A demo of Yo-kai Watch was originally released on July 3, 2013 on the Nintendo eShop, over a week before the official release, and in 2015/2016 for overseas territories. Though it may seem uninteresting at first, some elements of the Japanese build date back to some earlier builds.

Demo Lockouts

  • Only a small portion of Uptown Springdale can be explored, rendering some buildings out of reach.
  • Yo-kai cannot be befriended.
  • Dismarelda cannot be beaten, no matter how strong the player's Yo-kai Friends are. Managing to get her HP down to 0 through grinding will show her as invincible.

  • Possibly the most interesting tutorial image from the batch; Jibanyan uses his old model dating back to October 2012 prerelease versions of the game, as shown by the ivory colour scheme and the stuck-together twin tails.

Strangely, the map of Uptown Springdale matches the style of the early 2013 builds, despite the final map graphic being present.

Uptown Springdale Night

A completely unused and earlier map of Uptown Springdale at night, which almost matches that of the layout seen at the World Hobby Fair Winter '13 build! Some more interesting differences can be found:

  • The overall map seems to be unfinished, if not tailored for the demo.
  • Sidewalks didn't seem to be mapped.
  • There's only one entrance that leads to another district, likely being the early Breezy Hills location seen in 2012 prerelease.
  • Springdale Elementary School isn't present, instead being replaced by some houses.
  • Bear's House is present at the bottom-left corner; it would later be moved to Blossom Heights.
  • The Piggleston Bank was on the left side rather than on the right side.
  • There is no flower shop.
  • There are no apartments, parking lot, or riverbank view.
  • There are two main roads at the bottom, one of them leading to a dead end and a bend to the main left road.
  • Jungle Hunter wasn't present.
