World of Illusion is the third game in Sega's Illusion series. Notable for having three unique sections in each round depending on whether you're Mickey, Donald, or playing in a two-player co-op game.

Unused Area

A small chunk of the first area of Round 2-M (to the right of the cavern entrance) is unused. This section was used in the prototype before ultimately being discarded.

Graphics Address Comments
WOITempPicture.png
0x02F656 A just-in-case placeholder image that would be used for unfinished picture book cutscenes.
WOICharacterSelect.png 0x0A911C Text for a Character Select that uses the same font style as the Password and Continue options in the Game Over screen.
WOIKingFrame.gif WOIKingFrame2.png 0x0BA160 Graphics for an unused enemy, the King of Hearts carrying his head around in a picture frame. This is loaded in the intro section of Round 5-M, which has no enemies whatsoever.
WOIRound2MSmallRock.png
0x0BAB02 A smaller version of the rolling rocks found in Round 2-M. These might have been used in the crushing ceiling section of that round.
WOISpadeSoldierThrow.gifWOISpadeSoldierProj.png 0x0BDF94 An alternate Spade-suited version of the Heart card enemies. This is used just once in the prototype, but is completely unused in the final version.
WOIMagicLabel.png
0x0D9174 A button label for a "Magic" action. This was used in the prototype, but it's replaced by a more useful "Run" button in the final game.
WOIMickeyHitExtraF.png

Mickey's hurt animation is five frames long, but only three frames are used in the final game.

Maybe these frames weren't used because of how goofy they look? That's lower case 'g' goofy, by the way.

The Round 3 boss, Glut, is below the floorboards most of the time, so his bottom half is hidden from view.

Unused Text

All four magic spells have earlier texts in the ROM. These earlier drafts use the in-level dialogue tileset, and as such are in all-caps.

Regional Differences

International Japan
WorldOfIllusion-Layout.png WorldOfIllusion-JapanLayout.png

The layout for the first candy level was changed in the Japanese version, with the most noticeable change being the additional wafer platforms in place of the much easier cake platforms. The circular biscuits don't drop in the Japanese version, but in the International version they drop shortly after Mickey touches them.
