Demo Screen
The US version of the game contains 4 images of a demo title screen although it is really the same 2 images repeated twice. The two images are presented below.
US Demo Title Screen | EU Demo Title Screen |
---|---|
The only difference between the demo and the final title screens, with respect to each region, is that the word demo was added. What is interesting to note is that, while Europe had an eShop demo of VLR released to them that uses the right logo, an eShop demo of VLR was never released in the US. Thus the left logo remains totally unused in any 3DS version of the game. It appears that the US eShop demo was in the works but it was put on hold indefinitely for ambiguous reasons.
AB Results
This texture is simply called dummy with a 6 in the top left corner and a 0 in the bottom right. It is a part of other textures used to display the results after an AB game. There are a few interesting things to note about it.
- The numbers appear atop to what would be the background to the results board. In the final game, numbers and the results board are separate textures.
- The palette for the results board in this texture is a tad different than the final board.
Bomb 00
The bomb between the AB rooms. Each region of the game has this image but never use it. Could have been used anytime the bombs were planted.
Image Placeholder
k40_10_00_1.png |
---|
Literally a placeholder image in the JP version that goes unused and doesn't exist in any other regions of the game. Judging from what images are around it, it probably would have been a picture of a plot important items such such as Axelavir, Key Cards, Phi's Brooch and so forth.
Security Room Monitor

Another image that exists in every region of the game but used nowhere. It should be used right after the third escape in Luna's route.
Dio and Bench
S48_15_00_0.png |
---|
There are a number of things to mention about this picture:
- Dio is knocked out and "in the void" with a bench behind him. It doesn't really match any settings that are in the final game exactly.
- The closest setting used in the final game that matches this unused picture is when he's knocked out and handcuffed to the sink in the Infirmary.
- The bench is some black grayish color. Its style doesn't match anything seen in the final game.
Given the above, it's clear it's an early placeholder. Examining the filename of the image gives a hint of where it could have been used. Apparently, this was intended to be loaded right before the ending of Phi's route while in the B. Garden. There are 2 benches in the B. Garden. If this placeholder was polished up, it would have fit well at one of them. In the final game, all characters except for Dio are present when this image was intended to be loaded. This implicates that the story line was changed.
Dice Puzzle Archive
Early Archive Images | Final Archive Image |
---|---|
Exclusive to the Japanese version of the game are these three images above (left column). They are early versions of archive pictures used to help solve the puzzle layout found in Room Q. In the final game, the player is to combine all three images to get the dice placement required to solve the puzzle. Here is what is different:
- There are only 5 dice in the early versions whereas the final versions (right column) has 6 dice.
- Each early version contains 3 or 1 dice whereas the final version contains pairs of the same colored dice.
- These early versions are taken from the top-down whereas the final versions are taken at an isometric point of view. The placement of the dice matters in this puzzle. The final images of the board look exactly as they do in the minigame so the change may have been done to help emphasize the exact placement of the dice.
- There is a rectangular border around the board of the early images. Before the minigame loads, it can be seen that the dice puzzle is placed on top of a rectangular table and the player stands in front of the longer side of the table. Two of the images are horizontally wide while one is vertically tall. It may have been intended for the player to take into consideration the orientation of the tables when combining all three images which would lead to a different puzzle solution than the final.
- If all early 3 images are combined (disregarding orientation) and all 3 final images are combined then the puzzle solutions look almost the same. It's just that the early solution lacks a blue die on the bottom.
The Kanji 仮 that is stamped three times in red on all three images translates to English as temporary. The Kana in the bottom left of all three images, アーカイブ, translates to archive which makes perfect sense because these are found with other archive pictures to help the player solve puzzles. The fiBOOKX in each image is the internal name of each file image. The fi is most likely a reference to these images being obtained in the final escape room. The C,D and I appear to just be version indicators. The final images are labeled with a 1,2 and 3 instead of letters.
Unused Event CG

A still-image version of the B. Garden scene in Phi's ending can be found with other event CGs. In-game a movie is used instead, and this version appears to show Akane holding a placeholder object.
