See, this is why server preservation is important.
This game/console's online features are no longer supported.
While this game/console's online features were once accessible, they are (as of April 8, 2024) no longer officially supported and online-exclusive features may be documented as now-unseen content.
Hmmm...
To do:
A handful of stuff to do;
  • Look at the Japanese version's files for any more curiosities.
  • Check for any more unused graphics.
  • Redo some model renders in Blender via .dae files.
  • Compile a list of internal completion dates for YW1 locations and text scripts.
  • Unused sounds
    • is sleep_long unused?
  • Map e100g099 was added to the international versions. Check it out.
  • There's still more regional differences to cover, even between the American/Australian and European versions.
  • French and Spanish regional differences
  • Unused "night" or "daytime" versions of battle backgrounds.
  • Unused walking/running animations for Nate/Katie's parents and Bear/Eddie.

Yo-kai Watch is Level-5's spiritual take on the monster-collecting genre, with a detailed open-world consisting of unique districts and everyday life elements. Though it hasn't aged well in several ways, it still fared enough to pave way for a much more superior sequel and eventually a localization, complete with a catchy opening theme from Jeff "Swampy" Marsh and Danny Jacob.

Unused Audio

Hmmm...
To do:
Check for more in ywsound.bscar.
  • ywsounden.bscar has new audio added in international versions

Unused Music

M00_MUON

An audio file containing 12 seconds of silence, hence what the name in Japanese (無音 muon) means.

M18_jitensya_a3

A duplicate of Time for a Bike Ride!, where it sounds identical to the used theme (M18_jitsensya_a5) except with slightly lower FLAC.

Unused Sounds

Hmmm...
To do:
Are any of these used in multiplayer?

title_call_en

An alternate version of the title name drop (used at the Character selection screen) without the sound effect at the beginning, only found in the American version and doesn't have other-language equivalents. It is used in the intro, but mixed in with the intro audiofile. Strangely according to the localization file-naming scheme, there's no Japanese equivalent of this file.

sr0012_32728

Unused ambience sound of a clock ticking. Likely intended for Timers & More?

tr0014.dspadpcm

The audience cheering sounds separated from two jingles. It would be used in later games, starting with Yo-kai Watch 2 when winning a good prize on the Triangle Lottery, for example.

tr0015.dspadpcm

tw0025.dspadpcm

Unused failure jingle?

Unused Locations

Yo-kai Watch 2 Locations

There are a total of four unused maps consisting of locations that would appear in Yo-kai Watch 2. None of them have corresponding minimaps.

Chloro-Phil Good (t103i35)

A store where you can buy medicine. Everything looks identical to the counterpart in Yo-kai Watch 2 except for the lighting.

Fortune Hospital 2F (t104i30)

Though the stairway is blocked by a sign, there is an unused second floor for this location. The whole interior is finished, looking identical to the counterpart that would appear in Yo-kai Watch 2.

Toys iZ We (t105i29)

The most unfinished map out of the four, where it has incomplete models and placeholder textures.

Sushi Springdale (t105i37)

A cut sushi restaurant location that would later appear in Yo-kai Watch 2, looking identical. Strangely, there is concept art for the location documented.

Empty Maps

t104i35

An empty map with just a black square in the center. According to the "i" and "4" in the filename, it likely a leftover of a scrapped interior originally intended to appear in Downtown Springdale, coming after all the other locations except for the Springdale Business Tower and Springdale Central Station internally.

From Yo-kai Watch 2, this spot would be occupied by Café Shanista, which appears as a building as an exterior in the previous game, albeit unnamed.

t201g00

An empty map, where according to the leaked message.txt file in the mobile port, was actually intended to be the Yo-kai World as an overworld map. From Yo-kai Watch 2, that spot is occupied by Old Springdale, with a similar file-naming scheme (ex. t2_____).

template

An almost empty folder, just with a file called "template_mapenv.bin"
