if the rules state that, then just blank it and mark it for deletion with

There is no mobile game called "Crash Bandicoot," though? And no, there is no rule which even mentions disambiguation pages as far as I know. So I have no protocol to follow for now. -- ManDude (talk) 14:30, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
Next time, please just let staff handle this instead of trying to fix it yourselves. I had to manually delete more redirects and move more pages than I otherwise would have thanks to all the (disambiguation) pages. --Rachel Mae (talk) 21:51, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

Username change and user deletion request

If it is possible, can you or another admin do the following:

  • Change my username to “kooper”, since I use this username everywhere else.
  • Delete the “Tenclouds” account. This was an alt account which I created I think a year after this account (for reasons I cannot recall). I do not need another account and would rather have that one removed.

I hope this is not a major burden.

How do signatures work again? (talk) 21:36, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

Am I On Thin Ice?

Um. Hey...

This is gonna sound extra-paranoid, but I noticed someone I've been interacting with got hit with a "mandatory vacation" for a bit. This got me thinking... am I on thin ice with the staff, too? I know I can be a little confrontational in Talk pages, but I try not to be an outright jerk. Still, I thought I'd ask about this before something happened -- if there have been talks, I mean -- and moreover, ask what I can do to correct any problems I may have been responsible for. I kinda like being here, ya know? (,:

Again, sorry for the paranoid message. Thank you for your time!

If nobody's warned you about your behavior, you're probably fine. The user in question has a history of poor interactions with both users and staff and has been warned before. --Rachel Mae (talk) 03:11, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
Ah, okay. Thank you and have a great day!

Re: Issues with User

Hello, hope you are well. I am having an issue with a user named FrancoAguila123 where three times in the last few months, he reverts edits I've made where I add the title in bold and italics as per TCRF rules. One edit I made today on Street Fighter III: New Generation where I did just that and rewrote the intro to read a little bit better while still having the same content in it. He reverted it with the comment, "You did not contribute anything here, some words in the intro were changed but they're so minor that it still says the same thing overall, so why do this?" and I reverted it back and he reverted it again. I don't want to start a edit war with someone and make trouble here, so I'm wondering if you can weigh in on whether my contribution was needed because now he's made me feel like I did something wrong. Sorry for the mess, but I love contributing here and I don't want to have issues. Thanks in advance. Zidane4028 (talk) 18:40, 5 September 2024 (UTC)

AFAIK the rules don't state that a page intro must have the game title, but I saw no real issues with the changes you made. I left a note on the user's talk page. --Rachel Mae (talk) 00:41, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it. Zidane4028 (talk) 04:31, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

Cartoon Network Soundboard

Hi, so I just accidentally just created this article before I noticed the game was published on Newgrounds, not CN's website. I guess that technically makes it a fan game, so I think I was supposed to get permission first. Just wanted to let an admin know in case it needs to be removed. — The Only Zac (talkcontribs) 05:24, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

Username Change

Hi, I was wondering if I'd be able to change my username to DaxKatter? Thanks! Daxternator 2117 (talk) 05:17, 23 November 2024 (UTC)

Dispute with user

Hello, I wondered if you could please assist with this matter? I seem to now be involved in a dispute with User:FrancoAguila123 over Red Dead Redemption 2 and its subpages. I edited the Text subpage to add something that I didn't realise was already on there. The page is laid out rather confusingly with tons of collapsed tables, so it was an honest mistake on my part, and I have no problem with the edit being reverted. However, FrancoAguila was quite rude to me in their edit summary reverting the edit. I also reinstated various subpage links that they removed from the main article, as the pages are currently orphaned. They have simply reverted this with "No." and immediately slapped deletion requests on all of these subpages proclaiming them as "Garbage" and "page is a copy-paste of Red Dead Wiki and it lists information that is already documented in other pages".

While I don't disagree that this is the case for some of the newer subpages, I feel that these requests have not been made in good faith. The Locations subpage, for example, is entirely original content for TCRF that is not covered on other pages. A user did come along at some point to paste in text copied over from Red Dead Wiki, but I have since removed it and added new content to that page. A similar thing happened with the Characters and Items subpages, though I haven't had a chance to clean those up yet. In my opinion, these particular pages can certainly be fixed, and none of these subpages should be unlinked/orphaned until they can be resolved one way or the other (otherwise, there's no opportunity for anyone to do so).

I don't want to cause an edit war, so please can you weigh in on this? And please can you also speak to this user about their general conduct when communicating with other users? Looking at their contributions, they seem to have a history of passive-aggressive or rude edit summaries deriding other users' contributions. --Dorsal Axe (talk) 10:48, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

Feedback?
